Communicating Creation
by John Morris, Ph.D.
Methods by which we can best communicate creation truth continually occupy our thoughts. God has given us a strong body of evidence for creation and the desire to see it impact our lives, churches, and culture. But how to best do so? Should we limit our efforts to universities? Or layman presentations in churches? Or children's workshops? In general, we have decided to do them all, as God provides opportunity. Recognizing that ICR's unique contribution is in scientific research and scholarly debate, and that among creation groups we are best equipped to do this necessary work, we emphasize it, without neglecting the other more popular work.
One very effective method of reaching millions is through mass media. Over the years ICR has had numerous media appearances (some more pleasant than others), and through them all, the word of creation has spread far and wide. Even in hostile interviews, of which there have been many, listeners are made aware that there is another side to the origins issue, and there are many credentialed scientists who hold the scientific evidence for creation far exceeds that which supports evolution. Thus the ranks of creationists swell. Here are some media examples within just the last few weeks.
Beginning with media in ICR's local area, the San Diego Union-Tribune ran a feature article about ICR's Museum of Creation and Earth History. The reporter's interest grew after many hours of touring ICR's headquarters and interviews with me and the other scientists. What started as a "hit piece" became a positive statement generating much local interest. A local NBC affiliate did a follow-up interview with Mrs. Cindy Carlson, museum curator.
Over the years the Christian Broadcast Network has run numerous stories about ICR field research at Grand Canyon and Mount St. Helens. These visually stimulating interviews have been very popular. This spring they sent a film crew to learn about our recent research, see the beautiful museum, and let the scientists tell their story. As a result, a number of features should be run in the future.
Last winter BBC in Britain conducted a number of interviews with ICR scientists and ran them on both radio and TV. This generated great interest in the subject of creation, resulting in lengthy coverage. As reported in last month's Acts & Facts, but just completed as this was going to press, they interviewed ICR's Dr. Henry Morris III and several evolutionists on the rim of Grand Canyon. It provided a wonderful opportunity for Dr. Morris to contrast the two views and show creation's superiority.
The recent National Radio Broadcasters convention in Orlando saw several representatives of ICR attend and showcase the ICR radio programs. During the exposition at the booth they acquainted Christian station operators with "Science, Scripture, & Salvation," the weekly 15 minute broadcast; "Back to Genesis," the one minute daily; and "De Regresso a Génesis," its Spanish version. These programs enjoy wide coverage on hundreds of stations worldwide, yet numerous stations showed interest in adding them to their station programming.
We must keep in mind that the creation/evolution controversy is not just a scientific issue. We feel the scientific evidence strongly favors creation, but the information is to a great extent censored out of the public arena and certainly out of public education. Yet creation thinking is important, relevant to every area of life and society, thus the urgent need to get the word out by any means possible. The issue unfortunately becomes one of propaganda containment and dispersal. Who will reach the impressionable public, especially students?
I can promise you, as long as I am president of ICR we will continue to accept every possible occasion to communicate creation truth. We dare not let any opportunity pass.

AMEN PASTOR ROGER!
Thanks Brother! This is more excellent material to save and study.
Several issues stuck me as I was reading these new posts. First - the absolute certainty that man only knows a tiny amount about life. The ultimate truth is that many things can ONLY be revealed by the CREATOR - ALMIGHTY GOD! Just imagine how much many men will be humbled one day when they stand before their CREATOR for final judgment. After all - HE doesn't exist according to them.
I also found the almost immediate rapid changes from the flood and other natural events to be quite interesting. We can study these things now, and the so-called science used in many theories about aging is nothing but junk. If this is science, it would be from the Three Stooges.
SO, how long does it take for various kinds of geological formations? The answer is "However long GOD wants it to". The forces of nature belong to GOD. I wonder many times if there is Heavenly Laughter at the vanity of man.

