Hi,
I'm getting married in three weeks and I'm having trouble picking a first dance song for the reception. So I thought I would ask all of you for suggestions
Any help would be much appreciated.

My first choice would be "Chicken in the Straw".
My second choice would be "Stuck in the Middle With You".
My third choice would be the theme song to "Jaws".
(As you can tell, I've been married over 20 years, so my outlook is somewhat "bent".)
If you are 'him' you should let 'her' decide. If you are 'her', under no circumstances should you let 'him' decide, otherwise you really may end up with the "Jaws" song...
Actually - what's the name of that song... "Wind Beneath My Wings"
(That would be a song you could dedicate to each other AND Jesus all at the same time.)

I assume you want slow songs. Well, are you a blushing bride, or are you going to get a blushing bride?
Can’t go wrong with Peter Frampton! Frampton is the second most common cause of teenage promiscuity for a reason, after all ;-) “Baby, I love your way” Is by far his best.
“The way you look tonight” with Sinatra is a good one, too. “It had to be you” and “Unforgettable” are good, too, if you are going for a Good Blue eyes song. I would go with “Unforgetable” ESPECIALLY if your band has a Sax player. If not, still a great song, but a good Sax solo in that song just makes the song so great! Guarandamnteed to get you kissed. Of course you are getting married so that doesn’t matter, does it.
If you are looking for a more folkish sound. “Annie’s Song” By John Denver is good.
“Your song” by Elton John has been a favorite of mine since the first time I saw Mulian Rouge.
“When the lights go down” By Faith Hill is good, too, if you want a female vocalist.
If you really want to go untraditional, “Great Romances of the 21st Century” by Taking back Sunday is good. “One thing” by Finger Eleven, another good one.
Songs to avoid: Chicken in the Straw, Stuck in the Middle With You, The Jaws theme, Wind Beneath My Wings

Tibby has some good suggestions
I was going to place a vote for the Lewis Bridal Song, which is a scottish folk song. You dance about with linked arms during it. The last verse is:
Plenty herring, plenty
Plenty peat to fill her creel,
Plenty bonnie bairns as weel,
Thats the toast for Mairi
..
Step we gaily, on we go,
Heel for heel and toe for toe,
Arm in arm and row on row,
All for Mairi's wedding

Broken- I’m sorry, but if we are going with Celtic, I’d have to say “Star of the country down” for the lyrics and music. Lock Lomond would be a close second, purely for melody.
JudgeNot- Hey, don't be hate'n! I'm just trying to save a marraige here!

Ah but can you kick your legs and whirl people about during them?

Ok, you got me there. What is a wedding without that, after all?

So long as you are careful not to end up like a friend of mine....
she was dancing a particularly
enthusiastic
dance during the ceilidh portion of her sister-in-law's wedding, and accidentally flung her husband the length of the room during one step.......
He never danced with her again.
You don't want to end up like that.
Or you could do that Tyrolean dance where the bride dances with her groom standing on his hands on her shoulders and his feet on the ceiling,.

I would prefer a ballad of some sort. Can't really dance to anything else.Just no country or hip hop.
I was kinda leaning towards "Angel" by Sara Mclachlan from the City of angels sountrack. But I'll have to run it by the bride to be first.
Thank you for all your input
