TUBERCULOSIS EVOLVES as scientists reports: "By comparing genomes of M.
tuberculosis strains taken from people in Europe and Africa, Cristina Gutierrez
and her colleagues at the Pasteur Institute found evidence that all modern
strains have evolved from a strain that still exists in East Africa. That
strain, the scientists estimate, first appeared 3 million years ago. Their
results appeared in the September 2005 PLoS Pathogens. Only Africa has endemic
M. tuberculosis strains in all six families, Gagneux says, and two of those
families occur nowhere else. "The most plausible theory is that TB has been in
humans pretty much as long as humans have been humans," Behr says, "and the
bacteria had an out-of-Africa migration with its host." "It now seems possible
that the first inhabitants of the Americas already lived with an African family
of M. tuberculosis but could not fight off the more virulent Euro-American
strain that came across the Atlantic in the 15th and 16th centuries. Anecdotal
evidence suggests that the Euro-American family is now outcompeting African
strains in Africa," Gagneux says. "The best explanation for these patterns",
Stone says, is that "M. tuberculosis has been evolving to infect people as
people have evolved to fight it. It's an arms race," she says, "between the
human immune system and TB".

ED.COM. So all can now see that one species of Tuberculosis has evolved into
exactly the same species of Tuberculosis. And even if you allow the 3 million
years they want - nothing has actually evolved at all. Reminiscent of the
Emperor's new clothes isn't it.

NEW RODENT IS LIVING FOSSIL, according to a report on BBC Online News, 9 Mar
2006 ScienceNOW and Science vol. 311 p1456, 10 Mar 2006. IN 2005 a previously
unknown (to the scientific community that is) type of rodent was found in a
hunter's market in Laos by Robert Timmins of the Wildlife Conservation Society
and specimens were sent to the Natural History Museum, London for study and
classification. The animal is similar in size to a red squirrel, but has grey
fur and is known by the local people as the kha-nyou. Scientists found that its
teeth and bones were a "striking match" to a fossil rodent believed to have been
extinct for 11 million years, making the animal a "living fossil". The
scientists who studied and classified it have given the animal the scientific
name "Laonastes aenigmamus" and refer to its discovery as "a particularly
striking example of the "Lazarus effect" in recent mammals, whereby a taxon that
was formerly thought to be extinct is rediscovered in the extant biota, in this
case after a temporal gap of roughly 11 million years." Taking up the Biblical
theme of Lazarus, the ScienceNOW article was entitled "Rodent rises from the
Dead".

ED. COM The use of the term "Lazarus effect" is an example of ignorance and
hypocrisy in the evolutionist scientific community. If the authors of the
Science paper and ScienceNOW article knew their Bibles they would know that
Lazarus was resurrected by Jesus Christ after actually being dead, not just
being out of sight. As the local people in Laos had a name for this new animal,
it can't even be claimed to have been missing, let alone presumed dead. If
creationists display this kind of ignorance about evolutionists' writings they
are loudly condemned. Likewise If you believe the evolutionary timetable
"Laonastes aenigmamus" has stayed the same over 11 million years, and that is no
help to a theory that claims animals change from one kind to another through
time. Charles Darwin was the first to use the term "living fossil" to describe
living creatures that are the same as their fossilised relatives. In fact,
living fossils like this newly found creature are good evidence for creation.
Genesis tells us that living creatures were created as fully functional
organisms, designed to multiply after their kind. Both the fossil and living
specimens of this creature are only known as fully formed creatures, and if the
living specimens are the descendents of the fossil specimens they must have
reproduced after their kind.

BRAINIEST FISH FOLLOWS ITS CHIN, according to an article in news@nature 23
Aug 2007. The elephant nose fish is a weird looking fish with an elongated
projection sticking out from its chin. This contains numerous electrical senses
than can detect distortions in the fish's own electric field to help it navigate
around obstacles in the dark. Scientists at the University of Bonn, Germany,
have tested the ability of the fish to distinguish different shapes in its
environment by placing a cube and a pyramid in its tank and rewarding it with a
worm when it swam to the pyramid. After the fish had learned to recognise the
pyramid the scientists substituted it with a wire frame in the shape of a
pyramid and the fish still picked it out, suggesting that the fish could use its
electric sense to form an impression of a shape from just its outline. If the
pyramid wasn't present the fish swam towards the object that was the closest
match in volume. Gerhard von der Emde, who led the study, commented: "It's very
impressive how detailed their view of the environment is." The elephant nose
fish has the biggest brain (relative to body size) of any fish, and these
experiments indicate that it can build up "sophisticated three dimensional
images of its natural environment" using the electrical sensors. In its natural
environment the fish sweeps its "nose" over the ground like a person using a
metal detector to find its way around obstacles and find food. The researchers
are hoping to copy the "electrolocation" system and develop electric field
sensing devices that could be used to give night "vision" to underwater robots.

