"Earth Day"

I am interested in knowing what others here at ChristiansUnite think about “Earth Day”.
My pastor says it is tantamount to idolatry (worshiping the earth). Would you agree or disagree with his assessment?
As my pastor points out; taking care of our environment is important because God put it in our hands to care for – unfortunately many with radical, humanistic agendas use Earth Day to press their godless ideology on the masses.
I work for a large company (about 10,000 employees) and we recently received a company-wide memo that is plainly “requiring us to celebrate Earth Day and reporting to our supervisors exactly how we are individually supporting it”. In other words, part of our employee assessments will ‘grade us’ on the level of our Earth Day support. It really rubs me the wrong way.
Thoughts?

Do it unto the Lord and with prayer and thanksgiving.
Companies should not be dictating our behavior or what we celebrate and observe or do not.
If the company makes widgets and you are an excellent widget maker then that should be their only concern about you.
However in this day and age all the world has its nose in politically correctness, so if the dictates of the company do not violate God and His Christ, do it with joy as unto Him.

I didn't think it was so much worshiping as simply giving thanks for it or taking care of it (in the 5th grade I made my friend come clean up everybody's yard on Earth Day, like cigarette butts and newspapers, bits of plastic, things like that. She nearly killed me afterwards though, and overthrew me as president of our "club"....ahhh pre-teen politics...)
I don't really get the concept of it...explain for peaches?
PS- Arbor Day next friday

We don't have earth day in the UK, but I know many Christians over here are environmentally aware. Not worshipping the earth but more positively regarding it as God's creation - not man's possession.
Bleh if I could remember more of the ecotheology things I did at university I could write more....but my brain is mush.

I'm in favor of doing our part to take care of the earth. Things like conserving, recycling, etc. are great ideas. However, having something like "earth day" is a little too close to encouraging idolatry, imo.
We are to worship the Creator and not His creation.

It depends on how you celebrate it, justme.
As with many things
Its only idolatry if you choose to make it so - if you're not worshipping the earth on earth day, but instead giving thanks to the creator of that earth and promising to keep the duty mankind was given in respect to the earth, then that is not idolatry. If you see what I mean.

Lets shut down Earth day because pagans celebrate it! Tell your Pastor he is a Genius, judgenot.
While we are at it, lets ban Saturdays all together because that is when pagans meet to worship their Gods sometimes. Lets kill all the cats, too, because the Egyptians worshipped it (I know willow will like that one). Tell your Pastor he can worship the Earth Gods on Earth day is he wants, I will be worshipping God.
Ok, all joking aside, the Pagans are welcome to worship their Gods on Earth Day or Easter or Groundhogs day! It isn’t going to make a lick of difference in my worship life.
Tell your pastor Tibby said it is his choice who he worships on any Earth day.

As much as I love you, brother – sometimes you really let your maturity (or lack there of) shine through. As a matter of fact, my pastor has planted a number of churches over the last 25 years. He is directly responsible for leading hundreds (probably thousands) to Christ. He has a master’s degree in theology, and Christ’s love shines through him and directly affects everyone he comes in contact with. In fact he
is
a genius when it comes to Christ’s word and leading churches.
If you want to take pot-shots at me, be my guest – I occasionally deserve to have my nosed rubbed in some of my less than intelligent comments – but don’t take shots at someone you know nothing about. It makes you sound less intelligent than I believe you are.

You did ask for comments on your pastor's opinion:
