Sammy,

If you liked 1984 then you should read Brave New World by Alduous Huxley. Probably one of the most prophetic science fiction books written.

Two great books that I would recommned that will really bring your closer to God:

  Paryer - Foster
The Purpose-Driven Life - Rick Warren

These books are just amazing!  They are full of some of the most basic truths and simplest ideas presented in new and inspring ways.  They will change you.

Okay, I recently picked up a book called Wild at Heart by John Elderidge.  It is amazing, and it rings true for me in a lot of ways.  Anyway, to guys figuring out how to be real guys, and for women wanting to take a peek inside the masculine soul, I highly recommned this book.

I'm quite fond of the book of Micah.  One of the sweetest passages can be found there:

Quote
"With what shall I come before the LORD,
and bow myself before God on high?
Shall I come before him with burnt offerings,
   with calves a year old?
Will the LORD be pleased with thousands of rams,
with ten thousands of rivers of oil?
Shall I give my firstborn for my transgression,
the fruit of my body for the sin of my soul?"
He has told you, O man, what is good;
and what does the LORD require of you
but to do justice, and to love kindness,
and to walk humbly with your God?

Micah 6:6-8

We note how the lost often try and earn their salvation, yet we often try to earn God's favor.  What does God require of me?  Extreme acts of favor earning?  No.  Simply to do right, love kindness and walk humbly with Him.  That just chills me.

The new Harry Potter book just came out, and we got it, and I can't wait to read it. I have a feeling that it'll be up on my list, too.
