THE FOUNDATION

“A universal peace, it is to be feared, is in the catalogue of events, which will never exist but in the imaginations of visionary philosophers, or in the breasts of benevolent enthusiasts.” —James Madison (1792)

FEATURED RIGHT ANALYSIS
The Latest Islamist Attack: 49 Dead in Orlando1

Memo to Obama: This is not a “gun problem.”

By Mark Alexander

Islamic cultures worldwide are as “tolerant” of homosexuals as they are of women, so it was no surprise to learn that the murder of 49 people and wounding of more than 50 others in a homosexual bar in Orlando Sunday was committed by a radical Islamist.

Omar Saddiqui Mateen was the son of Afghan immigrants. Born in New York, he was a divorced security guard prior to the assault. After the attack, his father posted a video message noting that his son should have refrained because “God himself will punish those involved in homosexuality.”

The FBI agent in charge, Ron Hopper, said the assailant bragged about “having ties to terrorist organizations.” He added in the most politically correct phrasing, “We do have suggestions that that individual may have leanings toward that particular ideology.” Now, what “particular ideology” that might be? Mateen was interviewed three times during two FBI investigations in 2013 and 2014. The assailant called 911 and swore allegiance to the leader of the Islamic State shortly after his initial assault. Peter King (R-NY), Chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee, confirmed the connections between Mateen and ISIL2, and the Islamic State claimed credit for inspiring the attack.

I have spent a few years consulting with counterterrorism analytical groups over the course of the last five presidential administrations. While the focus of those groups has always been the prevention of WMD attacks — and Obama’s Iran deal3 certainly ratchets up the potential of that threat vector — the most likely terrorist threats have always been low-tech.

As I wrote in “Islamic Jihad — Target USA4,” “The most likely near-term form of attack against civilians on our turf will be modeled after the conventional Islamist assaults in the Middle East — bombings and shootings, as we have now seen in Paris, London, Berlin, Brussels, Sydney, Toronto, Boston, New York and Washington. These attacks were low tech but effective in terms of instilling public fear.” Indeed, the 9/115 attacks started with box cutters, and subsequent attacks at Fort Hood, Boston, Chattanooga, San Bernardino and now, Orlando have all been low-tech.

Predictably, Barack Obama used the tragedy to pander and promote his “gun control” agenda. “We know enough to say that this was an act of terror and an act of hate,” declared Obama. But, he added, “We’ve reached no definitive judgment on the precise motivations of the killer.” Yet he certainly had reached a definitive judgment on the course of action: “The shooter was apparently armed with a handgun and a powerful assault rifle. This massacre is therefore a further reminder of how easy it is for someone to get their hands on a weapon that lets them shoot people in a school, or in a house of worship, or a movie theater, or in a nightclub. And we have to decide if that’s the kind of country we want to be. And to actively do nothing is a decision as well.”

The words “Muslim” and “Islam” never crossed his lips6. Fact is, Obama is the one “actively doing nothing” — about radical Islamic terror.

Hillary Clinton joined in, saying, “This was … an act of hate. The gunman attacked an LGBT nightclub during Pride Month. To the LGBT community: Please know that you have millions of allies across our country. I am one of them. … We need to keep guns like the ones used [in Orlando] out of the hands of terrorists or other violent criminals. This is the deadliest mass shooting in the history of the United States and it reminds us once more that weapons of war have no place on our streets.”

Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe, who just gave voting rights7 to murderers still in prison, tweeted, “Praying for victims, families & an end to senseless gun violence.”

The Leftmedia was no different. MSNBC’s Joy Reid declared, “Whether it’s a hate crime or whether it’s related to something related to international terrorism, we’re not getting to the core issue, which is how easy it is to get a gun.”

Memo to the Demo-gogues and MSM pundits: The assailant is a “murderer,” not a “gunman.” The attack occurred in a “gun free” zone. And if Obama could wave his executive “magic wand” and remove all firearms from the United States, may I remind you that Islamists worldwide have murdered far more civilians with simple bomb components. Recall that there were more than three times the number of casualties in the 1995 Oklahoma City bombing by a couple of deranged psychopaths, than in Orlando. That bomb was composed of readily available fertilizer and diesel fuel.

Again, this is not a “gun problem,” and for the record, tens of millions of innocent men women and children have been slaughtered once their means of self-defense was confiscated. See Stalin, Hitler, Mao, et al.

Oh, and if not blaming guns, leftists were also blaming Christians. ACLU staff attorney Chase Strangio8 (aptly named), declared, “The Chrisitan Right has introduced 200 anti-LGBT bills in the last six months and people blaming Islam for this. No.”

And a couple of footnotes: First, don’t buy any of the “lone wolf” rhetoric — Islamic terrorist assailants worldwide are tied to one ideology: Islam. Second, it is worth noting that an Islamist imam, who preached that it was merciful to murder homosexuals9, came to Orlando in April of this year. And a final note on Obama’s constituents — Mateen was a registered Democrat voter.

Our prayers are with the families of the dead and wounded.

TOP RIGHT HOOKS

Obama — The ‘Serious’ President10

In his appearance on “The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon” Thursday, Barack Obama put his eight years of “accomplishments” to song as he, Fallon and house band The Roots slow jammed the news11. Obama jammed, “In short, climate change is real, health care is affordable and love is love.” (That last one referencing the Supreme Court decision on same-sex marriage).

The skit wasn’t the first time — nor will it be the last — where Obama plugged for Hillary Clinton and used his bully pulpit to attack the Republican nominee. Fallon asked Obama during the skit, “Mr. President, since you’re here, I’ve got to ask you, have you been watching all the election coverage this week about Donald Trump?”

