Networks Shortchange the Kids: A Letter to Senators, the FCC & the ANA
We need more family programming in prime-time.
Families cannot allow the networks to drive them away.
Networks must be pressured by viewers who buy products,
from advertisers,
that make commercials,
that have huge corporations,
that join associations like ANA,
that buy air time from networks,
that are telecast during programming,
that must adhere to standards of the FCC,
that are governed by members of the Senate,
that hopefully listen to it's constituents.
Just plain ordinary folks like you & I, are at the top & the bottom of this list.
We are the beginning & the end of this wheel that's out of balance with families.
Putting poorly promoted ABC's LIFE WITH BONNIE'S fate under the microscope
illustrates the failure of networks to nurture the family unit.
Children are profoundly affected by television.
What they learn there will frame their parenting skills for kids of the future.
We need to show kids the best that television has to offer.
That's a huge responsibility, & it falls on the networks!
Dear Senator:
I think you'll agree, if we had more family television in prime-time, the cable issues would not seem as grand. The bottom line should really be the kids. Networks continue to take away their safe havens. Reality shows, sex, & violence have predominated evening programming. Do you really need to wonder why we have so much murder, violence, drug abuse, theft, fraud, & white collar crime? We need to bring this full circle and impress children to be good citizens & fine individuals so they can teach their children the same. Aside from good parenting, & after school community activities, this means more quality family programming that reinforces ethics, & good family values. It's simple, give at least an hour of prime-time back to the kids. Be generous to our future. Maybe adults can have an additional hour of prime-time afterwards.

Dear Ladies & Gentlemen of The Federal Communications Commission:
I am sending you a letter that just I sent to The Association of National Advertisers.
There is so much to lose when family viewers leave prime-time. It is important that you keep a safe place for them.
I'd like to thank Commissioners Michael Copps and Kevin Martin for their stand in asking the TV networks to reinstate the family viewing hour & urge the other commissioners to join Copps and Martin in their stand.
Hopefully, you can all agree to save a wonderful family situation comedy.

A letter to THE ASSOCIATION OF NATIONAL ADVERTISERS
Ladies & Gentlemen at ANA:
Family shows are an endangered species.
Reality shows constantly erode that market.
Family viewers are shying away from network television.
What venues will be left for advertising family products?
We are taking a stand to protect LIFE WITH BONNIE.
Bonnie Hunt was nominated for 2 Golden Globe Awards.
The show has The Seal of Approval of The Parents Television Council.
Your family markets suffer when networks cancel a show of this caliber.
Join us & garner a third season or more for LIFE WITH BONNIE.
It's syndication will afford you many years of fine family programming & advertising opportunity.
Don't lose this chance...
Sincerely,
June Jordan
