1  Fellowship / You name it!! / Re:Is it true that God will provide us our needs? on: November 15, 2003, 03:48:35 PM
Maybe we don't deserve to live in comfort at all, but I were to think that if that were also true then we don't deserve to live in pain either,

I mean how would it make sense that God let someone live and experience suffering all their life?

I say that if we don't deserve anything good, then we don't deserve anything bad either.
If we don't deserve to have food in our stomachs, we don't deserve to be hungry either.  if we don't deserve to have friends, then we don't deserve to be lonely.

living is a gift, yes,  but I don't think that living in pain is.
Afterall, why else would people contemplate suicide?
2  Fellowship / You name it!! / Is it true that God will provide us our needs? on: November 14, 2003, 09:22:25 PM
Is it true like it says in Matthew that God will "provide us our needs"?
Will he do so even if we are not seeking the kingdom first? or is seeking the kingdom first a requirement for him to give us our needs.

will he ever bless us with more than just our bare needs, if we put the kingdom first? Or do we have to go out and earn those riches on our own?

If God does provide everyone's bare needs, then how does that explain Christians in the world that die of starvation. I thought God fed every man just like he feeds the birds.

What qualifies as a basic need? Does God provide people with their friends? Of how high quality will those friendships be? Will He provide a college student with good Christian friends, "to hang out with" ?

How much does God expect for us to do on our own? it seems like sometimes he's like "worry not, I'll provide, just seek ye the kingdom" but that doesn't mean we're just supposed to slack off, and not work at making money, making friends, or anything, does it?
God expects us to do some work on our own, right?
But if that is so, then how much are we supposed to do on our own?

Does God consider a wife a need, will he provide us with a wife if we ask for one? Will God provide us with a beautiful wife on both the inside and the outside?

Is there any reason why sometimes God just gives us our bare needs, and wont just bless us richly, in every aspect of our lives?

Anyone wanna respond to all those questions? Smiley
3  Fellowship / You name it!! / Temptation, how does God aid us in fighting it? on: November 09, 2003, 06:47:13 PM
Okay, you all have probably heard the verse in 1st Corinthians:
Corinthians 10:13
"No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it."

So... what do you guys think this means?

Like do you think God uses this in order to help us with every day temptations, and provided you're wanting to do His will, do you think he guarantees away out on demand, every time? Or do you think it is more of a learning process, that you are not guaranteed to be free of your temptation right away?

any ideas?

any thoughts?
5  Fellowship / You name it!! / Marriage and how it has changed on: October 27, 2003, 10:47:17 PM
Back long ago in it seemed that marriage was more of a sporadic and less choosey thing.  Like that guys just sort of paired up with random wives, and that was that,

whereas now-adays we have an entirely different concept of how a marriage forms, where the individuals go through a friendship then a boyfriend/girlfriend relationship and then from there progress onto the marriage, basically a long process where the couple gets to know each other and make darn SURE that the other person is someone they wanna be spending the rest of their life with.

the girlfriend/boyfriend stage is never mentioned anywhere in the bible.  it seems like partners went from not knowing each other, to marriage, in a matter of a few hours.
It's like the relationship didn't exist and marriage was just a sporadic random pairing that occured?

i have 2 big questions:

1. why did it used to be like this?  why has this changed?

2. Do you think this change is for the better or the worse?  What do you think God's view is on the addition of a 'get to know you phase' where you actually get to choose your mate?
