Governor of parched Georgia to pray for rain
Leader will host prayer service to ask for relief from Southeast drought

Nov. 7, 2007

ATLANTA - What to do when the rain won’t come? If you’re Georgia Gov. Sonny Perdue, you pray.

The governor will host a prayer service next week to ask for relief from the drought gripping the Southeast.

“The only solution is rain, and the only place we get that is from a higher power,” Perdue spokesman Bert Brantley said on Wednesday.

Perdue’s office has sent out invitations to leaders from several faiths for the service, set for Tuesday.

Perdue has several times mentioned the need for prayer — along with water conservation — as the state’s drought crisis has worsened. Over the summer, he participated in day of prayer for agriculture at a gathering of the Georgia Farm Bureau in Macon, Ga.

Perdue, a Baptist, has enjoyed strong support from Georgia’s Christian conservatives.

The Southeast has been suffering from an intense drought in recent months that has threatened supplies of drinking water. Georgia has been locked in a battle with Alabama and Florida over how much water should be sent downstream from the state’s dwindling reservoirs.

Governors from the three states reached a temporary agreement after meeting with Bush administration officials in Washington.

The prayer service will be held outside the state Capitol on Tuesday. Unless, of course, it rains.

“Then we’ll move it inside, thankfully,” Brantley said.

Amos 4:7-8 And also I have withholden the rain from you, when there were yet three months to the harvest: and I caused it to rain upon one city, and caused it not to rain upon another city: one piece was rained upon, and the piece whereupon it rained not withered. 8S o two or three cities wandered unto one city, to drink water; but they were not satisfied: yet have ye not returned unto me, saith the LORD.

I think every Christian in this nation needs to be praying for Georgia and for all the drought stricken areas of our world. I think we also need to follow the instructions of 2 Chronicles 7:14 If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.

I'm Sorry, but i cannot pray for that...
I prayed for this to happen a couple of years ago, just after the last elections:
Dry America up until she bends her knees and returns to you, Father!
I am a man that has the same passions as Elijah & others, That prayed that the rains would stop,
and they did for 3 years....
I also know that he will do what i ask of him, as long as it's within his WILL...
I do have a form(spiritual) of Godliness & I don't Deny the Power of GOD as many many people DO!

Repent America...

Littleboy and Dreamweaver:

Point well taken that God allows droughts in our life to bring us back to Him.  On the other hand, it is refreshing to see a man in a position of leadership step out in faith.

I'm not the kinda person that Prays for Rain & then Complain that we got too Much...

Gods Will, Will Be Done...
And If God wants GA. to have water, Then they will have water, If not, then NOT it is!
It's a HARDHEADED man that tries to BUMP heads with Gods Will...

From what i've read about you, you've allready bent your knees(repented) for/to him Sister,
We that Love him & does his will, have nothing to Fear...
The Lord will provide for those he knows.
For a long time now, He has been willing to look away from our Ignorance and Rain on Both the Good & Bad...
If i get my way this will End soon, Very soon!

Thank you for your encouraging words.  God is indeed my provider-in all things.

I am excited about Christ's return for myself, but have unsaved family members who have yet to receive Christ as their Lord and Savior.

Please pray for them.  Thank you and God Bless!

As Christians I think that we should be joining in with Georgia Gov. Sonny Perdue in praying for rain. Even though there may be those that would not accept the power of prayer in this as a viable solution there will be those that will see it and perhaps come to know our Lord and Saviour. We should also do this out of our love for all of mankind. I'm sorry but I cannot stand by and see even our enemies suffer without having compassion for them and asking the Lord to have mercy on them.

Hi Everyone,
I'm not trying to be mean about this ok?
But, God allready knows that Ga. needs water, People have been praying for it for a while Now...
And IF it's GODS WILL that GA. or Any other place in the World Not to have Rain, I'm not going to Bump Heads with God about it...
And,
I Wonder what the Godless will say when it don't Rain?
And how many people that Might turn away from Our God because of that?
You know as well as I do, IT'S time for America to Wake-up...
Theirs 1000's & 1000's of Chineese are becoming Christians under the threat of Persacution & Death,
100's maybe 1000's? of people in the Middleeast are turning to the Lord under the same threats Even Iraqi's & Iranians
are turning to him(JESUS)...

And then theirs US, Voting people into Office that are Homosexuals and promote that kind of Lifestyle,
Fornication, Murder & the Murder of Babies(Abortion), Pornography, ect. ect. ect.
Here, It's easier to just say this: EVERYTHING GOD tells a Nation NOT to be, WE have become....

Brother, I'm not calling you mean nor asking you to bump heads with God. If a drought is His will then it will be so no matter what we do or say. That is His right and righteously so. I am only saying that we should show mercy to those in need. We should not give even an indication of anything else such as the Westboro Baptist "church" is doing. Without charity we are nothing and this charity should reflect in our prayers as well as in our actions.

If a totally depraved sinner would come to our door starving, in desperate need and ask for food should we turn them away because they refuse to reject a life of sin and turn to Jesus? Or should we give them something to eat and more as well as to pray for them?
