1  Fellowship / You name it!! / Re: Pedophiles in Protestant churches! on: April 14, 2007, 11:19:00 PM
There is no "problem" with this in Catholic Churches as much as there was a problem with the Media taking a few examples and using them as propaganda.

I will wager there is an equal amount of deviants in any part of the church, and any non Christian Church. Pedophiles don't wear signs on them that say "Pedophile". People want to be able to pick them out, so the media turned Priests into that symbol people new to be wary of.

Frankly, you can't find them so easily. They are all over the place in society.
2  Welcome / About You! / Reverend is Only a Nickname. No Blasphemy intended. on: April 14, 2007, 11:07:43 PM
I was born into a lower class white family on the South Side of Chicago. My mother was a drug addict, absent for most of my life. My father worked two jobs just to pay off our debts... We had no heat in the winter, no electricity in the summer. Five Kids went through this.

I was raised Roman Catholic, but have since spend much of my time worshipping at a Unitarian Church (I am not a Unitarian. But the Unitarian Church has an inspirational social justice focused message. I consider myself to be nondenominational). I was about eighteen when I decided I would dedicate my life to helping others through my natural talents.

My God Given talents, of course, are my keen observational skills which help me out on a day to day basis.
3  Entertainment / Movies / Re: Praying for Hollywood on: April 14, 2007, 10:58:57 PM
Hollywood is pretty much garbage. There is always going to be bad movies. I hate people saying "sex sells", no that's just what they want you to think.

While it is true that lesser intellects might enjoy sex appeal (which is different from sex) most people enjoy movies of substance (albeit sometimes regardless of content.... People will ignore whatever kind of messed up content if the movie has a good story and is very thematic).

Sorry, I'm a filmmaker myself.  Therefore, I've studied trends in Filmmaking. The most popular movies (regardless of the moral content) are thematic and character driven... That's the important aspect of EVERY single film on IMDB's top 250...

If you want to fix Hollywood, you have to do it by making your own wholesome movies.

Of course, Hollywood is run by one thing: Dollar signs. That false idol that is money. I pray that they realize that money won't get them very fair, and they decide instead of trying to create and influence trends they simply make quality entertainment and follow moral guidelines instead of what sells....

Of course, this is how every industry is corrupted. Money turns otherwise good people into demons....

I'm not going to argue the moral implications here. But from a legal standpoint, they broke international copyright laws.... Seriously, what the did was commit a serious crime.

If I took any movie, re edited it, and sold it, what does that make me? A thief. These people who cut the content from movies are thieves. So, what's more important? The moral content of movies, or the commandment "Thou Shalt Not Steal."

I think it's hipocritical to claim there is some unjustice here. Regardless of the original content, which we cannot control, we cannot sit by and say "Yeah, it's perfectly alright to steal from the owners and remake and resell the same product." Are we criminals? I know I'm not.
