For the last two weeks, I watched a television broadcast on TBN that was indeed an eye opener.  Bishop Keith Butler is a pastor, and a candidate for the U.S. senate in Michigan. The other man's name is David Barton. I can't remember all of what Barton does, but he is definitely active in the activities of our Gov't. I would like to pose a question, and even a review of the role we should be taking as christians in our public offices, and why. How much influence could we have?

Hello allin 1, I see you are new so welcome to Christians Unite forums.

Christians urge their governments to over turn unfair laws. Help support Christianity, through public service. If the power to govern is a good thing, the the following are good: taxes, fines, jails, courts, lawyers, armies, weapons, war, diplomacy, economics, police, CIA, and who knows what else? There for, since these actions are good exercises of a good power, it is consistent for a Christian to have an active life within the exercise of governance.

We Christians should honor our brothers and sisters who take that path. What we do not recognize is for them to deny to all Christians the right of participating in the power to govern. Such participation is honorable at all levels, as the apostle says in verse seven: Give everyone what you owe him: If you owe taxes, pay taxes; if revenue, then revenue; if respect, then respect; if honor, then honor.

The power to govern is a natural and rational power. It belongs to what is call Common Grace, the blessings that God sends on all human beings. It is just that in our fallen world what is natural and reasonable is not enough. If Nature and Reason is all we have, they will sooner or later go terribly bad.

One thing that we all must remember, the government Is God, there is no higher boss. Romans 13:1-2 Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God. 2 Whosoever therefore resisteth the power, resisteth the ordinance of God: and they that resist shall receive to themselves damnation.

Resting in the hands, of Jesus.

Hello Allin 1,

WELCOME!!!

Wherever we go and whatever we do, Christians should NEVER be ashamed of JESUS and the things of GOD. I am convinced that GOD calls Christians into many lines of work, including politics and government. I give thanks for any good influence. I know that many Christians COULD do more for GODLY ways in our society if only they WOULD. AND, that applies to every Christian, regardless of what kind of work they do. At the very least, all of us should know that everything we do and say becomes either a positive or a negative testimony for Christ.

I'm very sad to say that some Christians are so covert that nobody knows they are a Christian. There are rules to follow in every line of work, but a living testimony for Christ is possible for every Christian. I was a Christian police officer for 25 years, and I am convinced that God led me to that work. I give thanks that God used me many times for HIS purposes. This makes me very happy, and I pray that God will continue to use me in retirement. I want to always yield to HIS Will and Purpose, and I pray that all will be to HIS Glory Alone.

Love In Christ,
Tom

Psalms 111:7-8 NASB  The works of His hands are truth and justice; All His precepts are sure.  They are upheld forever and ever; They are performed in truth and uprightness.
