WHY ARE PLANTS GREEN? NASA scientists claim to have found the answer in the
light from the sun, according to a report from Reuters, 11 Apr 2007. A group of
scientists from NASA's Virtual Planetary Laboratory have been developing a
computer model for predicting the colour of plants on other planets based on the
light from their stars. To do this they studied how plants and bacteria on earth
absorb and reflect the sun's light. The green colour in plants is from a pigment
named chlorophyll, which absorbs light from the red end and blue end of the
rainbow of colours that is found in sunlight, and reflects green light, which is
in the middle of spectrum. We see the reflected light, so plants appear green.
The scientists found that blue light is easier to absorb, but there is more red
light available. Therefore, according to Nancy Kiang, who led the study, plants
"don't absorb the green because they have more than enough light from blue and
red. They just don't need green." Kiang went on to comment: "It turns out plants
are actually using the best light there is." The NASA team claim they have
"uncovered maybe the best explanation of why plants are green."
ED. COM. The NASA scientists have not explained why plants are green; they have
simply observed a system that works. The fact that there is plenty of blue and
red light available as an energy source does not explain how the highly complex
and precisely shaped molecules that capture the light came into being. The most
rational explanation for any system that works well is that a rational mind
outside the system designed each component to work with the others. The God who
made light on the first creation day designed and made the plants to use "best
light there is".

Hello MaryJane,
I have also learned much. This is one of my favorite threads, mainly because the theory of evolution is falling apart. There are discoveries now all of the time that indicate the real truth - the theory of evolution is the biggest hoax and pack of lies ever tried. The devil was able to deceive many with the theory of evolution - including many Christians. I've never understood how Christians could justify this, regardless of what tags they add (i.e. theistic evolutionist).
GOD told us everything HE wanted us to know in Genesis. We'll have to wait until Eternity if we want to know more. We certainly won't be getting it from scientists. In fact, scientists by the pack are dismissing evolution as garbage by the day.

I, too, have learned a lot while researching for this thread and reading the many articles written on this subject. The theory of evolution is sinking into the garbage bin more quickly by the day. God's word has stood the tests of time and will continue to do so when all efforts to discredit His word will fade away into nothingness.

Study: Prehistoric floods separated Britain from Europe
Months-long gushes of water cut through land bridge 'like a buzz saw through Styrofoam'
Scientists using sonar to probe the floor of the English Channel have found that Britain was sliced from the European continent by massive prehistoric floods that cut it off from human migration for 120,000 years.
The new research, published today in the journal Nature, found evidence of at least two floods between 180,000 and 450,000 years ago.
The months-long gushes of water cut through the island's chalky land bridge to Europe "like a buzz saw through Styrofoam," said Steven Dutch, a geologist at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay who was not associated with the study.
The mega-floods broke through at the present Straits of Dover, the narrowest part of the channel, leaving the white cliffs of Dover where the bridge once began.
"That land bridge had been there for 13 million years," said Philip Gibbard, a geologist at the University of Cambridge, who was not part of the study.
The researchers' map of the seabed found a valley that was miles wide and more than 150 feet deep in some places. They also saw scour marks, layers and islands carved in the rock, said Sanjeev Gupta, lead author of the study and a geologist at Imperial College London.
Gupta compared the features with those of the Scablands in eastern Washington state — a scarred region covering thousands of square miles, comprising deep, dry canyons, giant holes and scattered boulders.
The region is a geological example of a landscape formed by mega-floods. The Scablands floods took place thousands of years ago, when glacial lakes in Idaho drained into the area. To a geologist, the most striking feature of the Scablands is the ripples.
"This looks just like what you'd see in a stream, but it's scaled up 100 times," Dutch said. "There are places where you can see ripple marks that are 50 feet crest to crest."
The bottom of the English Channel has similar features that could only come from a giant flood, the scientists said.
The researchers surmised that the source of the flooding was a lake in the region of the modern North Sea that overflowed because advancing glaciers blocked water from draining elsewhere.
The water poured out at a rate of more than 250 million gallons per second, the scientists said.
The mega-floods altered Britain's course in history, cutting early humans off from the island and temporarily halting migration.
"Between 180,000 years ago and 60,000 years ago there's actually no evidence for humans living in Britain," Gupta said.

