The Holy Grail

This is just a fun poll, see what people think and why! I know the bible doesn’t say a thing about it, what are your thoughts, and why. I intentionally left “Don’t care” out because, lets be honest, no one really CARES what the Grail is made of, it is just a fun topic to talk about.

What is a holy grail??

So do I ask the same question. Is the holy grail the cup that Jesus drank from during what is refered to as the last supper? Did not the crusaders go in search of it? Wasn't there a movie or book called, "In Search of the Holy Grail"? Maybe it was a tv show.

So, what is a holy grail?

Ebie, Um... when did Mark come into this? They where at the house of man in the town (Some say it was Joseph of Arimathea). Seeing as this man was somewhat rich, it is logical that we would have cups made out of precious metals. And from how they approached him, it appears that knew who Jesus was, and seeing as he knew who Jesus was, or at least respected him as a teacher, it is logical he would use his best cups and bowls and plates.

It's frequently suggested that the last supper took place in the house of Mark's parents.  (The reasoning behind this escapes me at the moment).

Gold is too soft to use on its own on a regular basis (bear in mind, no-one except Christ new this was a particularly significant meal until afterwards), so we are presumably talking silver, pottery or wood. (no pewter or electro-plate yet).  Why do you think its a rich man's house - just from the idea that it's J of A's house?

I realise that JoA was rich, but he doesn't seem a very likely candidate to me - if it was JoA, why wasn't he named when his gift of a tomb was acknowledged?

(at least) one servant and a spare room implies a comfortable existance, but no necessarly great wealth.

I'm not so sure about this, either.  If he knew Jesus and his teachings, then he would be aware how much Jesus had said about giving your wealth away and feeding the poor, etc.  An ostentatious display of wealth would seem a bit "risky" and unlikely to go unremarked.

I never said he had “great wealth” just that he wasn’t the poorest man.

What did Jesus say about giving your wealth away and feeding the poor? Did he say it around the same time people where washing his feet with expensive perfume? How about the time Kings where giving him Gold and spice? You might want to e-mail Moses and let him know God doesn’t want an ostentatious display of wealth, because he is under the impresses God wanted the best of everything. Jesus does teach us to care for the poor, but the bible is full of examples of how God wants our best.

Very curious.  That part does sound so superstitious.  But it's real.

Sheesh

Its plastic marked 'made in china on' the underside. If you are carefull with it the silver paint wont come off for years.  It could be used to hold the "holy cloth" form the Oral Roberts days. Wow  what decoration for  a mantel  a scofield bible a RCC grail cup and a OR hanky!
