How true this is............

COFFEE

A group of alumni, highly established in their careers, got talking at a reunion and decided to go visit their old university professor, now retired.

During their visit, conversation soon turned into complaints about stress in their work and lives.

Offering his guests coffee, the professor went to the kitchen and returned with a large pot of coffee and an assortment of cups porcelain, plastic, glass, crystal, some plain looking, some expensive, some exquisite bone china - telling them to help themselves to the coffee.

When all the alumni had a cup of coffee in hand, the professor said, 'Notice that all the nice looking, expensive cups were taken up, leaving behind the plain and cheap ones.

While it is normal for you to want only the best for yourselves, that is the source of your problems and stress. Be assured that the cup itself adds no quality to the coffee. In most cases it is just more expensive and in some cases even hides what we drink.

What all of you really wanted was coffee, not the cup, but you consciously went for the best cups... and then you began eyeing each other's cups.

Now consider this: Life is the coffee; your job, money and position in society are the cups. They are just tools to hold and contain life. The type of cup one has does not define, nor change the quality of life a person lives.

Sometimes, by concentrating only on the cup, we fail to enjoy the coffee God has provided us.

'The happiest people don't have the best of everything. They just make the best of everything.' God brews the coffee, not the cups... Enjoy your coffee! Live simply. Love generously. Care deeply. Speak kindly. Spend time with God over your coffee. But most of all thank him for the opportunity to enjoy his company.

'The happiest people don't have the best of everything.

This whole article was really good.  I especially liked the two that I have highlighted.
The first has been my philosophy for a long time.  It works in different directions too.  It does not "define" who you are, it does not "define" who others are and, it does not "define" who others think they are.

As a receptionist at Microsoft and especially in my building which is a "senior" building; meaning there are alot of VP's, GM's etc there; I see 1000's of people every month (in my building alone) and I deal with a lot of different personalities.  Most I have to say are really great.  I love joking with them.  I'm friendly and they are friendly back.  I try to always do my best and I go out of my way for my clients.  However, when someone comes across my desk with an attitude that they are really somebody and I'm nobody let me tell you....I can get really sloooow!  Grin  And never lose my smile either!

As to the second quote, I can sure testify.  I've had plenty and I've had nothing.  Right now, I am barely making it payday to payday but let me tell you that I'm the happiest I have ever been in my life!  I have a little place, but it's mine.  I pay the rent.  I have family near me.  I have a couple of close friends.  Not "materially" rich by any means.  But I am spiritually rich.  I have joy.  I have a sense of humor that most enjoy.  I have fun.  And I don't have to spend money to do it.
Thanks for letting me ramble a bit here.  Grin

Hello Grammyluv,

Sister Yvette, our Spiritual Riches in CHRIST are greater than anything mankind can imagine. Not only do we take them with us when we leave this world, they become greater when we get HOME and they are Eternal. I love the fact that this world isn't our HOME. Our Citizenship is in Heaven and CHRIST has gone before us to prepare a place for us.

Love In Christ,
Tom

Ephesians 1:18-23 NASB
I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened, so that you will know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints, and what is the surpassing greatness of His power toward us who believe. These are in accordance with the working of the strength of His might which He brought about in Christ, when He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places, far above all rule and authority and power and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this age but also in the one to come. And He put all things in subjection under His feet, and gave Him as head over all things to the church, which is His body, the fullness of Him who fills all in all.

Ephesians 3:14-19 NASB
For this reason I bow my knees before the Father, from whom every family in heaven and on earth derives its name, that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with power through His Spirit in the inner man, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; and that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ which surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled up to all the fullness of God.

…Be ye holy; for I am holy" 1 Peter 1:16

I think everyone is different on what makes a good cup of coffee. With today's hot coffee trend, we try all kinds of flavorings and different ways of experiencing coffee. It used to be basically served black or with cream and sugar. There wasn't much variety.

Nowadays, people like coffee served and brewed a lot of different ways. We tend to disagree on what's good. What we usually agree on is the basics on what makes a bad cup of coffee. It can be weak, bitter, stale, cold, or soured by something we put in it and we'd probably all agree that it tastes bad. Face it. No one likes to drink a bad cup of coffee.

I don't suppose people like those bad tasting Christians they come across either. I wonder what type of coffee we'd be.

Weak
When we are weak Christians, we don't have much faith. Sometimes when we are weak we don't know God's Word enough to know what we stand on. The way to remedy our weakness is to add some grounds.  Dig into God's Word and get grounded on the principles found in the bible. Study the attributes of God. Learn what you believe concerning doctrine and bone up on the basics of living the Christian life. Enrich yourself with a vibrant prayer life and rely on God's strength and not your own.

Bitter
I've known my share of bitter Christians and I've been there at a few points in my own life but if bitterness isn't dealt with, it starts growing and eating up your life. Bitterness doesn't leave a pleasant aroma. You can't do much with a bitter cup of coffee. No matter how much cream or sugar, or even how much whip cream you want to plop on top, the bitter taste is still there. You have to dump it out and refill the cup with a new fresh brewed pot of coffee.

Isn't that just so like in the Christian life? No matter how much we add to our Christian lives, no matter how many good deeds we do, how many church programs we become involved with, if our bitterness is still there, we are still bitter and it hinders us in our Christian walk. What we need to do is empty all our bitterness and ourselves of self and then allow the filling of the Holy Spirit to take control of our lives.

