Deuteronomy 28:2-6
All these blessings will come upon you and accompany you if you obey the LORD your God: You will be blessed in the city and blessed in the country. The fruit of your womb will be blessed, and the crops of your land and the young of your livestock-the calves of your herds and the lambs of your flocks. Your basket and your kneading trough will be blessed. You will be blessed when you come in and blessed when you go out.
“Blessed in the city and blessed in the country”
“Blessed when you come in and blessed when you go out”
How wonderful! Yet in the lives of many Christian’s curses seemed to abound.
“Cursed in the city and cursed in the country”
“Cursed when you come in and cursed when you go out”
Can “disobedience” be the cause for the curse? Deuteronomy 28 is a chapter of blessings and curses dependant on ones obedience or disobedience to God respectively. The first 14 verses with great blessings and the verses from 15-68 horrible curses. It’s a matter of choice. We can obey and be blessed, disobey and have unwanted problems galore in our lives. And God had a piece of good advice to the Israelites to whom he spoke these things about blessings and curses. He said, “This day I call heaven and earth as witnesses against you that I have set before your life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life, so that you and your children many live.” (Deuteronomy 30:19)
So it’s up to you. God wants to bless you but you must be obedient to him. And to receive blessings God told the Israelites a couple of requirements in Deuteronomy 28:1- fully obey the Lord and carefully follow His commands. So let it be in your life. God bless you.
