Assam: Another madrasa with suspected terror links under the scanner, two teachers flee after locals express doubt about their identity

As Assam’s state government is waging a crackdown on suspicious madrasas in the state that have ties to banned Islamic terrorist organisations, another madrasa has come under scrutiny with alleged ties to the Bangladeshi terrorist organisation Ansar-ul-Bangla or Ansarullah Bangla Team (ABT). After the demolition of three madrassas in recent weeks, a madrasa in the Goalpura district in Assam is now under the scanner.

The Dargar Alga Madrassa located at Pakhiura Char has been identified by the police for possible terror links, and it could be demolished by the administration. Recently the founder of the Madrasa, Imam Jalaluddin, and two more persons were arrested by police for suspected terror links. Police had found that Jalaluddin had recruited suspected Bangladeshi Jihadis as teachers, and two of them are now absconding.

The teachers had claimed that they are from West Bengal, but local people had doubts about their identities and had asked them to submit their identity documents. But two teachers, Jahangir Alam and Aminul Islam, fled from the area in the night fearing arrest. Locals informed the police about the incident and the police raided the madrasa on August 24, where several incriminating documents were recovered. Police arrested three persons, Madrasa founder Jalaluddin Sheikh, one person Abdus Subahan and another person who has not been named.

UP: Pieces of meat thrown inside temple compound in Shamli district, police hints at sinister plot to disrupt communal harmony

Unidentified persons threw pieces of meat in the compound of a temple in Sikka village of the Shamli district in Uttar Pradesh, sparking tensions in the region. The incident came to light at around 5 am on Friday morning when a woman entered the temple to offer prayers.

According to reports, dollops of meat were hurled at 11 places around Bhumiya Kheda in Sikka village in what appeared as a deliberate attempt to vitiate communal harmony in the region. Officials of the local administration and police reached the spot and ensured that the pieces of meat were removed from the temple premises and the compound was cleaned.

Anger and resentment swept the region as outraged people hit the streets protesting against the desecration of the temple and demanding the arrest of the miscreants responsible for it.

Taliban hold military parade with US-made weapons in Kabul in show of strength

KabulTaliban forces held a military parade in Kabul on Sunday using captured American-made armored vehicles and Russian helicopters in a display that showed their ongoing transformation from an insurgent force to a regular standing army.

The Taliban operated as insurgent fighters for two decades but have used the large stock of weapons and equipment left behind when the former Western-backed government collapsed in August to overhaul their forces.

The parade was linked to the graduation of 250 freshly trained soldiers, defense ministry spokesman Enayatullah Khwarazmi said.

Muslim cab driver charged for attacks on three Jewish men in Brooklyn

A Muslim cab driver from Staten Island, N.Y., has been charged and convicted for a 2018 unprovoked attack against three Chassidic Jewish men in the Borough Park neighborhood of Brooklyn, the city’s district attorney Eric Gonzalez announced on Wednesday.

Farrukh Afzal, 41, was convicted of second-degree attempted assault, third-degree assault and third-degree menacing in a jury trial before Brooklyn Supreme Court Justice Evelyn Laporte, reported Yeshiva World News. He was acquitted of hate-crime charges.

Gonzalez stated that “this defendant’s violent conduct has no place in Brooklyn, where we value diversity and welcome all religions. He has now been held accountable and today’s verdict should send a strong message to anyone who would commit this kind of outrageous and unprovoked attack.”

Police Officer Who Made Antisemitic Comments Will Keep Job, Cleveland Officials Announced

A Cleveland police officer with a history of antisemitic social media activity will not be disciplined by his department, according to a local report.

The internal affairs office of the Cleveland Division of Police (CDP) began investigating Ismail Quran, a former “Officer of the Year,” in June after Canary Mission publicized his antisemitic tweets, including two that said “Let me salute to Hitler the great” and “Scumbag Yahoodi.”

On Wednesday, Cleveland Mayor Justin Bibb and Chief of Police Wayne Drummond said in a joint statement that they are “frustrated and disappointed that no charges can be filed,” explaining that Quran’s actions took place “years before he was hired.” They added that disciplining him is “impossible.”

American nun rescued by US forces after being held hostage for 5 months in Burkina Faso

An 83-year-old American nun, who was kidnapped by gunmen in northern Burkina Faso in April, has been rescued. Many believe her release was part of a U.S. forces’ special operations rescue mission.

Sister Suellen Tennyson, who is from Louisiana and belongs to the Order of the Marianites of the Holy Cross, was released earlier this week, her Order confirmed.

“Yes, it is true! Sr. Suellen has been recovered!” the Marianites wrote on Facebook. “She is now safe and in U.S. custody. We (Srs. Ann & Renée) continue to work with the FBI to facilitate her re-entry process.”

Somalia: At least 20 people killed in food convoy attack
September 3 2022

Terrorist group al-Shabab killed at least 20 people and burned seven vehicles that were transporting food relief in the central Hiran region of Somalia on Saturday morning.

Four trucks carrying goods and three passenger minibuses were set on fire near the remote town of Mahas.

"Passengers were killed, wounded or just narrowly escaped on foot," the region's former governor Abdifitah Hassan Afrah told the dpa news agency. "Families were looking for their loved ones this morning."

The convoy was being reportedly escorted by Somali authorities and African Union peacekeeping troops at the time.

Saudi Arabia investigates video of men attacking orphaned women and girls

Authorities in Saudi Arabia have launched an investigation into a video that showed a group of men beating women with belts and dragging them by their hair at a residential facility.

The footage which began circulating on Wednesday shows a group of men, some of whom appear to be in uniform, chasing women into the courtyard of the facility in the southwestern Asir region of the country.

At several points, men can be seen grabbing women by the hair before their feet and hands are forcibly cuffed. At other points, men wielding what appear to be belts lash out at some of the women, most of whom are wearing black abayas and niqabs which cover the body and face. NBC News was unable to verify the ages or identities of women in the video which was widely circulated on social media.

Judge Sahibzada Naqeeb Shehzad, of Sessions Court Rawalpindi made this ruling despite clear physical and electronic evidence of the innocence of Zafar Bhatti.

No forensic evidence exists for any blasphemy by Zafar Bhatti, in fact every piece of physical and electronic evidence suggests he is innocent.  Zafar Bhatti however was convicted based on an unsubstantiated report declaring his guilt, made by police in the early stages of their investigation.  During that investigation Zafar Bhatti states he was coerced into a false investigation under a brutal police interrogation.

Hamas executes five Palestinians, two for ‘collaborating’ with Israel

Sharia law returns to Afghanistan as Taliban confirms public whippings

Five people, including two women, have been whipped in Afghanistan in the first confirmed public punishment under Sharia law since the Taliban returned to power last August.

A man and a woman were whipped 39 times in front of dozens of local residents before being sentenced to two and six years in prison respectively on Sunday, Taliban officials in Zabul province confirmed.

According to local media. the couple were living together unmarried and engaging in a sexual relationship, which is classed as illegal adultery under Sharia law, a series of strict Islamic laws based on the Quran.
