Oh that I might kiss the feet of God!

Lord, keep me from the habit of thinking I must say something on every subject and on every occasion.

Release me from craving to straighten out everybody's affairs.

Keep my mind free from the recital of endless details---give me wings to get to the point. I ask for grace enough to listen to the tales of others' pains.

But seal my lips on my own aches and pains---they are increasing, and my love of rehearsing them is becoming sweeter as the years go by.

Teach me the glorious lesson that occasionally it is possible that I may be mistaken.

Keep me reasonably sweet; I do not want to become a saint--some of them are so hard to live with--but a sour old person is one of the crowning works of the devil.

Give me the ability to see good things in unexpected places, and talents in unexpected people.

And give me, O Lord, the grace to tell them so.

Make me thoughtful, but not moody; helpful, but not bossy. With my vast store of wisdom, it seems a pity not to use it all--but Thou knowest, Lord, that I want a few friends at the end.   Smiley

Thanks!  I needed that prayer!

Doing unto others as you would have them do unto you would include not finding your neighbor's biggest fault and then harping on it as if it were your mission.

ROFL!

I had to do some rephrasing to match the sincerity of your prayer   but here it is..."Teach him the glorious lesson that oft it is probable that he being a man may be mistaken"  Grin

When anyone asked my great-aunt how her health was, she'd always say, "Well, I don't like to complain..."

And then she wouldn't continue, even though we knew she was often in pain.

There is much great-aunt and other seasoned christians could teach us about wasting time and energy on complaints ...and time spent in prayer is never wasted!"

Two men were in a car when they had to stop at a red signal light. The man at the wheel did not say anything.

The other man by his side, fuming and complaining, said, "The time we waste at these red lights - why, a man could write a book!"

The driver still said nothing.

Finally the man beside him said, "Didn't you hear what I said?"

"No."

"How come?"

"I was talking."

"Whom were you talking to?"

"I was talking to God," he said. "I've been making it a practice every time I get to a red light to pray for one of my friends. It is wonderful how  many I have time to pray for in this way."
