It's a reflection of the higher criticism, and cynicism, like of Darwin, Marx and Frederick Nietzche, that emerged in the 19th century, with man's ambitious and aggressive industrilization - his need for only himself(thus Darwin's eye to only the organism as the be-all and end-all; and Marx's eye to 'the State' and the subsequent wholesale bloodshed that brought about in less than a century; and Nietzche's 'supermen' (the Nazis), and no need for humility or sympathy
(I borrowed the above from the National Geographic thread under Apologetics)
The above just caused me to see, I think, perhaps in a slow, unwinding, that this is it - the Big Enchilada, the Last Hurrah, the Death Throes.
We aren't going to be 'winning' in Iraq. It won't be another Viet Nam. It will be something different.
Even without Prophecy, or Revelation, or Daniel, or the Bible at all generally...
just a common sense estimation of the overall situation should tell us, "hey, this is it".
We're at the end of a grand, productive and ambitious Industrial Revolution - that began several hundreds of years ago.
We're in a new information age now - instant everything.
We've created machines that equally deliver infinite creature comforts, at the same time grinding you horribly up into hamburger(car/industrial/plane/train/boat accidents) - all these inventions focus upon our situation, my situation. That's why we make them.
We are literally building a veritable 'tower of babel' focussed on our creature comforts.
But the point is, it's all about us.
This wholesale focus on ourselves - this narcissism is what has given us all these inventions, which in turn both requires(because of the insatiable appetite for the oil that it craves) and gives us the ability to wage major war over thousands of miles, but even as it has no end - a possible draft, and the predictable shifting on whether we will ever be finished with Iraq, or Terrorism generally, etc.
This is the Big Banana, folks. Even without prophecy, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to extrapolate from the past and present, and to see how this ride is going to end up.
Thanks be to God, and to Jesus our Lord, He has a Plan, and started that plan way ahead of us.
But it should be obvious, this is it. A building discontent, and I think ultimately it's going to center around Israel.
We were attacked in 911 because we support Israel.
