GOD'S FRIDGE

If your mother didn't do it, maybe your grandma proudly displayed on her refrigerator your artwork from elementary school or Sunday school. It didn't matter if it wasn't "artistic." It was treasured because she loved you and you had done it for her.

Your undeveloped skills had not produced anything noteworthy to anyone else, but she saw the purpose of your heart and had the wisdom to understand that all you needed was time and practice to perfect your fledgling talent. Her pride and encouragement spurred you on.

We must not forget that God is like that. Of all the analogies for God, probably the doting parent is the best.

Don't get me wrong. God expects our best effort and He desires perfection. But His demand for perfection was met only once--by His firstborn Son. Because of Jesus' death, burial, and resurrection, God sees all believers through His Son's flawless performance and sacrifice. Our faulty, immature efforts to do what God requires all look beautiful to Him because we have claimed Jesus as our proxy--the one who stands in for us.

It's as though we do the skating, but the chief Judge sees only Jesus and gives us straight 10s. Isn't that about the best deal you can imagine? God sees Jesus' effort and gives us the gold medal!

So, we offer to our Father our schoolwork, our efforts on the job, our attempts to do what is right and good. And when we get to our heavenly home, we'll find those cherished efforts posted on God's fridge. Our artwork will look stunning in its beauty. We'll exclaim, "I did that?" And with a knowing glance toward Jesus, He'll reply, "Yes, My child. Well done!" --DO

REFLECTION:
* Do I do all my tasks as artwork to please the Lord?
* Have I accepted Jesus' sacrificial work on the cross for me so that God sees Jesus' accomplishments when He looks at mine?

- May God's grace surround you each day. -

Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman
that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the
word of truth. II Timothy 2:15

You may give without loving but you can't love without giving
