Anyone in to Martial Arts of any kind? Bxoing, Wrestling, Karate, Judo, anything?
2447  Theology / Apologetics / Messianic Jews might be more helpful... on: May 25, 2003, 01:55:46 AM
I know little of Jewish law. Once, I was part of a Church in Washington, DC that shared a building with a Messianic Jewish Church. We did our thing on Sunday, they did theres on Saterday. Very different. I have to say, Matza bread (sp?) and melted butter in Wednesday nights make a good after-service snack. Grin It was interesting to go to such a Church, but I never learned much. They still follow much of the Old Jewish Ways, but with a Christian perspective. Hints the name, “Messianic Jews.”

I’d suggest to start there. Run a search on Messianic Jews, find an online forum. I fear we might just confuse you.  The average Christian knows just enough about Jewish Religion and Tradition so that the New Testament and some of the things Jesus said makes sense.

Don’t get me wrong, I don't want you to leave, you seem like a great, and rather intelligent person, but if you are looking for answers, I think this is the wrong place. See if you can find Messianic Jewish fourms and even see if you can go to a Messianic Jewish Synagogue in your area, maybe talk these things out face to face with the Priesthood there. If I learned one thing about going to that church, it is that we Christians don’t know nearly as much about the Jewish Traditions as we think we do. In fact, little know to many Christians, some of the things many Christians Sects do resemble your traditions in a way.

Glad to know I have helped you.

Blakceyepeas and I concur, you should to confront her. Have the pastor and/or the elders mediate. Be strong, you can do all things through Christ who gives you strength.  I normally try not to directly quote verse, but take notes of this:

Ephesians 6:10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. ‘

2 Timothy 2:1 You then, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus.

Paul is saying, be strong, God will give you when you need to be strong, just use it. Also, see 1 Corinthians Chapter 6. I don’t have time to look this up, but I think this passage talks about the Church judging dispute between believers. If someone protests you trying to confront her before the Leaders of the Church, tell them about what Paul says who the Church should settle these kinds of disputes.

And wait till the pastor comes back, you don’t want her to hear about this to soon, and give her a chance to regroup and plot against you more. Your going to have the think strategically, don’t do anything that could be misconstrued as an attack till you have a chance to work everything out with just you and the pastor.

Good luck and God bless.
2449  Entertainment / Music / New respect for Rap on: May 24, 2003, 04:06:36 PM
Finally, a Rapper who don’t rap about “Bust’n caps” and “Slap’n hoes”  These other rappers, they sit in their 5 million dollar Mansions, and say they live in the hood and they have to kill every day, making the young inner city children think they relate. It is a shame. Even mainstream Christian Rappers like T-Bone and ETW will sing about it. And then, John Rueben and Ill Harmonicy flat out avoid the issue. But now there is a rapper who will stand up for the truth! I heard him on “the Blaze” a serualer Hip-Hop station in my area. I was shocked by these lyrics, they made me feel… happy! I’m so used to Eminem and Ja Rul shouting anger and obscenities, but now There is one rapper, a Christian, who is trauly speaking words on encouragements, a “word in season to him who is weary” Nas is his name, and “I can” is the song. Listen to the lyrics:

Chorus
I know I can,
Be what I wanna be,
If I work hard at it,
I’ll be where I wanna be.

Repeat

Boys and girls listen up,
You can be anything in the world
In God we trust,
An architect, doctor, or maybe an actress,
But nothing comes easy, it takes much practice.
Like I met a women who was becoming a star,
She was very beautiful leaving people in awe
Singing songs, Lena Horne but a younger version,
Hung with the wrong person got her strung
Cocaine sniffing up drugs all in her nose,
Could have died so young,
Now looks ugly and old,
No fun coz now when she reaches for hugs,
People hold their breath coz she smells of corrosion and death,
Watch the company you keep and the crowd they bring,
Coz they came to do drugs and you came to sing.