Stale
The dictionary describes, stale as "tasteless or unpalatable from age". Do you ever get complacent about your Christianity? Just have lost that first love? It's easy to do, especially for those of us who've known the Lord for a very long time. We kind of get weary in well doing.

I know we don't want to just sit as Christians and not do anything but we do. "Unpalatable" doesn't go far enough to describe us sometimes. I guess we need to freshen up. There's a worship chorus that says, "Holy Spirit fall fresh on me. Melt me, mold me, fill me, use me. Spirit of the Living God, fall fresh on me." I think that's what we all need so that we will get busy for the Lord. We don't want to be Christians that just sit and get stale and tasteless.

Cold
You may have brought a cup of coffee to your lips that you hadn't realized had gotten cold. You think it's going to be warm and good and then you realize that it's cold. We get that way in our desire to serve Christ. We grow cold as a Christian. There are probably a lot of reasons. We get away from Christ, slow down in our bible reading and prayer life, stop going to church and pretty soon we are cold.

What do you do to a cold cup of coffee? Most of us just add a little bit of hot stuff from the coffee pot. We go to the source of the heat. That's how we should do as Christians. Go to the Source. Get on our knees and talk to the Lord. Draw closer to Him and then we'll get warmed up in our Christian walk.

Sour
Have you ever tried something new in your coffee? With all those new flavorings and things out there, I'm sure some have. Ever tried something in your coffee that just left a sour taste in your mouth and that didn't agree with you? Or maybe you've put some cream that had gone bad into your coffee. That's a sure fire way to ruin a perfectly good cup of coffee.

It's the same thing when we allow worldly and ungodly things into our lives as Christians. It doesn't agree with us because we are in the world but not of it. As Christians, those things sour us and basically make us rotten. We become ineffective in our Christian lives when we allow the things of the world to come spilling in.

I hope I don't prove to be a bad cup of coffee. This past Sunday I spoke about being in the presence of the Lord. I used the verse, "…Be ye holy; for I am holy", 1 Peter 1:16 and was talking about how we should spend time with the Lord brings that sweet aroma. I think that's what this is all about. In order to avoid being weak, bitter, stale, cold, and sour as Christians, we have to learn to be in the presence of God more.

Spending time with the Lord through prayer, bible reading and study is what's going to make us into those strong cups of coffee. It will allow us to let the Holy Spirit stir us. We think of it as just a devotional time or bible reading time but when we realize that we are spending time in the "presence of the Lord" it really puts things into perspective. He's a great and holy God and we have the opportunity to spend time with Him each day. He'll blend us to perfection if we'll just spend time with Him.

So, what type of coffee are you?

Amen Dreamweaver,

Brother, that's a great illustration, one that we should all think about and pray about on a regular basis. I know that GOD can help us not taste bad quite as often. Left to our own ways, man is prone to frequent failure and bad taste. I'm sure that we taste the best when CHRIST is shining strongly in us and through us.

Love In Christ,
Tom

1 Timothy 2:5-6 NASB
For there is one God, and one mediator also between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, who gave Himself as a ransom for all, the testimony given at the proper time.

Brothers and Sisters,

I had a great day and had a lot of fun today. It's midnight and I do have a little bit of work that I need to get done, so I'll be back and forth for a bit. I'll say goodnight in case I miss anyone. In case you're wondering, I am drinking coffee but I feel that I might run out of gas soon. I'll holler at everyone tomorrow.

KEEP LOOKING UP!!

Good Morning. I just realized I hadn't stopped in here for a cup of coffee of late. Today I have been busy playing catch-up in posting on the forum and thought by gosh, be sure to stop by here. I enjoyed reading the articles and funny pictures posted and mostly the blessings and praises to our Lord. As most of you know by now, I won my disability case this week and now I can try to make my life a little better in at least being able to pay of lots of medical bills. Many thanks go out to all those who tried to give me support when depression got me down and also for all the prayers that kept me going. Hope you all have a wonderful day in the Lord.

As you know Seattle, where I live, is the coffee capital!  We have at least one Starbucks on every block and sometimes more.  Starbucks got it's start here and is now in other countries even!

So thought it would be coffee break worthy to share how you take our cup of Java!

Besides the fancy lattes' when I prefer a "double tall, non-fat, sugar free vanilla; I just take mine strong and black with a bit of sweetner.

Yeah, I remember going to Seattle in 1986 and trying to get a regular cup of coffee at one of the many coffee shops there. I got a definite look from the person that indicated as though I were stupid and a response of what kind of coffee. I said just a regular cup of coffee and they in turn told me they didn't serve that and needed to know what blend, etc I wanted.

The coffee I ended up getting cost a fortune and tasted really bad. I just went back to the ship and got a cup of real coffee. Since then I have learned to ask for 100% Columbian medium dark with cream and sugar. A mouthful when compared to just "Coffee, please."

I sometimes take mine straight black and other times with cream and sugar. On rare occasions I get one of those flavored creamers. I like a mocha, a chocolate raspberry, or a touch of cinnamon. The cinnamon is Brother Tom's fault. He got me started on it.   Grin Grin
