The Israeli journalist who visited Mecca should be worried

Most non-Muslims have difficulty understanding why they are not allowed to enter Mecca. Israeli journalist Gil Tamary certainly appears to have lacked understanding when he secretly entered the city after covering U.S. President Joe Biden’s recent visit to Saudi Arabia, causing a scandal with potentially important ramifications for Israel-Saudi relations.

The legal prohibition on non-Muslims visiting Mecca is based on a Koranic injunction (Surah 9, verse 28). Since Muslims believe that the Koran is the word of God, no human authority, whether religious or political, can change this ruling. Non-Muslims who enter Mecca are therefore defiling Islam’s most important holy place, as Tamary did.

To complicate matters, Islam has no pope-like central figure. So, even if the Saudis decided to table the issue for the time being, others—such as a “lone wolf” terrorist—perhaps opposed to the Saudi regime, could take up the charge to defend the honor of Islam. Indeed, throughout the history of Islam, individual Muslims and sects have interpreted the Koran as they chose, resulting in insurrections and assassinations that have often threatened Muslim regimes. This means that extremists might try to take revenge against Tamary personally.

An Egyptian woman's brutal killing sparks renewed hijab debate

Egyptians were shocked last month by the brutal stabbing murder of a college student, Naira Ashraf, in front of Mansoura University's gates. The killer was a spurned suitor who has been sentenced to death.

In response, some Islamist clerics made little comment about the nature of the attack, or why a man would feel that murder is an acceptable reaction to rejection. Instead, they blamed the victim, arguing that Ashraf was killed because she didn't wear a hijab. Islamists consider the hijab to be a requirement for Muslim woman.

Suicide bombing in Somalia kills 11 including local official

MOGADISHU, Somalia -- Witnesses say at least 11 people are dead after a suicide bomber blew himself up at the entrance to a government building in southern Somalia.

District Commissioner Abdillahi Ali Waafow was among those killed in Wednesday's attack, the secretary-general of the Marka town administration in the Lower Shabelle region, Mohamed Osmaan Yariisoow, told The Associated Press by phone.

“Minutes after we had concluded a meeting we had at the district headquarters and were on our way out, we found an unknown man approached us and blew himself up," Yariisoow said, adding that the commissioner's bodyguards, traditional elders and women also were killed.

Judge asks for killer who stabbed a student to death for rejecting his marriage proposal to be hanged on LIVE TV in Egypt

An Egyptian court is planning to broadcast the live hanging of a killer who stabbed a student to death when she turned down his marriage proposal.

Mohamed Adel, 21, was found guilty of murdering his Mansoura University classmate Naira Ashraf when she turned him down, with the court sentencing him to death on July 6.

The court has now called for his execution to be broadcast live to deter similar crimes from happening in future.

In its letter to Parliament, the court wrote: 'The broadcast, even if only part of the start of proceedings, could achieve the goal of deterrence, which was not achieved by broadcasting the sentencing itself.'

Chilling footage shows Adel attacking Ashraf outside Mansoura University near the Nile Delta on 20th June.

She was just about to sit her final exams, according to local media.

On Sunday July 24, 2022, at around 6.50pm, a man interrupted the Mass by shouting and hurling insults. A parishioner approached him. In return, the man head-butted him in the face. According to our information, two of his teeth were knocked out.

“He called us hypocrites. He said we were gotcha1ing Christians. He said we were fooling him. Then a rather large man came up to him and told him to leave. The other asked him if he wanted to fight. It was at that moment that the headbutt happened. Others intervened to subdue him.”

Iranian Actress Nazanin Bahrami Reportedly Detained, Whereabouts Unknown

Relatives of Nazanin Bahrami say the Iranian actress has been arrested by undercover police in central Tehran.

Bahrami was one of some 800 women to recently sign a statement denouncing the “systematic” sexual harassment and violence against women in the Iranian film industry and had called for a mechanism to ensure those responsible were dealt with.

Her relatives said Bahrami was returning home in the capital from work when she was surrounded by plainclothes police and taken into custody.

Her whereabouts are not known and officials have not commented on the situation.

SC lawyer Vineet Jindal, who had filed complaint against Ajmer Dargah’s Adil Chishty, gets threat letter warning ‘Sar Tan Se Juda’

On Tuesday night, Supreme Court attorney Vineet Jindal received death threats and requested protection from the Delhi Police. “Allah ka paigham hai Vineet Jindal, tera bhi sar tan se juda karenge jald hi (It’s Allah’s message, Vineet Jindal; we’ll behead you soon)”, an unidentified letter stated.

According to the reports, Jindal seeking protection from the Delhi Police informed them that he received the anonymous letter after he got back home on July 26, at around 8:30 pm. His residence has CCTV, however, those who hurled the piece of paper with the threat on it were not caught by the CCTV.

