LASHAN HARA

Death and life are in the power of the tongue.
He who keeps his mouth and his tongue
keeps his soul from trouble.

A talebearer reveals secrets,
his words are as wounds which go down
into the innermost parts of the belly.
His tongue plans destruction like a sharp razor,
working deceitfully; with flattering lips
and a double heart does he speak.
He whets his tongue like a sword
and bends his bow to shoot his arrows; bitter words, lies.
He shoots in secret and encourages himself in evil matters.
He communes of laying snares, privately, for he says,
“who shall see me?”

Is there iniquity in my tongue?
Cannot my taste discern perverse things?

Look well to the ways of your household
and eat not the bread of idleness.
O thou deceitful tongue!
Learn not to be idle, wandering from house to house,
becoming tattlers, busybodies,
and speaking things you ought not.
For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks!
By your words you shall be justified,
and by your words you shall be condemned.
Speak not evil, one of another.

Bridle your tongue!
Open your mouth with wisdom
and on your tongue, the law of kindness.
Be swift to hear, slow to speak
and slow to wrath.

We put bits in the horses’ mouths that they may obey us;
and we turn about their whole body.
Also the ships, which though they be so great
and are driven of fierce winds,
yet are they turned about with a very small helm.
Even so the tongue is a little member.
If any offend not in word, the same is perfect
and able to bridle the whole body.

For every kind of beasts, birds,
serpents and of things in the sea
is tamed and has been tamed of mankind.
But the tongue can no man tame;
it is a fire full of deadly poison, an unruly evil,
and a world of iniquity.

If you love life and will see good days,
refrain your tongue from evil
and you lips that they speak no guile.

Speak in tongues often as they are mysteries directly to God.

You can only speak in tongues if you have that gift, and not everybody has it.

Mr5020,
If you have the true Holy Ghost you got it by speaking in tongues. The GIFT you are referring to is different from the tongues you speak to recieve the Holy Ghost and EVERYONE who say that they are saved should have spoken in tongues as like the day of Pentecost. You cannot be save without the evidence of speaking in other tongues as the spirit of God give the utterance and having the Baptism in Jesus' Name(Acts 4:12)
Peace Be Unto You,

Good questions- not everyone does, but can everyone do so?

As a personal prayer language, tongues seem to be different from the gift of the Holy Spirit used in services.

The personal one edifies as in building ourselves up in our most holy faith and speaking mysteries to God.

Apostolicista,
Can you point me to the Scripture that says that you are not saved unless you speak in tongues?

I will show you where you need the Holy Ghost speaking in tongues.
Acts 2:4 and they were filled with the Holy Ghost and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them the utterance.
Acts 10: 44, 46 While Peter yet spake thesewords, the Holy Ghost fell on all them which heard the word. For they heard them speak with tongues, and magnify God.
Acts 19:6 And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied.
Also Mark 16: 16, 17 He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved   : but he that believeth not shall be damned. And these signs shall follow them that believe: In my name shall they cast out devil; they shall speak with new tongues:

That shows that you must be a believer to have the gift of tongues, and that this is a spritual gift, but it isnt necessary part of salvation.

Suzie,

That is the point I was trying to make.... There is a gift of tongues, though I must say I have seen it used badly by many people..... Speaking gibberish that is no known  language, and no interperter in sight!  Just for show...
I do believe there is a prayer language and that the Holy Spirit will speak for you when you are in such distress you don't even know what to pray, but I don't believe you are not saved if you do not speak in tongues.... the only criteria for that is to believe in the Lord Jesus Christ as your personal Savior, and live for Him...... Thanks, Joy

I agree with you joyunending.  Paul spent time correcting those who were using the gift of tongues badly just as you said. But the gift is only one of the spiritual gifts.