Global Warming in the News
by John Morris, Ph.D.
The recent rush to enact legislation addressing "global warming" brings back memories, not all of them good. As has happened several times in the past, dire warnings of impending doom have predicted devastation to the planet, all backed up by pronouncements of scientists. While we recall them, let's remind ourselves that science and the opinions of some scientists are two different things. Often there seems to be a hidden agenda, either financial or political.
Of course, as we learned in last month's Impact article, threats of global warming are not baseless, for there are observations of fluctuations in parameters. Are they normal oscillations or long term trends? Are they due to human activity or natural causes? The best observations and speculations are that they are of natural origin, and the earth will readjust in time.
It reminds me of the time in the 1970s when I was ushered into the inner sanctum of the CIA in Washington, a meeting arranged by a highly placed government official interested in my search for Noah's Ark. I asked for the release of photos of Mt. Ararat's ice cap during a year of extreme snow melt, hoping to see the Ark. According to our government's best intelligence, the earth was heading into a new Ice Age, and ice caps would probably expand for hundreds of years. We were entering into "global cooling," and man was to blame. Some in government wanted to pass legislation to "save the planet" by altering human behavior. Imagine the fix we would be in now if they had succeeded.
In the 1960s a similar scare predicted doom due to human overpopulation. Some wanted to governmentally limit family size, others wanted to eliminate the aged and infirmed. Famine and water shortages were touted as imminent. As before, man was the enemy and government needed to be expanded and empowered. Eventually the cries diminished.
Next came scares of acid rain, nuclear winter, Y2K, etc. Now we have the need for government-funded stem cell research. (Always the cry is for embryonic stem cells to be harvested, which destroys the embryo, not adult stem cells which do no harm to the donor.) In every case man is the culprit and an all-wise, all-powerful government is the solution while fringe science provides the evidence. A political agenda lurks behind it all. Many scientists see through the rhetoric, but they too benefit by government funding of their own marginally related research projects. Always the same big-government groups are behind them.
Let it be known that I am not overly concerned by global warming. I consider the scare as an effort to promote extreme political views. Some would fall under the label socialist, others Marxist, all desiring power vested in the hands of an elite few. The Creator designed the earth well, with built-in feedback mechanisms to handle any crises. There is coming a time, however, when excessive heat will be a problem (see Revelation 16:8-9), and these fluctuations may be a foreshadowing, but that too is in God's hands.

Where Are Dinosaur Tracks Found?
by John Morris, Ph.D.*
Dinosaur tracks and trackways are found in dozens of places worldwide. They are not particularly rare, but still unexpected. Stratigraphically, they are usually found in sediments thought to have been deposited midway through the great Flood of Noah's day, overlying sediments of marine origin. These layers contain a mixture of marine and terrestrial sediments, indicating that the Flood, initially an oceanic event, had begun to inundate more and more of the land, and bury land animals along with the marine.
There seems to be little way to predict where footprints will be found. However, individual tracks and even lengthy trails are usually found near a local stratigraphic "high," where animals fleeing the rising waters could find temporary sanctuary. Evidently some dinosaurs and other creatures avoided being drowned for several weeks into the Flood, and were able to leave their footprints in freshly deposited muds, which must then have been quickly covered to prevent erosion, allowing the host material enough time to harden into rock. These sediment layers were among the last to be deposited, and the tracks were left by some of the last animals still alive.
These easily eroded "ephemeral" markings are a good indicator that the sediments were never exposed on the surface for very long, subject to erosion, or on the sea floor where abundant oceanic life would obliterate them. Each layer is generally recognized to have resulted from a rapid, catastrophic event, and the evidence of little time passing between such events "ties the layers together" into a short, overall, time period (i.e., the Flood).
Recently I visited an unusual dinosaur print location, the roof of an underground coal mine in western Colorado. Remember coal is thought by uniformitarians to be metamorphosed peat which collected in a peat swamp. As the coal is mined away, the undersurface of the overlying (marine) shale is exposed, revealing in some locations dinosaur trails. These are not impressions, but the infilling of impressions which were originally made in the peat.
If peat formed in a swamp, it is reasonable that a dinosaur may have sloshed through it, leaving footprints, but is it reasonable to claim that such a swamp peat could have been submerged under the ocean to receive marine sediments (the shale), and yet undergo no erosion? No, it would be better to conclude major flooding which deposited virtually all the sedimentary layers in a short time.

The Catch in Creation
by Frank Sherwin, M.A.*
When you think of getting your blood pressure taken, you no doubt think of the tight pressure on your arm and the loud ripping noise of the Velcro cuff. Indeed, we've all experienced the benefits of that amazing fabric, Velcro (brand name since 1959). The name comes from the French word velours meaning loop ("vel") and the French word for crochet meaning hook ("cro"). Many wonder just how man was able to progress through the centuries without it. As well as the blood pressure cuff, the more common application of this artificial fabric is in tennis shoes and cloth wallets.
The story of Velcro's discovery is straightforward but is nonetheless a testimony to how God designed His creation -- and what we can learn from it. In 1941, Swiss engineer and mountaineer George de Mestral returned from an afternoon of hunting. He found it difficult to remove cockleburs and thistles from both his clothing and his dog and decided to investigate why this was so. Under the microscope Mestral discovered hundreds of exquisitely designed hooks on these seeds. Upon examination of his pants he found the fabric formed loops perfect for catching the pesky cockleburs. He had his answer, and an idea.
In 1948, Mestral began work on a special locking tape with the help of a local weaver. He discovered that nylon hooks formed under ultraviolet light would latch into tiny nylon loops. With more work Mestral finally sold the rights to his invention and became a millionaire.
There are many examples of how man has looked to the creation for technological inspiration. This has spawned an emerging science called biomimicry -- the idea that nature has perfected millions of manufacturing and design processes that man can imitate.
And imitate he has, from the construction of solar cells based on leaf design to Velcro. In an ironic and sad twist, secular engineers, architects, and designers produce detailed products and inventions they freely admit they copied from nature (biomimicry), yet they insist both these objects and intelligent copiers are the result of millions of years of time, chance, and random mutations requiring no higher Architect!
Natural man gives credit only to the creation ("3.5 billion years of evolution"), rather than the Creator (Romans 1:20).