ED. COM. The electric sense of this fish is clearly superior to any man made
metal detector and if scientists are able to copy it they will again have
proven that it takes creative design and engineering to make such a device. This
fish is not the first creature discovered to use electric senses to find its way
around in the dark. The "duckbill" of the platypus also contains electric sense
organs that enable it to swim along the muddy bottoms of rivers with their eyes
closed, avoiding obstacles and finding food.

PROMOTER REGIONS EXPLAIN APE HUMAN DIFFERENCE, reports an article in
ScienceNOW 13 Aug 2007. Although chimp and human genes are claimed to be 99
percent the same you don't have to be a biologist to see that chimps and humans
are very different. Way back in 1975 Allan Wilson of the University of Wisconsin
suggested the difference may lie in the way genes are regulated, i.e. when they
are turned on and off and how active they are. A group of scientists at Duke
University have now carried out a study of promoter regions, sections of DNA
that regulate adjacent genes, in the human, chimp and macaque (a monkey)
genomes. They found 575 human gene promoters that were quite different from
chimps. Most of these were involved in controlling the development of nerve
cells and their connections. A large number of others were involved in
carbohydrate metabolism. Molecular geneticist Sean Carroll of the University of
Wisconsin, Madison commented that the study offers some "intriguing leads" on
candidate genes to be followed up, and that changes in regulatory sequences may
be important in the evolution of many species.

ED. COM. Promoter regions are much smaller than genes. Therefore, they only
account for small differences in the DNA of different species, but they have
huge effect. This research confirms that simply comparing whole genomes, or even
individual genes give no indication of what makes two species different and it
is about time evolutionists stopped using the 99 percent excuse for claiming
that chimps and humans were once the same creature.

CACTI HAVE LITTLE LEAVES, according to a report in ABC (Australia) News in
Science, 22 Aug 2007. James Mauseth of the University of Austin, Texas has
examined 147 cactus species and found that cacti have microscopic leaves at the
base of their spine clusters. Almost all the leaves lacked blades, but had
conducting tissue for moving food and water in the plant. Mauseth suggests that
cacti "began as regular leafy plants in the Americas, with many species later
evolving spines." In other types of plants leaves are the main site of
photosynthesis and are sites of gas exchange, but these functions occur in the
stems of cacti, so what is the function of the microscopic leaves? Mauseth
suggests that cacti "need even the tiniest of leaves for the plant to establish
its axillary buds, which emerge near where leaves attach to the main stem." He
commented: "So the plants cannot lose leaves altogether, or they might then not
be able to produce buds, or would produce them in the wrong spot." He explained
that "cacti genetically control their leaf size, in part, through release of
plant growth hormones, such as auxin." He hopes that cacti may provide a good
model for testing theories about plant genetics and hormonal control.

ED. COM. So the evolutionist theory is that cacti used to have leaves but lost
them, and they once had no spines and they gained them. Does that sound
familiar? The biblical picture is the same even if the reasons are different.
The Biblical history of a God made a "very good" world, is. one that did not
have dangerous plants. However, after man rebelled against his Creator, Genesis
3 reminds us that as judgement, God cursed the ground and said that thorns and
thistles would grow. Therefore, we would not be surprised to find that present
day spikey cacti are the degenerate descendents of once leafy plants.

"NATURAL INSECTICIDE RECREATED IN THE LAB" is the headline of an article in
Biology news Net 23 Aug 2007. A team of British scientists has made a compound
named azadirachtin, a substance that inhibits the development of a numerous
destructive insects, but does not harm beneficial insects such as bees and
ladybugs. The compound occurs naturally in the Neem, or Indian lilac tree. The
structure of the molecule was worked out in 1985 and it has taken 22 years of
dedicated research by the team led by Steven Ley at the University of Cambridge
to work out how to make the molecule in the lab. It is a large, complicated
molecule with 16 stereocentres, sites where two possible mirror image molecules
could fit but only one will work, a "complex pattern of oxygen-containing
functional groups, and a conformation and reactivity that are strongly dependent
on intramolecular bridging hydrogen bonds." Ley commented: "While we have been
working on this complex synthesis we have also developed a number of new methods
that are of general use for the construction of other important molecules."


