I found this recipe in the newspaper the other day.

Soft-Shelled Cicadas

Ingredients:

1 cup Worcestershire sauce

60 freshly emerged 17-year cicadas

4 eggs, beaten

3 cups flour

Salt and pepper to season the flour

1 cup corn oil or slightly salted butter

Directions:

Marinate cicadas alive in a sealed container in Worcestershire sauce for several hours. (Note: You can skip this step and go directly to the egg step instead.)

Dip them in the beaten egg, roll them in the seasoned flour and then gently sauté until they are golden brown.

Yield:

4 main dish servings

Ok, some of that is just out & out disgusting.

Grin   Grin  NateyCakes, we did have food before McDonalds, grocery stores, and frozen food. There was a time when folks actually had to hunt or grow what they ate. You'd be surprised how good some of those things are.

Natey, you need to be taking notes. These recipes could be sold for fortunes.   Grin  By the way, rattlesnake is one of my favorites.

Oklahoma Howdy to Willowbirch,

Sister, thanks for sharing these recipes with us. I think that we need to host a pot-luck and all of the fixin's for some of these folks. I'm not a rattlesnake hunter, but that is a major event in this part of the country. There's plenty for everyone, and it's "finger-lickin', lip-smackin' good."  Grin  UM??, I wonder how many would come.

I found a recipe for Chocolate Chip cookies with cicadas too.
They are supposed to have a nutty taste to them.