Geological Provincialism
by William Hoesch, M.S.*
Geologists tend to be very provincial. Rarely do they stand back and look at "the whole canvas" of the sedimentary rock record. When they do, some remarkable things emerge. For example, consider the Tonto Group, a succession of three well-layered formations in the lower part of Grand Canyon. In one of earth's grandest exposures, the familiar triad of Tapeats Sandstone -- Bright Angel Shale -- Muav Limestone can be seen in profile view for nearly the full 200 miles of Grand Canyon.
Geologists generally agree that the Tapeats Sandstone accumulated as coarse sand grains that were washed up on the North American continent as part of the first great "marine transgression" of the Paleozoic. Later the grains were cemented into sandstone. Typically a few hundred feet thick, it grades from coarse sand and pebbles at its base to fine-grained sand at its top. Among the sedimentary "particles" in the basal part of the Tapeats Sandstone are boulders up to 30 feet in diameter that were obviously rolled at a time when the continent was under water. The sandstone is generally unfossiliferous, but peculiar bed markings, interpreted as "worm borrows" (called Skolithos), are ubiquitous in the upper part. Beneath it is a wide variety of Precambrian rocks, which come in contact with the Tapeats Sandstone at an extraordinary erosional surface called the Great Unconformity. If one is looking for the boundary between pre-Flood rock below and Flood strata above, look no further. This is a logical place to put it.
By the way, the rock layer called the Tapeats Sandstone is not restricted to Grand Canyon. The same rock layer in central Utah is known as the Tintic Quartzite; in northeastern Utah it is the Lodore Quartzite; in Wyoming and Montana it is the Flathead Sandstone; in Colorado it is the Sawatch Sandstone; in South Dakota it is the Deadwood Quartzite; in the Midwest it is the St. Simon Sandstone; in the Ozarks it is the Lamotte Sandstone; and in northern New York state it is the Potsdam Sandstone. The confusion of names should not obscure the fact that it is one continuous sandstone layer; the Potsdam Sandstone of the Northeast is unbelievably similar to the Tapeats Sandstone of Arizona, complete with the Great Unconformity at the base and worm burrows near the top!
Lying above the Tapeats Sandstone in Grand Canyon, in succession, are the greenish-colored and iron-rich Bright Angel Shale, and the thin-bedded and silty Muav Limestone. Marine fossils in these rocks include a host of so-called "Cambrian explosion" organisms, most notable of which are the trilobites. In Grand Canyon this succession called the Tonto Group is 800-1,300 feet thick. Tonto Group equivalents, that are also amazingly similar, are found across much of North America and are reported also across wide portions of Canada, Eastern Greenland, Scotland, and South Australia. Such persistence of strata is enough to baffle creationist and evolutionist alike. Picture a sheet of copy paper 0.1 millimeters thick that measures 1 kilometer by 0.6 kilometer, then stack three on top of one another. You then have a picture of how thin these three layers are across the breadth of North America.
A sufficient process is needed to explain such persistence. The Genesis Flood is sufficient.