ED. COM. The scientists in the re-creation team deserve our congratulation, but
why do we want to avoid the obvious - the One who originally created it without
a copy to go by must be much cleverer. Making this molecule took careful plan
and purpose, involving the invention of new chemical techniques. It is foolish
to believe that the Neem tree, or blind chance, did all this. Anyone involved in
the 22 years of research now has no excuse for not acknowledging the Creator of
the Neem tree and giving Him the honour due to His name.

OLDEST PERSON'S DEATH "NOT SUDDEN" quotes an item in New Scientist 25 Aug
2007, p12. Yone Minagawa, a Japanese woman, died aged 114 years and 7 months on
Monday 13 Aug 2007. According to Japan News Review, 14 Aug 2007, she "died of
old age at a nursing home in Fukuchi, Fukuoka Prefecture". She was born on 4
January 1893. Toshiro Tachibana, an official at the nursing home, commented:
"The death was not sudden."

ED. COM. Waiting 114 years to die is not sudden, and it's a sad reminder that
death is inevitable for all people. However let's make the unpopular point that
Yone did not actually die of old age. Deep down everyone knows that death is not
a natural part of life, because given the chance of a healthy life everyone
wants to live longer. Death is moral penalty for disobeying our Creator. In the
beginning one man Adam died for sin and all the human race inherited the problem
and the penalty. But God sent His sinless Son, the Lord Jesus Christ to die and
his death has paid the penalty for all those who will repent of their rebellion
and put their trust in Him. The solution to death is not to help people live to
be 114 or beyond, but to accept the solution offered by the Creator of life.

BREAKING LIGHT'S SPEED LIMIT described in an article in New Scientist, 18
Aug 2007, p8. Two German physicists have propelled photons (particles of light)
across a gap between two prisms at a speed much faster than light - something
Einstein's special theory of relativity claims is impossible. Gunter Nimtz and
Alfons Stahlhofen, of the University of Koblenz, were investigating a phenomenon
called quantum tunnelling. They were using microwaves rather than visible light,
but microwaves are part of the electromagnetic spectrum that includes visible
light and therefore have the same speed limit. Their experiment involved setting
up two prisms with a one metre (3ft 3in) gap in between and beaming microwaves
from the side of one prism. Some of the microwave photons travelled through one
prism, across the gap, then through the other prism to a microwave detector. The
rest of the beam was reflected within the first prism and bounced back to
another detector. Although the two parts of the split beam had travelled
different distances the two detectors registered their arrival at the same time.
This means the beam crossed the gap so fast that the detectors couldn't measure.
If the beam had travelled at the speed of light the detectors would have
registered this. Gunter Nimtz commented: "For the time being, this is the only
violation of special relativity that I know of."

ED.COM. Einstein's theories claim that the speed of light is a constant, i.e. it
cannot be changed. However, in the last few years scientists have been able to
slow light down to almost zero, and now they have managed to get to almost
infinitely fast. If human scientists can get light to change its speed then it
is no trouble for God, who created light, to vary its speed. Records of the
speed of light made over the last four centuries indicate that its speed was
faster in the past. The speed of light is a factor in many measurements used to
estimate the age and size of the universe, but scientists making these
estimations have assumed that the speed of light never changes. The experiments
described above challenge this belief. If faster speeds for light were put into
the age calculating equations they would give much younger dates.

During pregnancy a mother’s immune system must not react to “foreign” proteins which the unborn foetus makes from genes it inherited from its father. A team of scientists led by Indira Guleria of Harvard Medical School have now shown that decreased levels of a protein named PDL1 in the placenta increases the risk of foetal rejection. PDL1 protein is known to be found in high levels in the human placenta during normal pregnancy.

individual to the mother, even though it relies on her for nourishment and protection. Therefore, the “choice” claimed by the pro-abortion lobby is not just about one person’s life. All human beings at all stages of life are unique individuals, created in the image of God, and should not be disposed of as unwanted tissue. It also means that a single cell that simply divides to reproduce (evolving into separate sexes that must have complex protein countermeasures to prevent the mother destroying the developing baby), is impossible