He took to Twitter to share the letter and urged DCP Northwest to look into the matter. He tweeted, “Today the jihadis threatened to separate me from my body and sent it to my house. This is a threat to my life and my family’s life, and the Delhi Police has already accepted that.”

Haredi Jews denied entry to Jordan

A group of Haredi tourists denied entry into Jordan on Tuesday claim that they were humiliated by the Jordanian border guards, who demanded that they cut off their sidelocks. However, the Israel Airports Authority (IAA), which oversees the Yitzhak Rabin Crossing, claims that group members were “disruptive” and attempted to bring food across the border in violation of a Jordanian ban.

The group was on its way to visit Jebel Haroun, traditionally believed to be the burial place of Aaron the High Priest.

The IAA put out a statement saying that “A group of Haredi Israelis were not allowed into Jordan because of disruptive behavior at the border crossing to Jordan in response to Jordan’s refusal to allow them to bring food with them. Despite warnings by border terminal staff, they decided to take the food with them,” the IAA said.

Muslim randomly stabs train passengers in Germany: He intended to rid Germany of “non-Muslims”

He was trying to rid Germany of all “non-Muslims”: A Palestinian stabbed passengers indiscriminately in an ICE train last year. The media immediately found the 27-year-old asylum seeker to be “mentally ill” – now an investigation has come to a different conclusion.

Turkish imam targets women, says they look like 'walking flesh'

Halil Konakçı, the imam of Melike Hatun Mosque located in Ankara, has targeted women walking on street by comparing them to "meat in butcher shops."

“The streets are like a butcher shop. We're disgusted by seeing flesh now. Why? Don’t these women have fathers, brothers, husbands? Aren't you jealous at all? Don't you ever have a conscience when your daughter or wife go out on the street like that and share a video?” Konakçı said in comments targeting women and implying that they do not wear headscarves and cover their bodies.

Konakçı’s speech stirred a huge reaction on social media, with women’s organizations demanding his dismissal from duty.

Iranian Ministry Announces Ban On The Presence Of Women In Advertising

Iran's Guidance Ministry has told advertising agencies that under the government's tightening of the so-called hijab and chastity law, women are now prohibited from appearing in advertisements.

The ministry sent a letter to agencies over the weekend following the release of a promotional video by the Domino ice-cream company that featured an actress wearing a sweater donning additional layers of clothing while images of ice cream flash across the screen.

At the end of the ad, she is wearing a winter coat and hat and takes a bite of the ice cream.

T.J. Joseph whose hand was chopped off by radical Islamists wins Kerala Sahitya Akademi award

The autobiography of professor T.J. Joseph, whose hand was chopped off by activists of Islamist outfit Popular Front of India (PFI) for alleged blasphemy, has won the Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award-2021.

Joseph's 'Attupokatha Ormakal', a chilling account of the religious extremism and the ordeal he underwent after the shocking incident in his life, shared the award with M. Kunjaman's 'Ethiru' in the category of autobiography.

The award was announced here on Wednesday by K. Satchidanandan, president of the Akademi, and prof C.P. Aboobacker, its secretary. R. Rajashree and Vinoy Thomas shared the award for best novel. Anwar Ali won the award for poetry. Devdas V.M. won the award in the category of short story. Writers Vaisakhan and professor K.P. Sankaran were selected for the Distinguished Membership of the Akademi.

Afghan arrested for stabbing spree in Le Mans with kitchen knife acquired from nearby supermarket

An Afghan national has been arrested by French authorities after attacking several passers-by on the streets of Le Mans on Wednesday, leaving two injured.

The incident took place on Wednesday afternoon at around 2 p.m. local time, when the assailant, believed to be in his thirties, accosted several pedestrians near to Pont du Greffier.

According to French newspaper Le Figaro, the alleged attacker is originally from Afghanistan and obtained the bladed weapon from a nearby supermarket on Avenue de la Liberation minutes before the attack.

Kabul gurudwara comes under bomb attack again

A bomb blast took place in a shop located outside the main gate of the Karte Parwan gurudwara in Kabul on Wednesday afternoon. No injuries or casualties were reported from the site of the blast.

Sources say the bomb had been placed in the shop of a Sikh hakim.

This is the second time that there has been an attack on the gurudwara in about a month. On June 18 this year, two people were killed and three injured after gunmen opened fire on the gurudwara where 25-30 Afghan Sikhs and Hindus had gathered.

The attack, believed to have been carried out by the Islamic State Khorasan Province (ISKP), had damaged the Karte Parwan gurudwara considerably. The Karte Parwan is believed to be the biggest gurudwara in Afghanistan.