The time frames given for this incident are, of course, wrong. During the flood of Noah there was a lot of changes that occurred to the earth. Such a massive change as indicated in this article would have been evident from a massive worldwide flood. We also see this same amount of change in the Grand Canyon. These changes continued after the flood waters started receding and was recorded in the Bible in the book of Job.

I like a comment given by Dave Mosher, LiveScience Staff Writer. He said, "Megaflood Created Great Divide Between Britain and France" as the title to an article that he wrote on this. Although he gives the long-ago dates in his article also he hit the nail on the head with his title.
We still see this kind of landscape shaping power in the underwater valley dubbed the “Grand Canyon of the Sea,” which is located within Monterey Bay on California’s central coast. The canyon is about a hundred miles long and with water depths greater than two miles. It is similar in many ways to the Grand Canyon.
Researchers have concluded Monterey Canyon could not have been cut out by a flowing river. They attribute its creation to catastrophic events such as earthquakes or floods. Well, now, isn’t that interesting? It is even more interesting that National Geographic and these same researchers fail to ascribe the same catastrophic events to the forming of the Grand Canyon! As noted above, water flow could not have arranged the Grand Canyon. But instead catastrophic events such as earthquakes and a diversity of other geologic revolutions, when the earth experienced a spasmodic convulsion, such as the one described during the global flood of Noah’s day.

In reality, all kinds of things can be and have been formed in very short periods of time. Earthquakes and volcanoes would be two examples of natural forces that can radically change the landscape in days - NOT hundreds of thousands of years. Something like the Great Flood would have natural power beyond our imagination, and the hard evidence is mounting that IT DID happen just as the Holy Bible said it did.

Fossil finds shake up dinosaur theories
Paleontologist: 'Everything was nice and neat before'
Dinosaur fossils found in New Mexico are challenging the idea that when dinosaurs appeared on the scene some 235 million years ago, they quickly rose to dominate the landscape.
Buried among the dinosaur bones, a team led by UC Berkeley paleontologists discovered the remnants of the dinosaurs' predecessors, dinosauromorphs, that lived 15-20 million years after the first dinosaur showed up.
"It was very exciting because we knew this was a type of animal that no one thought you'd find anywhere at any time in North America," said paleontologist Randall Irmis, a graduate student at UC Berkeley and lead author of the study which appears today in Science.
The discovery means that dinosaurs didn't simply replace their ancestors. Instead, the two types of animals lived side-by-side and competed for resources for millions of years.
"It has shaken up the old theory," said Bill Parker, a paleontologist at Petrified Forest National Park who also studies dinosaurs. "Everything was nice and neat before."
Scientists thought dinosaurs evolved from the dinosauromorphs in South America. Then, they may have driven their predecessors to extinction by outcompeting them with their bigger, faster and stronger bodies. Or, their ancestors and other animals suddenly went extinct for another reason, and the dinosaurs took advantage of the newly empty ecological niches.
Either way, the belief was that by the time dinosaurs were roaming North America, the dinosauromorphs were long gone.
"Everybody thought those animals had gone extinct," Parker said. "I think people are going to be surprised."
Previously, there was little or no overlap in time between dinosaur fossils, which first appear around 235 million years ago, and dinosauromorphs which seemed to disappear around the same time, until a single younger dinosauromorph was found in Poland in 2003.
The New Mexico find is the first with dinosaurs and their precursors living in the same place at the same time, and the bones are even younger than the Polish fossils.
Paleontologist Paul Sereno of the University of Chicago isn't convinced. "I think the more gradual picture of dinosaurs painted by the authors is more speculative," he said. "In South America, where we have the only dated sequence of early fuanas leading to dinosaur dominance, it seems to occur fairly quickly, just a few million years."
Sereno agrees that the New Mexico find shows that in some places, dinosauromorphs lived on alongside the dinosaurs. But he contends the dinosaurs did quickly replace the most important animals that were dominant in numbers, the mammallike reptiles, except for a few stragglers that were closer to crocodiles than dinosaurs.
Irmis and his team had been interested in the New Mexico quarry simply because it contained early dinosaurs between 210 and 220 million years old, which are rare in North America. But then they came across some unexpected femurs and other bones of the same age that resembled a type of dinosauromorph found in Argentina.
Irmis went to South America to compare the fossils and confirmed they were related. They named the new North American species Dromomeron romeri from the Greek words dromas and meros meaning running femur, and Alfred Sherwood Romer, the scientist who first described the Argentine species.
Dromomeron was probably between three and five feet long and may have walked on two feet. The team also found bones from another dinosauromorph that was a beaked herbivore that walked on four feet and was three times the size of Dromomeron.
Since the discovery, the paleontologists have found more Dromomeron bones that had been overlooked by other scientists at other known dinosaur fossil locations in New Mexico, Arizona and Texas.
"They just didn't have a search image in their mind to keep a look out for these things because they weren't expecting them to be there," Irmis said.
The coexistence of dinosaurs with their ancestors shows how evolution really works, Parker said.
"People think evolution is supposed to be a straight line from one form of animal to another," he said. " But it's actually more like a branching tree and this is a prime example of that."