WOW,
I read through the whole thread of "In the Beginning," and found it absolutely fascinating. I love the topic, and how Bronzsnake explained everything in laymans terms. I love the way he brought out the many lies and assumptions of evolution, the lack of fossil records, the second law of thermodynamics, the DNA proof. I want my older kids to read the thread. I still have three in public school and it never fails they HAVE to study Darwins theory of evolution. My kids speak up and say they don't believe in evolution. So far none of the teachers have had a problem with my kids voicing their opinions, I have tried to explain they can disagree with out being disrespectful. Even though I completely disagree with the theory it is important to me that my kids understand BOTH sides of this. Because it seems to be one of those teaching we all just take for granted, it is taught in schools and so you just believe it. Many Christian adults simple have no idea or have even thought about it,
what we learned in school contradicts the scriptural events
. So for that reason I allow my kids to go through the class, I want them to be able to say, YA well we learned that too but..... so I tell me kids listen answer the test with what the book says but you don't have to believe it. My oldest daughter explained on her essay question how the book claims.... and then explained she didn't agree with it. By understanding the theory they can build their defense against it. I honestly believe the expanding DNA research will eventually blow evolution out of our classroom, that is my prayer.
I had a chance to practice this when I had to take speech class a few years ago. It was for our persuasive talk, I had already given a speech on an important or life changing experience, I talked about Jesus being my savior and about an experience I had with him on a musical tour a few years before. I thought the teacher at least didn't senor us. My persuasive speech was entitled, Should Darwins Theory of Evolution be taught as a scientific truth? I tried to use science to disprove the theory. Many of the points Bronzsnake brought up I also used in my speech. The early DNA evidence is soooo outstanding I can't understand how they can still teach the evolution garbage in the schools. I would like to add some more evidence not mentioned in the thread that I am sure Bronzsnake could explain better. DNA cannot exist with out the protein RNA, one doesn't show up by accident and create the other, I understand they MUST exist together but are two separate sources of protein that coexist at the same time. John Hogan, a scientist put its this way, "DNA cannot do its work, including forming more DNA, with out the help of catalyticproteins, or enzymes. In short, proteins cannot form without DNA, but neither can DNA from without proteins." Which smashes Darwin's theory of one cell evolving into what we are today. Just another little tidbit, If a person could write down all the information encoded on our DNA they would have to have a library with 900 volumes of 500 pages each. There are 200,000 gene in the human body any error in the sequence of the nucleotides makes a gene useless. Its totally out of my capability to imagine how God in is infinite wisdom created the DNA and the RNA each after their own kind.
I have to tell you though, my teacher was VERY upset with me. I ended the speech my explaining that "I would preferr they not teach this theory in school, but since they do then they needed to explain it is ONLY a theory, it lacks proof for it to be considered a fact such as the law of relativity, or thermodynamics which have been proven over and over again. We learned in biology class that a theory is an educated guess, and through a series of experiments and research a theory could be disproven, then a better theory would take its place until it was disproven. A theory is only proven as a fact after years and many many different experiments using different variables and constants. Evolution after all these years has never been proven, but has been disproven but they still teach it as a fact. At the very least our schools should offer other theories." I thought I was done, but then it came to me, God just gave me the words, I said if you claim to be a Christian and you believe in evolution you were making God into a monkey, cause as Christian we believe we are created in his image.
We were to open up the floor for questions, and instead of the students asking me questions. My teacher came at me with both barrels loaded. He tried to blast me with, "What would you say if I told you I know of Christians who believe in Darwin's theory of evolution?" God was with me and I explained they were mistaken, and the bible explains a literal six day creation not six million or billion years. He continued to blast me about micro and macro evolution, again I explained an ape produces an ape, and man produces a man, but NEVER could they mix or you get mutations of the DNA that would destroy the DNA at the very least you would have some kind of proof of this through fossil records and there is none. I didn't have a problem with the micro evolution that the environment, lack of food could cause over a period of time, but I didn't believe we came from apes. God gave me the answers to each of his attacks. My time ran out and none of the students got to ask any questions. He had me stay after class, he explained to me that I should NEVER use something in a speech that I hadn't put on my outline (the outline was made before we gave our speech and he used it for grading, my comment about making a monkey out of God wasn't on the outline). He went on to say he was disappointed in me, and my speech, it wasn't well thought out, lacked research blah blah. About that time a friend of mine came back into the classroom, tears were rolling and she walked up to me gave me a big hug and said she had been taught evolution in Russia, he father was a Dr. with a PhD who worked for the government and he had taught her evolution as the only truth. She had since become a Christian but her Dad with his PhD had taught her as a child to believe in evolution. She was upset she didn't want to make God into a monkey and her tears proved this, she didn't know how to combind what she had learned as a child and what she understood from the bible. She insisted she still believed in evolution, and she didn't like my speech, but my speech had given her much to think about.
God used me that day, maybe just for her, or maybe the whole class, at least she came face to face with the truth that day. My teacher quickly dismissed me because he was due for a another class
, although I was standing in his only classroom. I thought well there goes my grade for this class....but a few weeks later I found out he gave me an A, God had to have caused that by bringing my friend coming back into the classroom, my teacher had already told me he didn't like my speech. God is so good, prefect timing and what a sense of humor,
making a monkey out of God lol.
For those who are interested a HUGE site , two books,
Signature of God
by Grant Jeferries and
Battle For the Beginning
by John Macarthey were some of my sources.