So if you wanna’ be the best I’m tell you how,
Put your hands in the air and take a bow.

Chorus x 2

Boys and girls listen again,
This is for the grown looking girls who’s only ten,
The ones who watch videos and do what they see,
As cute as can be, up in the club with fake ID,
Careful before you meet a man with HIV,
You could host the TV like Oprah Winfrey,
Whatever you decide be careful some men be,
Rapists so act your age don’t pretend to be,
Older than you are give yourself time to grow,
You thinkin’ he can give you wealth,
But so young boys you can use a lot of help you know,
Thinkin’ life is all about smoking weed and ice,
You don’t wanna be my age and can’t read and write,
Beggin’ different women for a place to sleep at night,
Smart boys grow into men who do whatever they wish,
If you believe you can achieve then say it like this.
Chorus x 2

Before we came to this country,
We were kings and queens never porch monkeys,
There were empires in Africa called Kush,
Timbukto were every race came to get books,
To learn from black teachers who taught Greeks and Romans,
Asians, Arabs and gave them gold,
When gold was converted to money it all changed,
Money became the power for the Europeans,
The Persian military invaded they heard,
About the gold the teachings and everything sacred.
Africa was almost robbed naked,
Slavery was money so they began making slave ships,
Egypt was where Alexander the Great went,
He was shocked at the mountains with black faces,
Shot off the nose to impose what basically still goes on today you see,

If the truth is told the youth can grow,
Learn to survive till they take control,
Nobody said you had to be gangsta’s hoes,
Read more, learn more change the globe,
Ghetto children do your thing,
Hold your head up little man you’re a king,
Young princess when you get your wedding ring,
Your man will say she’s my Queen.

Chorus

And on top of that, he is a GOOD rapper. Not some ATF poser that shames all music, but a rap who can hold his own with the best of them! He raps about not using the Ghetto and excuse for not trying ,and to study in school, work hard and become great! He preaches about respecting women! And he does it is a good way. I hate these Christian evangelistic rappers who seem top be still such in the 80’s with there clothing, words, and rhythms, and are so pushing about God. But he isn’t like that! He mentions God, and give credit, but he isn't preachy or lame! Call your local radio stations, ask for “I can” by Nas!
2450  Entertainment / Television / Re:MTV contest on: May 24, 2003, 03:26:50 PM

Fish? lol, He doesn’t live in my town! BBQ is an Texan thing, not a Baptist thing, in this area! lol

Good story, thanks, I loved it.
2452  Theology / Apologetics / Re:"Female Pastors" Is there any such thing? on: May 24, 2003, 12:44:21 PM
I know. I wasn't referring to you. This woman was a gossip, plain and simple. What I'm wondering is why Paul though he needed to say she was a women. Many time, he doesn't even bother to menton who the person is, just the sin. But he said women from some reason...

No pot of that, we are focusing one one part of the Verse. What about "teach" the word before "usurp"? A women shall not teach a man. What is he referring to there?
2453  Prayer / General Discussion / Re:How I wish Jesus would come soon. on: May 24, 2003, 03:02:02 AM
I hate to see you (or anyone else for that matter) like this, Bro. I know this isn’t biblical, but this is a saying I have quoted that helped people who feel the way you do. It is the 11th chapter of the Tao Te Ching (as translated by Gia-Fu Feng and Jane English):

Thirty spokes share a wheels hub;
It is the center hole that makes is useful.
Shape clay into a Vessel;
It is the space within that makes is useful.
Cut doors and windows for a room;
It is the holes which make is useful.
Therefore profit comes from what is there:
Usefulness comes from what is not there.

Ponder this when you feel alone. Perhaps Jesus will speak to your through the silence of the Tao, as he has me.

