1  Entertainment / Poetry/Prose / The "Salvation" Army Volunteer on: December 25, 2006, 01:56:54 AM

 On the busy corner, there stands a man,
He rings his bell, and shakes folks' hands;
To take the time, in service there,
Is an indication--- how much he cares.
 While others of us go bustling by,
In and out of stores, still some gifts to buy,
He patiently smiles, with his bell in hand,
by the 'pot for funds' on the tripod stand.

With the honorable heart and dedication
Of the volunteers of that organization,
There's food and shelter--to be daily provided,
Among the needy, clothes and such, are divided
 May we take the time, and slow our pace,
This is Christmas time, it is not a race;
For the first name of "Army Band" IS "Salvation"
May we give all we can to assist our nation!

Yes! and the ENTIRE World!!

2  Entertainment / Poetry/Prose / Our Christmas Tree on: December 25, 2006, 01:53:07 AM
Last night I trimmed my Christmas tree-
(Well; Pete, and Dan, and Chrissy and Me).

I had mixed up some eggnog, as I always do,
And popped the traditional popcorn, too.

The tree on the table stood ready for lights,
So I put them on first as I sang "Silent Night".

The ornament boxes I opened with care,
For many years' memories rested in there.

I took out the red bows, remembering well,
The year that I made them with my sister, Nell.

I pulled out the stars that were knitted with care,
By a neighborhood lady we called our "Aunt Claire".

I lifted an ornament, shaped like a bell,
All it's glitter was gone, but I hung it as well.

A little toy train was the next one I found...
And remembered my brother's attempt at the sound.

A dozed glass bulbs, although scratched, were hung then,
But with two of them broken I could use only ten.

White dress; golden halo; and a smile on her face,
My Grandma's small angel, on top I then placed.

Down in the last box, wrapped so -carefully-
The Nativity Scene, to place 'neath the tree.

"Away in a Manger" I hummed to myself
As I put away boxes on my closet shelf.

Then I stood back to survey our beautiful tree;
Just the Parakeet, Puppy, My Kitten, and Me.