These scientists still haven't gotten it right. It wasn't millions of years ago but rather thousands. This find just goes to show that all dinosaurs and other living things were all created at the same time and did in fact live together. It is just more rejection of the truth that lays before them.

Scientists still stymied at God's creation.
Man with tiny brain shocks doctors
A man with an unusually tiny brain manages to live an entirely normal life despite his condition, which was caused by a fluid build-up in his skull.
Scans of the 44-year-old man's brain showed that a huge fluid-filled chamber called a ventricle took up most of the room in his skull, leaving little more than a thin sheet of actual brain tissue.
“It is hard for me [to say] exactly the percentage of reduction of the brain, since we did not use software to measure its volume. But visually, it is more than a 50% to 75% reduction,” says Lionel Feuillet, a neurologist at the Mediterranean University in Marseille, France.
Feuillet and his colleagues describe the case of this patient in The Lancet. He is a married father of two children, and works as a civil servant.
Not retarded
The man went to a hospital after he had mild weakness in his left leg. When Feuillet's staff took his medical history, they learned that, as an infant, he had had a shunt inserted into his head to drain away hydrocephalus – water on the brain.
The shunt was removed when he was 14. But the researchers decided to check the condition of his brain using computed tomography (CT) scanning technology and another type of scan called magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). They were astonished to see "massive enlargement" of the lateral ventricles – usually tiny chambers that hold the cerebrospinal fluid that cushions the brain.
Intelligence tests showed the man had an IQ of 75, below the average score of 100 but not considered mentally retarded or disabled.
"The whole brain was reduced – frontal, parietal, temporal and occipital lobes – on both left and right sides. These regions control motion, sensibility, language, vision, audition, and emotional and cognitive functions," Feuillet told New Scientist.
Brain adaptation
The findings reveal "the brain is very plastic and can adapt to some brain damage occurring in the pre- and postnatal period when treated appropriately," he says.
"What I find amazing to this day is how the brain can deal with something which you think should not be compatible with life," comments Max Muenke, a paediatric brain defect specialist at the National Human Genome Research Institute in Bethesda, Maryland, US.
"If something happens very slowly over quite some time, maybe over decades, the different parts of the brain take up functions that would normally be done by the part that is pushed to the side," adds Muenke, who was not involved in the case.

Mount St. Helens 7 Wonders Museum
There are more museums and information coming out by the day in support of God's creation. There is now a museum called the "Mount St. Helens 7 Wonders Museum" located at Creation Information Center 4749 Spirit Lake Highway Silverlake, WA. 98645
This museum shows how the eruption of 1980 and the recovery afterwards supports Creation and Noah's Flood. Many scientists have assisted in the information displayed at this museum.
An excellent resource for those that enjoy going to museums or need information for teaching their children.
DISPLAYS INCLUDE:
· Rapidly produced changes at Mt. St. Helens, 1980-1984
· Canyon erosion, including the "Little Grand Canyon" of the Toutle River
· Stratification formed by hurricane-velocity pyroclastic flows
· Redeposited forests that dropped bark into Spirit Lake - forming peat
· Applications to Grand Canyon, Yellowstone and the origin of coal
· The implications of creation science to one's self and society
These and other critical displays show how the eruptions of the last decade caused in days the same geological formations that evolutionary theory sees as taking millions of years.
