Iran President: Peace to All ... Except U.S. and Israel

Iranian President Mahmud Ahmadinejad said Monday that his nation wants peaceful relations with all countries – except the U.S. and Israel.

Addressing an annual gathering of Iranian ambassadors to other countries, Ahmadinejad "stressed that optimal expansion of relations in all areas with various countries is the unalterable principle of the Islamic Republic’s foreign policy,” the Tehran Times reports.

"But the Great Satan (the United States), as long as it keeps its current identity, and the illegitimate occupying regime of Israel are exceptions, he added.”

The president told the gathering: "We are absolutely not seeking tension, rather we want global peace and calm.”

 He described Iranian ambassadors as the guardians of peace, justice, spirituality, and dignity "for the whole humanity,” according to the Iranian paper.

While defending Iran’s right to develop nuclear technology, Ahmadinejad said the country was opposed to the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction on religious grounds, saying they "create tension and hostility among nations.”

This is the same Mahmud Ahmadinejad who has said that Israel should be "wiped off the map.”

And in his latest speech, he insisted that peace and calm would never be achieved in the Middle East, the Tehran Times reports, "as long as the Zionist regime exists.”
