Fundamental Truths
By: Howell Osborne

Change:
1. You CANNOT remain spiritually where you are, you will either move forward or backwards.
2. Anything that does not change you is unnecessary in your life.

3. A crisis will always occur at the point of change.

4. Everyone will fall, the spiritually mature will get right back up.

5. Failure is not an event, it is an opinion.

Goals:

1. Never complain about what you permit.
2. You must have GOALS in life.

3. Without focus, you will fail.

4. You cannot hit a target, unless you KNOW what it is.

5. Don’t look at where you have been, look at where you can be.

6. Losers focus on what they are going through, while the spiritually mature focus on where they are going.

7. Each act of obedience shortens the distance of your goal.

8. You are never as far from your goal as it first appeared.

9. The spiritual mature are willing to do something they HATE to produce something they LOVE.

10. When you want something you never had, you must do something you have never done before.

Giving and Receiving:

1. Giving is the proof that you have conquered greed.
2. If what you now possess is not enough to be your harvest, make it your seed.

3. Give others what they CANNOT get anywhere else, and they will keep on returning.

4. When you let go of what is in your hand, God will let go of what is in His.

Fellowship:

1. Go where you are celebrated instead of where you are tolerated.
2. Loneliness is NOT the absence of affection, but the absence of direction.

3. Those who do not respect your assignment disqualify themselves for a relationship.

4. When God wants to bless you He puts a person in your life.

5. When Satan wants to destroy you he puts a person in your life.

6. Your relationship to someone in trouble may influence God the next time you are in trouble.

7. Those who do not respect your time will not respect your wisdom.

Service:

1. Your assignment is not your decision, but your discovery.
2. If you are having a struggle, then that alone proves you have not been conquered.

3. Satan’s favorite entry point into your life is usually though someone close to you.

4. Satan always attacks those next in line for promotion.

5. The atmosphere you permit determines the product you produce.

6. Pain is not the enemy, but the proof that one exists.

7. Refusal to accept your present determines your future.

8. The problem that infuriates you the most is the problem that God has assigned you to solve.

9. What you are willing to walk away from determines what God will bring to you.

10. Those who UNLOCK your compassion are the ones YOU have been assigned to.

11. Never rewrite your theology to accommodate a situation.

12. Those who create the pain of yesterday do not control the pleasure of tomorrow.

13. The secret of your future is hidden in your daily routine.

14. Those who CANNOT increase you inevitably will decrease you.

15. The true spiritual believer will walk away from something with a desire to protect something they love.

16. What you repeatedly hear you will eventually believe.

17. What you see today is but a photograph of yesterday’s faith.

18. When FATIGUE moves into your life, FAITH move out.

19. When you discover your assignment, you will have discovered your enemy.

20. You cannot be what you are not, but you can become what you are not.

21. You cannot correct what you are not willing to confront.

22. You will be pursued for the problems you can solve.

23. You will be remembered for two things: the problems you solve and the ones you create.

24. You will never be spiritually promoted until you have become over qualified for what you are now doing.

25. You will change your belief system when it will no longer produce what you need.

26. You will never leave where you are UNTIL you decide where you would rather be.

27. You will never conquer what you refuse to hate.

28. You will never posses what you are willing to pursue.

29. You will never reach the palace talking like a peasant.

30. What you fail to master in life will eventually master you.

31. Never discuss a problem with someone incapable of solving it.

32. Silence CANNOT be misquoted.

33. You are not a HUMAN DOING, you are a HUMAN BEING.

34. There is no way to happiness, happiness is the way.

Tell this to the government with respect to my taxes:
Quote
2. Anything that does not change you is unnecessary in your life.
(uh, it does make me poorer; I suppose that's change)   Grin
----------------------------------

Actually, I started getting back up before I started to mature spiritually - one can't mature without the falls. It's in the knowing that growth comes with a fall (yeah, okay I know "pride goeth before a fall")

Quote
4. Everyone will fall, the spiritually mature will get right back up.
-------------------------------

What is a loser? (in other words, I take issue with someone calling another a loser) If one has wisdom to impart, one can do it without putting down others.

Quote
6. Losers focus on what they are going through, while the spiritually mature focus on where they are going.
---------------------------------

Like what? This could be the biggest can of worms yet. It needs qualifying and doesn't stand on it's own merit as a useful statement. For instance, I would be willing to stand in front of a maniac wielding a knife to protect another person (how does that produce something I love?). On the other hand, I wouldn't be willing to break God's word, even if someone told me it would produce a brand new christian. (and I have a feeling I probably shouldn't even be responding...)

Quote
9. The spiritual mature are willing to do something they HATE to produce something they LOVE.
--------------------------------------

What if Jesus had done that? This is not how to spread the gospel.

Quote
1. Go where you are celebrated instead of where you are tolerated.
---------------------------------------
Another yes and no - I am an adult woman; unlikely that I can become a male child. I am a mother and grandmother; it's unlikely that I could become a father or grandfather. l could give other instances, but that's enough to disqualify the statement as it stands.

Quote
20. You cannot be what you are not, but you can become what you are not.
----------------------------------------

There's more I disagree with, but I really AM NOT trying to be contrary.

Statements like the ones posted really cannot stand alone without qualification...or at least in a specific context.

Forgive me if I sound judgemental, I'm not trying to. Just trying to voice my own opinions.

Chew it up and spit out the bones!

On one hand, I do argue with some of these much the way Gracie does;

On the other hand, it is truly amazing the way these things can remind us of things we already know. And even more amazing how much we all sometimes need to be reminded of things we already know!  Smiley

And let's, why don't we, try to express our differences of opinion in a way that is loving and respectful of each other, even if we have no respect for the opinion!

In His love,

-Grace
