1  Entertainment / Politics and Political Issues / Re:Should a christian vote? on: November 05, 2004, 07:36:42 PM
Thank you, I was beginning to fear that I'd actually have to do some research for myself on the subject. I knew it was right to vote, but scriptural evidence is always helpful. Take care.

The United States of America Constitution has been a practically dead letter in American politics. No more than lip service. The two of the things the founding fathers' feared most were a big beauracracy and a standing army. And now their fears have been fulfilled. Practically all the actions of our federal government have been unconstitutional, save those directly actions and powers directly granted to it. Just had to say that and reinforce the knowledge of how far we've drifted from the original plan for the states. Take care.

A pretty good band I heard once was "Courage Riley". I'm not sure if they're still around, but they were quite good. Take care.

KornRules,
Make sure you aren't worshipping KoRn. Just because you are praying for them doesn't mean you should fill your mind with their lyrics. Obsession with anything other than Christ is evil so be forewarned. Not that I am positive that you idolize KoRN, but your posts, name, and signatures are all pointing in that directiong. Take care and guard your mind.

6  Theology / Debate / Re:Touchy, Feely, Feel-Good Sermons on: October 25, 2004, 06:31:36 PM
Shylynne,
Perhaps you are right, but I have yet to find a sermon or message preached in the Bible simply directed at people's emotions. Because of that absence amidst the multiple sermons, I think that most other Biblical characters did not preach "snot and slobber" or sugar-coated sessions. Not everything has to have an exact verse though. If the mind (meant in this case as reason) is not addressed as well as the heart (meant in this case as emotions) and vice versa, then I should think that we are not speaking the truth for the word of God pierces all areas. Needless to say, we do not find the Bible saying purely emotional messages are wrong, but neither does it say they are good. In which case, I feel it more consistent with scripture to not have pure emotion messages than it is to have them. Of course, I am always eager to hear the wisdom of other people, and if there are verses that speak about this then please tell me. The danger seems that balance is always needed in messages and pure intellectual sermons could be just as bad as pure emotional ones. And yes I just saw 2nd Tim's post and I do agree with him, I was talking about snot and slobber and no hard truth. I think this all miscommunication in my posts, but hopefully I'll get it. Take care.

Quote

I never said that one couldn't be happy and be celibate. In fact, I know that unmarried people will be happier if they stay celibate.

However, God created sex for marriage.
I have serious doubts that He intended for any married couple to live a life of celibacy.

i agree with you for the most part, but if there is an exception it may be that mary and joseph are it. i understand the problem this creates especially in our day and age when it is common to have sex even before marriage, but the other end of it is that there is no history of mary actually having intercourse at all after the birth of jesus. in fact we find just the opposite in the early writings of christian leaders.

mike

Actually, I believe James (not the of the twelve) was the brother of Jesus. Also, Matthew 12:46 says," his mother and brothers stood outside, wanting to speak to him." Now you could say that it said brothers meaning friends, but then what would mother mean? It seems that in order for Jesus to have brothers, then Mary and Joseph must have had sex. I cannot see why anyone would seek to argue the virginity of Mary past Jesus' birth. Take care.

9  Theology / Debate / Re:Illegal Immigration on: October 22, 2004, 04:58:27 PM
Pastor Roger, I should have specified that I meant that the land border between Mexico and America could be sealed. Yes, of course they could just come from canada or on boat or whatever, but the closing of the border would atleast lower the number significantly. Take care.

10  Theology / Debate / Re:Illegal Immigration on: October 21, 2004, 08:28:47 PM
I believe the numbers per day of illegals caught crossing the border is 4,000 average. One border patrol officer who's been working it for around 30 years has said that it could be sealed and gave options, but the problem is that our Central Government does not wish to close the borders. Neither presidential canidate has addressed this issue. They both know what's going on however, which scares me because neither of them are truly looking out for our best interest. Such corruption is definitely scary in light of the fact that if our elected leaders who's only purpose is to protect us, aren't concerned, then we're heading into trouble. I sort of have gotten lost in my own thoughts, but I needed to vent that today. Learning the truth can often be depressing. If somebody wants, they can put this thread back on track haha. Take Care.

The musicians in KoRn are amazing. I try to avoid listening to them because of the dark aura surronding them, but I can appreciate good music when I hear it. Take care.

14  Entertainment / Music / Re:POD on: October 18, 2004, 10:53:19 PM
I haven't seen/heard anything to show that POD isn't completely for God. While their lyrics may not always be explicitly Christian, they need not be. Just because they change their style doesn't mean they did it to sell more records. If we are going to be concerned with rumors then we should remember that the old guitarist, Marcos was the name I believe, was asked to leave because he wasn't truly sold out to God. Vagueness or rather, non-blatantly christian songs should not be taken as evidence of lack of rightness with God. And even their recent CD's have great messages. Take care and always love.

Yes, I too am curious as to what Expose said that was faulty. I perhaps I'm reading to quickly or am too tired, but I'd still like to see BL give some good reasons. Take care.