HOBBITS FEATURE in an article on H. floresiensis from news@nature which
details evidence of nine H. floresiensis individuals found at Liang Bua
throughout 2004. ’The two jaw bones found are virtually identical even though their owners lived 3,000 years apart. "You can't have a colony of microcephalics going through time," says Brown. "That's crazy." The new bones also turned up features that are not found in modern humans. In particular, both of the jaws unearthed lack a chin structure; chins are a distinguishing feature of H. sapiens. The researchers also found arm bones from two individuals. "They are spectacularly long," says Brown, adding that the limb proportions are reminiscent not of H. sapiens but of Lucy, the 3.2-million-year-old Australopithecus afarensis found in Ethiopia in 1974’

ED.COM. Did you note the comment about their arms in today's report? The hobbits never were small humans. At best they were some kind of chimp. COUNCIL OF EUROPE CONDEMNS CREATIONISM, according to a Press Release and
Resolution 1580 (2007) of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, 4
Oct 2007 and also reported in Nature News and Nature vol 449, p649, 10 Oct 2007.
The Council of Europe is an intergovernmental assembly representing many nations
of Europe that does not make laws for European nations, but governments of
member nations are encouraged to use its recommendations when drafting
legislation. The Council is responsible for the European Convention on Human
Rights and their resolution includes this statement: “If we are not careful,
creationism could become a threat to human rights which are a key concern of the
Council of Europe.” The Assembly goes on to defend the theory of evolution and
includes a resolution: “The Parliamentary Assembly therefore urges the member
states, and especially their education authorities: ... to promote the teaching
of evolution as a fundamental scientific theory in the school curriculum.” The
scientific evidence claimed for evolution by the Parliamentary Assembly is:
“Evolution is present everywhere, from medical overprescription of antibiotics
that encourages the emergence of resistant bacteria, to agricultural overuse of
pesticides that causes insect mutations on which pesticides no longer have any
effect.” It also claims “Advances in medical research with the aim of
effectively combating infectious diseases such as AIDS are impossible if every
principle of evolution is denied. One cannot be fully aware of the risks
involved in the significant decline in biodiversity and climate change if the
mechanisms of evolution are not understood.”

ED. COM. Scientific studies of centuries old sealed soil samples containing
bacteria which have never been exposed to modern antibiotics have shown that
such bacteria already had resistance genes before antibiotics were in use by
humans. Antibiotic and pesticide resistance are simply the result of the
non-resistant forms being eliminated. Such observations do not explain how
bacteria and insects could evolve from non-life and do not even explain where
the resistance genes came from. Combating infectious diseases requires true
scientific study of living organisms in the tradition of the creationist Louis
Pasteur, who proved that spontaneous generation was a myth, proposed the germ
theory of disease, and was an implacable opponent of evolution. Decline in
biodiversity is the opposite of evolution, and climate change may result in some
species dying out, but that is not evolution either. In fact none of the
examples by the C of E have anything to do with a theory that claims hydrogen
turned into people by natural processes over millions of years.  If the evidence
offered in the Council of Europe Resolution is the best there is for evolution,
it is no wonder the evolutionists need politicians to enforce their teachings,
rather than relying on genuine scientific study.

NEW CANYON FORMED IN THREE DAYS is now open to public view according to a
report from Associated Press, 8 Oct 2007. On 4 July 2002 flood waters overran
the spillway of a reservoir on Canyon Lake Central Texas. When the floodwater
was at peak flow, it was moving at about 67,000 cubic feet per second (cfs).
Normal flow from the reservoir is 350 cfs. The water continued to flow over the
Spillway for approximately 6 weeks. And the amount of water that flowed over the
Spillway was about 3 1/2 times the amount of water that the Reservoir holds. As
the almost 70,000 cubic ft (1,982 cubic metres) per SECOND of water cascaded
downhill over next three days, it carved out a canyon a mile and half long, and
up to 80ft deep (24.4m) through the limestone rock. Bill Ward, a retired geology
professor from the University of New Orleans, described the event: "It exposed
these rocks so quickly and it dug so deeply, there wasn't a blade of grass or a
layer of algae." Numerous fossils, including worms and dinosaur footprints have
been exposed by the flood. The article compares the rapid formation of this
canyon with that of the Grand Canyon, claiming: “It took water around 5 million
to 6 million years to carve the Grand Canyon, which plunges 6,000 feet (1,830m)
at its deepest point and stretches 15 miles (24km) at its widest.”