Hi musicllover,
Bronzesnake is no longer with us here on this forum. Perhaps I can help you though. A couple of web sites that I highly recommend for information on Creation vs Evolution are:
http://www.answersingenesis.org/
http://www.icr.org/
Both of these web sites have excellent scientific information and both are based on and compatible with the Bible. I am not familiar with the books that you mentioned so I cannot make comment on either of them. The web sites above does mention a number of books that are of good quality and the one even has a rating on them. Another good book is in the thread "In the Beginning: Compelling Evidence for Creation and the Flood" just below this one.
I think that you did an excellent job of explaining the DNA/RNA problem that evolutionists have.

Brothers and Sisters,
It's amazing how scientists and schools refuse to let go of a few shreds of garbage.
That's all that's left of the theory of evolution. JESUS will probably come before it's totally exposed as nothing but junk and a hoax. In the meantime, more and more scientists by the day are throwing it in the garbage where it belongs.
It really boils down to the devil being given a free shot at GOD and the HOLY BIBLE. The devil used his opportunity with great deception and skill. The whole truth is that many died in their sins because of this evil lie. Darwin was a direct contradiction of GOD, and they can't both be true, so many chose so-called science over GOD. There's a reason why evolution has never been anything more than a theory for all of these years - IT'S JUNK, BUNK, AND LIES! It's never been science, and it's always required much more faith than the HOLY BIBLE to believe. It's all very sad, and the devil used it with great skill to deceive millions.
Love In Christ,
Tom
Matthew 11:25 NASB At that time Jesus said, "I praise You, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that You have hidden these things from the wise and intelligent and have revealed them to infants.

Pastor Roger,
You will find my apology on another board as well, I tried to answer by pm' but found it doesn't work anymore. THANK you for correcting my mistake... I will be looking at the threads you have given me and promise to be more carfeul.
I find the DNA/RNA so interesting if I had enough time in this life I would love to study it further. Thanks so much for the heads up I appreciate you being on top of things.

HI blackeyedpeas its been a while, good to see you are still with the site.
I have to feel some sorrow of this fact, no prayer, evolution, what a good place for the devil to begin his work, on our children. I was shocked to see evolution is part of nearly every grades curriculum 1-12th grades. I'm going to be a teacher, work for the state and enforce what the state says is needed in our states curriculum which includes Darwinism. I had already decided that evolution is one subject I would explain as a theory only and maybe have the students do reports of the other possibilities, explaing other theories and wait for one of my students to suggest the bible account. I am safe as long as the students bring it up, we can talk the other views. If I am asked I can tell them I do not believe in evolution but the biblical view. I will be teaching k - 12 special ed. in a very small school in a town where the Christian view is important and I am blessed to have a Christian (Baptist pastors wife) for a classroom aid so this is something we agree on. Special ed will require me to help in all areas of the students studies, so I may find this a challenge but I want to do what I know Jesus would do. Obey the higher ups but still maintain my faith, and put in a good word for Jesus when I can.

Darwin based his theology on a finch..a bird..He was married to his cousin...they has a daughter who died and he became made at God..here he bases his theology on a bird and gets mad at God...The school system is no to where all opinions are of man not God..in 1962 when prayer was taken out of the school...it opened the door to free expression that has taken God out of everything..A nation that was founded uner God has become over God and because of this...the decline in our nation is not due to God but to man who rejects God and who turns his back until ther is a crisis..Those who say they are mad at God has never known God for they lack the knowledge of His word...and if they knew God...they would know the beginning of knowledge is the fear of God...

Your apology is most assuredly accepted.
You are heading into a very difficult situation with teaching in a public school. It is not one that I envy you. If it were me I would most assuredly be in trouble from the start as i would have to denounce evolution completely.

I have heard many different things about Darwin. Whatever his reasons were it is very apparent that he rejected God from the start.
I agree totally on the public school systems. It is for this reason that I am such an adamant supporter of putting children in a good Christian school or homeschooling them. It is our responsibility as parents to insure that our children are taught the ways of the Lord and should not be contaminating their minds with the garbage that satan wants them to be exposed to.

Amen..Pastor..
My grandchildren attend a christian school....My grand daughter graduated this year..During the graduation ceremony...the seniors were brought together and alll the teachers formed a circle and layed hands and prayed over them....I thank God He provided for my grandchildren to attend a christian school...I have 12 and I constantly pray for them and more so for their parents because it begins not in the school, but in the home...If there is anything I could tell a parent is to live it at home that your children will learn from you and not this world...
