My shackles are gone, my spirit is free -
Oh praise the Lord He's lifted me.
My sins are forgiven and now I'm free

Hmm.. well I looked on Google, but had no luck. Where did you hear the song, maybe that could give me some sort of lead.

I'm a member of Prison Fellowship - a prisoner has sung the song previously, and wants us to sing it too.  Unfortunately, we cannot discover a copy of the words and tune . . . .

Ah.. I don't suppose he gave you the name, did he/she?

Well, I'll try some other search engines later to see if they produce any results. I'll let you know if I find anything.

Thank you.  Yesterday a man promised to record it on tape and send me a copy (he didn't know the origin either) When it arrives I'll post the full lyrics . . .

We sing this song in our church, in Kinlough Ontario Canada and I sing it in a one person skit that I do, known as "The Bag Lady".  In church we do it as an echo too where the men are encouraged to lead and the women echo, except for the last two lines, and they are song together.

"My Shackles Are Gone"

My shackles are gone
My spirit is free
Oh, praise the Lord
He lifted me,
My sins are forgiven
And now I am free
Oh, praise the Lord
My shackles are gone
My spirit is free.
