Dreamweaver, Brother, I'm a little bit late in telling you to sleep well, but sleep well. I still have a few things to do while the electricity is still on. If you haven't already guessed - YES - I'm drinking coffee.

So far so good - we still have hot coffee in our igloo. We did lose electricity several times, but things have been fairly stable for about the last 5 hours.
We had a weird thunder sleet storm this morning, and the ice is getting pretty deep. Our high has been 25 and the wind chill is about 14, so everything is frozen. I'll give a very simple weather advisory - if you want to drive this way - DON'T! - but it's great for ice-skating.

It's supposed to be 14 here with a wind chill of less than 0, and we're supposed to get more ice before morning. We might get some relief by Tuesday with temperatures slightly above 30. Right now, we might be able to get out of our driveway, but there would be little chance of getting to a main street. This would be assuming that we are able to open our ice cube car. On top of everything else, there are water main breaks on some main streets near us. We're amazed that our electricity has been fairly stable because people all around us are without. We've just had several short periods of outage, so we give thanks that we are warm and safe. Our hospitals have trucks to bring employees to and from the hospital, and most of the rest of the city is closed - just one giant ice cube. Fort Sill is even closed except for what they call essential personnel. The only traffic we saw on our street today was a truck pulling a sofa behind it, and a group of teens on the sofa enjoying the ride.

Brother Tom do you have an electric range or a gas range? I remember when I was growing up in NJ, when we had winter storms and power outages my mom used to turn the oven on so the house would warm up a little.

My heart and prayers go with all that are experiencing this bad weather. So far we have received nothing but rain up here with very little ice during the night. Even then the roads have stayed clear. It is 28 degrees right now with a wind chill of 20. The weather service is calling for scattered snow flurries today with some snow tonight but nothing like further south of here. Nothing to keep people home.

I've seen on the news some of the accidents caused by the ice storm. My prayers are with you all.
I know it's hard not having electricity and it being so cold. I will keep praying.

Hello Sister Maria, We're really not very well prepared in Oklahoma because something like this is rare, and that includes the road crews and road equipment. We are out of luck without electricity. All we current have that generates heat is storm candles and 2 oil lamps. We were very fortunate and only had a total of about 4 hours without electricity, but people all around us were without for pretty long periods of time. This is North Pole weather, not Oklahoma weather. Things warmed up some today. If we get more sunshine tomorrow, I think this storm will pretty much be over for us. We only get something like this once every 10 to 15 years, so nobody invests much in trying to be ready.