I know. And the questions we will have… Heaven will not get boring fast. I still hope we do play sports. I know, I know, but God is the creator of all, and with so many humans having a desire to play sports, I wouldn’t be surpirsed if he has sports.
2455  Theology / Apologetics / Re:"Female Pastors" Is there any such thing? on: May 24, 2003, 02:33:11 AM
To add to what Suzie said, The problem with your argument, Broken, about using KJV, we are using a 21st century definition here. This is a 17th century book written in 17th century English. Now, they say England and America are 2 countries divided by a shared language. Imagine how different British England THEN, and American English now are!

I know that is a problem with using the KJV Smiley I was partly using it because I think Saved_4Ever prefers it - judging by the picture in his signature.
The language has changed, but I seriously doubt the word "usurp" has! It still means to take possession of unlawfully!

Good point.

If I say “That is tight” I mean that is cool, but in England ,if I say “That is tight” it would mean that is tight wadded, that is mean or cruel.

Actually, where I come from in England, "tight" means drunk Wink .

Really? What part are you from? This reference about Tight came from a Friend I know who lived near the Oxford Area. He lived in Africa for the first part of his life, maybe he got it from there. We both spent a whole weekend together says “tight this “ and “Tight that” lol, when he said “abortion was tight” I had a feeling we where using to different meanings… lol, good times, good times!

Quote
In many respects, you're right. There are a lot of occasions where the KJV is confusing to an argument due to the meanings of words having changed - and of course the difference between UK and American English. But, certainly in the UK, I don't think the word "usurp" has or had a different meaning to the one I quoted, and I doubt it is different in the US.

Yes, just ask and Shakespearian Actor or Rennie, they will tell you the same thing. Read Beowulf one day, no the original text… Hey, it is English, too, right? lol

If I say “That is tight” I mean that is cool, but in England ,if I say “That is tight” it would mean that is tight wadded, that is mean or cruel.

If I say you are mean, here in America, that make you a cruel person. If I said you where mean in English, it would mean you were not generous.

If I say I need a rubber in America, I mean protection, if say I need a rubber in English, it is an eraser for a pencil! THAT would be embarrassing!

In America, I ask “What are you doing ON the weekend?” in England, I ask “What a re you don’t AT the weekend?”

If I spilled milk, in America, I’d say “I spilled milk” in England, “I spilt milk”

If I’m in an restaurant in America, and ask for the police, I am being robs for something, but I ask for in in England, I am asking for the Check!

I can go ON and ON, the point it KJV was written in England centuries ago! Using a modern Dictionary isn’t going to do much good.
2457  Entertainment / Television / MTV contest on: May 23, 2003, 03:06:05 PM
I was wondering if there is anyone else in here who HATES MTV as much as I do. It is time for an I HATE MTV contest. Try and top this:

I hate MTV so much, I fall asleep watching TV, and dreamed nothing was on the TV but static. When I woke up, and MTV was on the tube, I was disappointed.
2458  Fellowship / You name it!! / Re:Will Christ return in our lifetime? on: May 23, 2003, 02:41:16 PM
lol, you forgot an one, Yes, No, and Don't care!  Grin

Seriously though, Death isn't the end, is it. The way I see it, we will be around for it either way! I mean, being in Earth, we think of Earth as the proverbial “center of the Universe” But really, Heaven is the hub of activity in the Universe! We will we be their when Christ come back, my friend, you don’t need ot worry about it! lol Wink
2459  Theology / Apologetics / Re:Why doesn't God show himself? on: May 22, 2003, 10:38:54 AM
GarColga- That is my point, exactly. Too many people maintain that Jesus lived, way to many for anyone to say he is a mythical character. Even people who disagreed maintain he lived. We asked for proof the bible is accurate, I gave it.

The rest of you, keep up the good work, nice posting.
2460  Entertainment / Movies / Re:Is anyone else offended by... on: May 21, 2003, 06:15:20 PM
I don't judge movie until after I see them. But it doesn't seem to be that offensive. No more offensive then say... disrupting the peace of the board by calling someone a pagan.
