ebia,

Heb 8:1-13 9:1-18, is what I meant to type, herein.
Ok.  I guessed the 8:1-13.  I didn't guess the part from Ch 9.

A shadow is not the real think, clearly.  But it is an impression of the real thing - projected into two dimensions.
So while it is hugely lacking, it isn't actually wrong, just a very imperfect vision that contains something of the original of which it is a shadow.

ebia,

There you go..

That which was the shadow was abolished (the entire Levitical Mosaic system of worship) in Jesus.

This includes holy oil.

If you need to use oil for anything, any brand will do.

Believe it.

So this brings us to the point of why I brought this up in the first place.

Scientifically speaking, not just any oil will do. Essential oils do have a lot of healing capabilites both physically and emotionally. It is proven.

Since God created the plants in the first place, gave a recipe for a blend of oils in the second place wouldn't it make since to use these oils for when elders call on the sick and pray over them?

naomiball,

The answer is found in the same passage of scripture you brought up, at James 5:15.

James 5
14  Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord:
15  And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him.

Religious people, with active imaginations go to extremes, imediately upon reading such a pssage of scripture they will say to themselves, of praise God for Holy Oil, that can heal; but there is NO basis for this thought at all one can draw from these verses.

Notice the it is the "prayer oif faith" that produces what God will do, and does.  The oil doesn't do anything, it simply is used and is representative of Spirit of God, annoiting is done with the hands of Gods representatives (the elders).

The prayer spoken of is the prayer of he whom is sick, as well as those who pray for healing.

To much is made of this so that in siome churches, there is this teaching established by volumes of writings directing this as a certain sacred rite or sacrament.

So that the end result is that  oil, is the focus instead of faith in God..

God Bless as you read the Word.
