Grin Grin  maybe he can keep up when he gets it   Grin Grin

We are thinking about driving down to Port St. Lucie, to see my brother and my sister in law, my sister is flying in from NJ tomorrow night and she'll be there too. It should be a lot of fun.

I still say maybe. I got a fast computer myself and fast internet.

True, but for someone who has dial-up and a dinosaur for a PC, he's been keeping up pretty good I'd say.

I just hope the parts I send brother DW are usefull to him. Sometimes with hand-me-down computers, you end up with the same thing you started with. problems.

Between his components and the stuff I send, there should be enpugh to have a working computer, faster than the existing one.

this one apparently doesn't like improper shut downs, you have to go into the bios and not change anything, just go in and "exit without saveing" then it starts up fine. If you shut down normally (the windows way Roll Eyes) it is fine.

probably just a setting but I haven't even powered it up. Not that I would know how to track it down...... Shocked

I hate when windowa does an update and restarts my computer, sometimes I am still working on material that I haven't saved and it'll do that unless I'm sitting at the computer, and not allowing it to shut down. But other times I get up in the morning and I find that my computer has rebooted and my work if gone...I don't know it there is a way to stop that, I'll have to check into it.

Sister there is a setting in program for windows update that will require it to check with you before restarting.

If those parts aren't sufficient for DW then I do have a few here. I am still watching the schools to see if they sell anymore of their computers. The last one we got had all kinds of very good expensive programs that came with it.

I wish I could remember how to set this stuff up. Since XP came out there is no real need for alot of knowlage. put your new stuff inand turn it on, maybe install XP again if required.

they are so cheap now you can get a bace modle (2.4 gig 512 ram cd burner) for under $300.

I don't even build them anymore, I just buy a new one if I it can't be fixed for less than a new one. I save the RAM and drives, but the rest.......not worth keeping.

The one I  sent Bob was just too outdated for my use (did a little gameing and couldne get video cards for it that worked with the games) so I got a new one. My cousin had if for a while and rechipped it to a 1. something gig AMD and then built a whole new one. He had it for his kids to use but slowly pushed it into the closet. Grin

Should be ther Tuesday.

yes I have it Brother Roger, and it does ask me but if I'm not at the PC and I don't respond within a set amount of time, then it automatically reboots. That's what I'm trying to make it stop doing. I've lost a lot of unsaved data because of that.

The only other thing I know of is to set it to where you do the manual updates. I have mine set to manual and do a check once a week.

It sounds like a really good one for most of the reasons that he would use it for.