Obama replied, “No, but I have been watching my new favorite show, ‘Orange Is Not the New Black.’”

Just a month ago, Obama attacked Donald Trump by saying the reality TV personality is not fit for the job of commander in chief. “We are in serious times, and this is a really serious job,” Obama mused. “This is not entertainment. This is not a reality show. This is a contest for the presidency of the United States.”

Yet Obama has used the frivolity of pop culture to advance his agenda, from schmoozing with YouTube stars12 to prancing around the White House with a selfie stick13. These may be serious times, but Obama doesn’t see it as beneath him to engage in a little spectacle to reach the masses with his propaganda.

Clinton: Oh, That Classified Email14

It was April 2012. The president of Malawi had died, and the country’s first female president, Joyce Banda, assumed office. Hillary Clinton was about to pick up the phone and perform a bit of statecraft. The emails newly released15 by the State Department show Clinton’s aides scheduling the call, sending Clinton a memo to prepare for the conversation — and breaking the law by sending information marked classified through an unsecured channel.

As Fox News reports16, this email exchange in question contains “portion marking,” a system used by the government to mark certain passages in a document classified. The email was sent directly to Clinton, even though she repeatedly insisted that she never handled classified information over her private sever.

“© Purpose of Call: to offer condolences on the passing of President Mukharika and congratulate President Banda on her recent swearing in,” the email read. The “©” designated that the information was confidential. The rest of the email after the sentence was blocked out, too sensitive for public release.

Just last week, Clinton told Fox News' Bret Baier, “The fact is that nothing I sent or received was marked classified and nothing has been demonstrated to contradict that.” That “©” is pretty damning, and there are other emails that contain similar markings.

In January, Clinton insisted17, “I never sent or received any material marked ‘classified.’ I cannot control what the Republicans leak and what they are contending.” But the facts speak for themselves — no right-wing conspiracy.

Last year, Clinton swore18: “The facts are pretty clear: I did not send or receive anything that was classified at the time.” The facts, however, show that Clinton knowingly broke the law, and she lied about it. The only question now is if the Obama Department of “Justice” will move ahead and indict the presidential candidate after Barack Obama has endorsed her. Anyone want to place a bet?

Clinton’s Border Wall19

The Secret Service has almost finalized the plan for protecting Her Majesty Hillary Clinton’s nomination at the Democrat National Convention in Philadelphia in July. Secret Service plans on erecting feet upon feet of “no-scale fencing” in the City of Brotherly Love so that no one can sneak across the security perimeter and harm the politicians who are advocating for lax immigration policies. Oh, the irony.

Clinton will have rings upon rings of security surrounding her when she shows up in Philly to officially receive the Democrat coronation, er, nomination. Yet she’s a politician who has vowed to go above and beyond what Barack Obama has done, going so far as to increase the number of Syrian refugees entering this nation, shut down detention centers, and generally promote open borders. “Security is a necessity in this increasingly dangerous world,” Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-AL) said in a statement20. “Clinton and the DNC don’t hesitate to use walls and guns for protecting themselves and their elite friends. I say it’s time to provide such protection to the at-risk people like Kate Steinle, and Clinton not understanding this will lead to her defeat.” Meanwhile, this weekend has shown that Democrats' lax immigration policies only enable Islamic terrorism.

OPINION IN BRIEF

“So determined is the president to avoid the subject of Islamist, ISIS-inspired or ISIS-directed terrorism that he concluded his remarks with an astonishing insistence that ‘we need the strength and courage to change’ our attitudes toward the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender community. That’s just disgusting. There’s no other word for it. America’s national attitude toward LGBT people didn’t shoot up the Pulse nightclub. … An Islamist terrorist waging war against the United States killed and injured 103 people on our soil. We Americans do not bear collective responsibility for this attack. Quite the opposite.” —John Podheretz

SHORT CUTS

The Gipper: “For too long, the world was paralyzed by the argument that terrorism could not be stopped until the grievances of terrorists were addressed. The complicated and heartrending issues that perplex mankind are no excuse for violent, inhumane attacks, nor do they excuse not taking aggressive action against those who deliberately slaughter innocent people.”

Upright: “If you’re … more angry at your domestic political opponents than you are at the man who killed 50 people or the movement he reportedly pledged allegiance to, then you need to take serious stock of your moral priorities. To fight the enemy, we have to focus on the enemy.” —David French

Observations: “In terms of politics, the fall-out from the Orlando attack will pit The Ban (Trump’s Muslim ban and its associated rhetorical emphasis on toughness and the folly of PC) versus The Resume (Hillary’s case that she is the experienced, steady hand who is the safest choice in a crisis).” —Rich Lowry

Alpha Jackass: “Say a prayer for [the Orlando victims] and say a prayer for their families — that God give them the strength to bear the unbearable. And that He give us all the strength to be there for them, and the strength and courage to change.” —Barack Obama (Why should WE change because of what a radical Islamist jihadi did?)

The BIG Lie: “We mourn with the people of Orlando and the LGBT community as a whole on the news that — once again — we have lost precious lives to the gun.” —New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio

Haters gonna hate: “50 dead in Orlando club massacre — THANKS, NRA.” —New York Daily News front page

Braying Jackass: “It’s about them crashing and hitting a building — a place where people live. It’s about the terror that they cause in people when they strafe neighborhoods. That’s something I hear about all the time when Blue Angels fly overhead.” —San Francisco City Supervisor John Avalos after Marine Capt. Jeff Kuss gave his life to save civilians32 when he crashed in Nashville earlier this month

And last: “Hillary Clinton said … that she would like to see the FBI investigation of her emails wrapped up. Hillary then said, ‘Or deleted. Whatever’s easiest.’” —Conan O'Brien
