Disbelief Examples?

Jesus says in Luke 16:31,

"He said to him, 'If they do not hear Moses and the prophets, neither will they be convinced if some one should rise from the dead.'"  


What are some examples of disbelief you have witnessed lately, in others, or in yourself?


One I came across today was in the current issue of Biblical Archeaology Review magazine, in a letter to the editor:

"Now that the Israel Antiquities Authority has declared the James ossuary inscription a forgery, are you going to acknowledge your gullibility and that of so many others who apparently are so desperate to believe in the Bible that even patent forgeries are given credence and foisted upon a credulous audience of Christians and Jews?  I trust this experience has taught you a bit of humility and skepticisim for when the next con man shows up and tries to sell you the original invoice for the construction of the First Temple." (p. 10, BAR, Jany/Feby).

In conversations with unbelievers,they're usually guaranteed to say at some point "I don't believe in a hell", as if that will mean there is no hell!
That mentality is like a young rabbit leaving the buirrow for the first time and disregarding the warnings of other rabbits to beware the fox. "It's alright" he replies,"I don't believe in foxes,so I'll be alright!"

Any others, specific example, you've witnessed, of disbelief?  


I saw one, a few months ago.  A website review, of the old movie, "Greatest Story Ever Told", about Jesus.  Pretty faithful to the gospels.

The website, a movie review site for teens, said the movie "is a fairytale".  And that a better movie to watch wold be "The Last Temptation of Christ".

I sometimes look at PC "Occult/Pagan/Mysticism-type message boards out of curiosity and am struck by how the regulars all seem to enjoy clustering together in their unbelief and saying hello to each other with sugary expressions like "Love and light to you Derek xxx,May the goddess bless you Karen xxx, Greetings in the name of the River Sprites Louise xxx.." and so on,as if deep down they're scared because they've rejected Jesus,and take comfort and assurance from being in each others company!
Maybe theyl'll take comfort from each others company when they're all in hell,but i doubt it.

I was surprised to see on the British Open-Air Mission website that one evangelist couldn't help weeping for the lost souls of all the pre-Christmas shoppers who just kept walking by without listening to him.
I suppose I'm not as compassionate as him,because my attitude to unbelievers is somewhat harsher,and basically I couldn't care less if they choose to send themselves to hell,as its their own free choice.I could never weep for anybody who rejects Jesus.

Isa 1:18 Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.

Where would we be if others in our lives had not cared if we
chose to go to hell? It is a very interesting question is it not?

I am so glad that YHVH spoke to us in the verses above;

Does anybody know the difference between a sinner and a
saint?   There is only a small, but very vital difference...
A saint is a sinner saved by grace.  All us holier than thou
christians, who have forgotten where we were, and where
Yeshua has brought us from; need to remember that we were
once sinners; lost and on our way to hell.  The difference is
that we have been washed in the blood of the Lamb.

In the 28'th  chapter of Matt. Yeshua commisioned all of us to
tell others of the saving power of grace. Our job is to share
the good news of Jesus with all the love that is in our hearts:
God's job is to draw them in...No man cometh to the father
except the spirit draw him.

Many will tell us they don't believe in the bible--don't defend
the word just use it--Heb 4:12  In every instance that satan
tempted Jesus he replied with --- it is written.
Many will say they believe in God, but do not serve him--the
book of James says "thou believeth in one God thou doeth
well the demons believe and tremble. Others will say that they
do not believe in God. Psalms 14:1 tells us "the fool has said
in his heart there is no God"

And the saddest example of all is those who attend some sort
of religious organization, but have not made Jesus their one
and only King and Messiah. These are notable by such well
known statements as I go to church, I read my bible, I live a
good life ect..  Romans 10:13 tells us that they that call upon
the name of the Lord SHALL BE SAVED. there is no other
alternative.

I could never weep for anybody who rejects Jesus.

Then you don't understand the heart of Christ. All of us who are saved should be weeping for the lost, as the Lord Himself wept for Jerusalem (Matt.23:37-39).  Israel had rejected their Messiah and King, and would soon crucify Him. Yet the Lord could only weep for these Christ-rejecters, as must all who understand why Christ Jesus came into the world. It is too terrible to contemplate the eternal destiny of those who reject Christ, and we should not wish this on our worst enemies.

Yes,perhaps I'm too hard-hearted in finding it impossible to weep for the lost souls,but on the other hand there are plenty of verses that tell us to simply walk away from unbelievers and wash our hands of them,as listed in my forum post entitled "When should we say 'enough is enough?'"
So it seems a compromise might be the solution,I can feel sorry for the lost,but could never force myself to weep for them.

mick, in Gods time you will weap for the lost.  It will be when you are in the "intimate" place and you are permitted to feel His heart, His love for the lost and His pain, because so many have rejected His Son.  
I know I don't always feel "broken and contrite" (for myself and for others) before this Awesome God, but I know thats where I should be.  Because if it weren't for His Mercy I would never have even cared what He was feeling.  
My suggestion to you is to look into the eyes of the people you come in contact with and see the empty look of longing and sow a seed of hope in their lives, and watch what happens in the window of their soul.  No doubt, some will never trust in Him, and the empty look will remain, but when you see the change in the eye, almost a yearning eminating, you will be glad you were able to see the drawing touch of your wonderful Father.  Be a witness of the miracle of His mercy and grace, see it in action, and magnify His name.
Forgive my rambling.  I can barely express in a few  words what He desires for His Children to behold, now!