ED. COM. This event does show that time doesn’t make a canyon, but a lot of fast
flowing water does. Let’s do the maths here. Assuming the flow of water could be
kept up at the same rate, if it took 3 days to form a canyon 80ft deep then a
6,000 foot canyon could be formed in 225 days. A massive continent covering
flood with the waters running off the earth both at the end of the flood and for
quite some time after could easily have carved huge canyons in a short time. Now
does Noah’s flood lasting 375 days described in Genesis 6 – 9, which involved a
lot more water than 70,000 cfs running off the earth for centuries afterwards
and again when the ice melted, sound so unbelievable?

NINE INCONVENIENT UNTRUTHS, rules High Court judge about Al Gore’s film,
according to reports in Times Online 11 Oct 2007. British High Court judge Sir
Michael Burton identified nine incorrect claims in Al Gore’s film on global
warming - “An inconvenient truth”, in his judgement on a challenge brought by a
school governor over whether the film should be shown in British schools. The
School governor described Gore's film as "a political shock-you-mentary".

The Judge said that the film should be allowed to be shown, but it should be
accompanied by guidance notes that balance Gore’s “one sided” views. The false
claims listed in the judgement are: Sea levels could rise by 20ft (6m) in the
near future; Pacific atolls have been evacuated; the drying out of Lake Chad,
the decrease in snow on Mt Kilimanjaro and Hurricane Katrina and coral bleaching
are the result of man-made global warming; the Gulf Stream would stop flowing;
changes in carbon dioxide levels and global temperatures were an exact fit for
the past 65,000 years; and polar bears are drowning due to lack of ice in the
Arctic. More detail on Judges ruling below.

ED. COM. It is interesting that most of the media reports centred on the fact
that the High Court allowed the film to be shown in schools, not on the
scientific errors or on the new guideline recommended by the judge. If
creationists made a film with that many false claims, there would (quite
rightly) be howls of outrage, but Al Gore gets an Oscar and a Nobel Prize. There
is no doubt that climate change is real, but it has been real for thousands of
years, and will continue until the end of the world, just as God told Noah: "As
long as the earth endures, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, summer and
winter, day and night will never cease". Political scare tactics are not going
to change this.

Judge: "The only scientific study that either side before me can find is one
which indicates that four polar bears have recently been found drowned because

2. Gore : two graphs, one plotting a rise in C02 and the other the rise in
temperature over a period of 650,000 years, showed "an exact fit".

Judge: although scientists agreed there was a connection, "the two graphs do not
establish what Mr Gore asserts".

3. Gore: the drying up of Lake Chad was used as an example of global warming.

Judge: "It is apparently considered to be more likely to result from ...
population increase, over-grazing and regional climate variability".

4. Gore: the disappearance of snow on Mt Kilimanjaro was expressly attributable
to human-induced climate change.

Judge: "The consensus was that that could not be established".

5. Gore: a sea-level rise of up to 20 feet would be caused by melting of ice in
either West Antarctica or Greenland "in the near future".

Judge: "This was "distinctly alarmist" and it was common ground that if
Greenland's ice melted it would release this amount of water - "but only after,
and over, millennia"".

6. Gore: Low lying inhabited Pacific atolls "are being inundated because of
anthropogenic global warming".

Judge: "There is no evidence of any evacuation occurring".

7. Gore: global warming is "shutting down the ocean conveyor" - the process by
which the gulf stream is carried over the north Atlantic to western Europe.

Judge: "According to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, it was "very
unlikely" that the conveyor would shut down in the future, though it might slow
down".

8. Gore: ascribed Hurricane Katrina to global warming,

Judge: "There was "insufficient evidence to show that"".

9. Gore: coral reefs all over the world were bleaching because of global warming
and other factors.

Judge: "Separating the impacts of stresses due to climate change from other
stresses, such as over-fishing, and pollution, was difficult".

CREMATORIUMS should be forced to close in an effort to reduce global warming –
it is being rumoured in the UK.

ED.COM. We doubt if this will catch on as cremation is usually touted by the
same people who promote both evolution and global warming as it is in essence a
pagan rite, and we are sure such a link of an enormous source of heat and CO2
will be ignored for convenience.
