Well, I just checked Tim Vaughan.  Click on his name in the member list, and then you can bring up his posts from there,  his nature photos should be among his regular posts there, I think.  They are quite interesting.

Yes, I'm sure it seems like yesterday.  I've lost several in my family over the last few years; 'seems like they're still here, in the next room.  

So you live in city.  Is the grave near?  It looks like it's near.

It's a very neat looking, tidy grave yard.  And with a stone bench right there, I guess.  That's nice.  The grave yard I goe to doesn't have any benches around at all.  Kinda weird.  (I guess they're saying, "You're next, buddy, so don't worry about sitting down."  ).

 

Yes, I found some of Tim's work.  Wonderful!  And he's a beekeeper!  I grew up with bees and was a beekeeper as well and so was my father and his father!  

Yes, I live in a city of about 100,000 to the west of Toronto, Ontario.  It's a nice area of the province.  The cemetery is right in the middle of the city and is a huge one and a lovely place for going for walks and lots of places to sit.  Actually, Jack chose the spot about 4 months before he was promoted to Glory.  He said, "What a nice bench!  Either of us can come and sit there and meditate on God's word!"  Little did he know that I'd be doing that so soon.    He was very ill with complete kidney failure but we thought that he'd be able to stay on dialysis for several more years.

Hm.  Wow, complete kidney failure.  Hmmm.

Wow, from a family of beekeepers.  Huh. What a coincidence.  TimV doesn't post anymore, but it was sure interesting while he was here.

I guess the cemetary'll be too cold to visit much longer, huh.

Yes, Jack was a policeman in his early career and was told by his doctor when he had his medical, "Watch that blood pressure lad." but he didn't.  He felt fine.  And over the years, that high blood pressure was the cause of his kidney failure.  He was on dialysis for 3 1/2 years every other day in a city south of us and I was his cannulator (I did the needle insertion).  It sure was a labour of love on my part and we were a true partnership.

They keep the paths through the cemetery clear in the winter (actually Jack was buried in January) and Geordie loves the snow so we'll continue to go there for walks.

That's too bad that Tim doesn't post anymore.   It's nice to meet a fellow beekeeper.

Hmmm.  High blood pressure.  That's what got my dad.  But his was controlled medicinally for some years, before a stroke.  Then I helped take care of him for six years, and his left-side paralysis gradually worsened, with poorer and poorer circulation, when he died.  

High blood pressure really has its complications.

I remember reading of the author, James Michener, who wrote so many novels, was in his 90s, on dialysis, and had to go in every other day, I think.

I think Tim's email or web site is in one of his posts - or might be on his profile.  He might come back if someone here asked him. He's interesting to talk with and listen to.

I guess a January funeral for your husband Jack in Canada might be tricky.  I always imagine everything frozen.

Wow is all I have to say. Pat, I'm so very sorry for your loss. I have never lost anyone that close to me, so I can't say I understand, but you do have my sympathies and a shoulder if ever you need it. Also, for you to be that involved in his treatment says alot about who you are as a person and also about the depth and quality of your relationship with your husband. He truly was a lucky man.

Your photographs are beautiful. I think my favorite is of Geordi sitting on the bench remembering his Dad. That photo really has a lot of emotion behind it and I think you captured it beautifully.

My wife also is an amateur photgrapher. Although she hasn't really done any photography since our son was born. She does really good work. I'll try and get some pics on the comp so I can share them with all of you.

Yikes.  


I think I like your still lifes and landscapes.

I really like your Climbing the Fence.

But the others too.

I would love to work from those as an artist.  I do sometimes.

But a photo has to have a certain quality before I'll work from it.  First, obviously, permission(unless it's my own, of course).

Second, an interesting arrangement of shapes.

Darks and lights.

Contrasts.

But usually I like to work on-site.  Photos are helpful, but being there is the ticket.

Into the Heart of a Maple Tree is really nice, too.

Do you paint at all, patzt.  You'd have excellent material to work from there.  You have a very well trained eye.

But your photos are an art form in their own right.  Very beautiful work.

Thanks for your comments.  So nice to read.

No, I couldn't paint anything except the walls and the window frames.  LOL  Seriously, I have tried my hand at folk art but nothing else.  I love it though.  Jack did a lot of watercolor painting and some oils but definitely not me.

I do enjoy photography though....very much.  I liked that "Climbing the Fence" as well.  It just seemed like such a struggle and finally that vine made it!  

If you paint, I'd love to see some of your work.  I really would.

We have a couple of artists--one who is amazing--on my site and if you are interested in seeing any of her work, PM me and I'll give you a link to some of her work.  She has a digital camera and she takes photos of her work and posts the photos on my site.

I was just thinking if you ever decided to, with your existing photo background, you'd be right in line for a canvas, a few tubes of the right pigments, and a few brushes.  I think you'd be hooked.  You'd have your own scenes readymade.

Plus, you can exploit certain aspects of your photos. Like theHeart of a Maple Tree one above--those warms of the leaves, vs. the cools of the background, are a paradise for the impressionist painter.  And it's ready made.

I've wished I had more of a photo background, but I don't.

Of course, there's always the danger that if you did pick up a brush, you'd then see your camera differently.

I mean, sometimes the camera and the brush become competitive.  

Anyway, things never look the same once you become "an observer" --which is all an artist is.  And you have a good observer's eye.

Oh, boy, I wish you were correct.  I just can't even imagine me being a painter.  I'd sure love to learn though.

I gave you some links to one of the member's posts on CP and hopefully you found them alright.  She's off to Thailand in the morning and I'm sure that when she gets back, she'll have photos of her trip and will be painting some.
