Rebecca St. James Wants God's Truth to 'Empower' Women

(AgapePress) - A popular contemporary Christian recording artist is trying to help women become all that God intends for them to be.
In her new book SHE -- an acronym for "safe, healthy, and empowered" -- Rebecca St. James blasts the feminist movement of the 1960s, which she says has resulted in heartache for millions of women. She encourages women not to fall for unrealistic expectations portrayed by the media and by society.

St. James explains that her book examines nine different areas, "including femininity [and] beauty [and] purpose -- and what the truths are that God has given us in the Bible that can equip us to live as safe, healthy, empowered SHE women."
The music artist contends that when women try to fulfill unrealistic expectations, they get burned out because they are looking for their identity from society -- rather than from God and His Word.
"A lot of young mothers or a lot of single women are involved in their careers and are kind of struggling with the balances of those areas -- or [they're] doing both," she observes. "[This book is] just looking at the women of today and how can we be empowered to be the women that God created us to be."
SHE: The Woman You're Made to Be is published by Tyndale House Publishers and became available this week. In writing the book, St. James teamed up with co-author Lynda Hunter Bjorklund, a national radio show host and former editor of Focus on the Family's Single-Parent Family magazine, to identify the lies of today's culture and to present biblical truths for overcoming them.
