FEATURED ANALYSIS14

2020: The Great State of the Union15

Mark Alexander

President Donald Trump16 delivered his third State of the Union remarks Tuesday evening, which can be read in full here17 or viewed here18. Your Patriot team, near and far, watched the delivery, and we agreed it was the best speech of any during President Trump’s tenure.

As in past years, he honored a remarkable range of guests in the gallery. Most moving in our view was Tuskegee Airman Charles McGee, who just celebrated his 100th birthday and was designated Brigadier General by the President earlier in the day. And Rush Limbaugh, the nation’s most influential conservative pathfinder, who announced this week he has stage four lung cancer, was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom as presented by the First Lady.

Despite the fact that the President’s remarks were about achievements we should all applaud, one could not avoid the scowling face of Speaker Nancy Pelosi behind the podium. She, like her legions on the floor, found little to applaud. It was a remarkable visual testament to the fact that the Democrat Party19 has nothing to offer but a “Hate Trump20” platform, fomenting anger and fear in order to do what they do best — systematically divide and disunite our nation. (More on Pelosi in the epilogue.)

Of course, Senate Democrats delayed the President’s impeachment acquittal vote until today — ensuring his remarks were delivered while under that cloud. However, the President did not mention a word about that disgraceful political charade21, which actually spoke volumes.

What follows are the remarks we think best exemplify the accomplishments of President Trump’s administration since his election. Worth reading are his opening and closing remarks, bookending highlights of what he covered during the speech. His bookend observations exemplify what his administration and the American people have accomplished in just a few years — and what is yet to be accomplished.

President Trump:

“Three years ago, we launched the great American comeback. Tonight, I stand before you to share the incredible results. Jobs are booming, incomes are soaring, poverty is plummeting, crime is falling, confidence is surging, and our country is thriving and highly respected again. America’s enemies are on the run, America’s fortunes are on the rise, and America’s future is blazing bright. The years of economic decay are over. The days of our country being used, taken advantage of, and even scorned by other nations are long behind us. Gone too are the broken promises, jobless recoveries, tired platitudes, and constant excuses for the depletion of American wealth, power, and prestige. In just three short years, we have shattered the mentality of American decline, and we have rejected the downsizing of America’s destiny. We have totally rejected the downsizing. We are moving forward at a pace that was unimaginable just a short time ago, and we are never, ever going back.

"I am thrilled to report to you tonight that our economy is the best it has ever been. Our military is completely rebuilt, with its power being unmatched anywhere in the world — and it’s not even close. Our borders are secure. Our families are flourishing. Our values are renewed. Our pride is restored. And for all of these reasons, I say to the people of our great country and to the members of Congress: The state of our Union is stronger than ever before.

"The vision I will lay out this evening demonstrates how we are building the world’s most prosperous and inclusive society — one where every citizen can join in America’s unparalleled success and where every community can take part in America’s extraordinary rise. From the instant I took office, I moved rapidly to revive the U.S. economy — slashing a record number of job-killing regulations, enacting historic and record-setting tax cuts, and fighting for fair and reciprocal trade agreements. Our agenda is relentlessly pro-worker, pro-family, pro-growth, and, most of all, pro-American. … We are advancing with unbridled optimism and lifting our citizens of every race, color, religion, and creed very, very high.

"Since my election, we have created seven million new jobs — five million more than government experts projected during the previous administration. The unemployment rate is the lowest in over half a century. And very incredibly, the average unemployment rate under my administration is lower than any administration in the history of our country. If we hadn’t reversed the failed economic policies of the previous administration, the world would not now be witnessing this great economic success. The unemployment rate for African Americans, Hispanic Americans, and Asian Americans has reached the lowest levels in history. African American youth unemployment has reached an all-time low. African American poverty has declined to the lowest rate ever recorded. The unemployment rate for women reached the lowest level in almost 70 years. And, last year, women filled 72% of all new jobs added. The veterans unemployment rate dropped to a record low. The unemployment rate for disabled Americans has reached an all-time low. Workers without a high-school diploma have achieved the lowest unemployment rate recorded in U.S. history. A record number of young Americans are now employed.

"Under the last administration, more than 10 million people were added to the food stamp rolls. Under my administration, seven million Americans have come off food stamps, and 10 million people have been lifted off of welfare. In eight years under the last administration, over 300,000 working-age people dropped out of the workforce. In just three years of my administration, 3.5 million people — working-age people — have joined the workforce.

"Since my election, the net worth of the bottom half of wage earners has increased by 47% — three times faster than the increase for the top 1%. After decades of flat and falling incomes, wages are rising fast — and, wonderfully, they are rising fastest for low-income workers, who have seen a 16% pay increase since my election. This is a blue-collar boom. Real median household income is now at the highest level ever recorded.

"Since my election, U.S. stock markets have soared 70%, adding more than $12 trillion to our nation’s wealth, transcending anything anyone believed was possible. This is a record. It is something that every country in the world is looking up to. They admire. Consumer confidence has just reached amazing new highs. All of those millions of people with 401(k)s and pensions are doing far better than they have ever done before with increases of 60, 70, 80, 90, and 100%, and even more.

"Jobs and investments are pouring into 9,000 previously neglected neighborhoods thanks to Opportunity Zones, a plan spearheaded by Senator Tim Scott as part of our great Republican tax cuts. In other words, wealthy people and companies are pouring money into poor neighborhoods or areas that haven’t seen investment in many decades, creating jobs, energy, and excitement. This is the first time that these deserving communities have seen anything like this. It’s all working.

"Thanks to our bold regulatory reduction campaign, the United States has become the number-one producer of oil and natural gas anywhere in the world, by far. With the tremendous progress we have made over the past three years, America is now energy independent, and energy jobs, like so many other elements of our country, are at a record high. We are doing numbers that no one would have thought possible just three years ago.

"Likewise, we are restoring our nation’s manufacturing might, even though predictions were, as you all know, that this could never, ever be done. After losing 60,000 factories under the previous two administrations, America has now gained 12,000 new factories under my administration, with thousands upon thousands of plants and factories being planned or being built. Companies are not leaving; they are coming back to the USA. The fact is that everybody wants to be where the action is, and the United States of America is indeed the place where the action is.”

After his opening remarks, the President did a masterful job of highlighting why America is great and how his administration policies have empowered the American people to restore that greatness — and we are going to make it greater. The administration selected a gallery full of people who illustrate American greatness, and the President highlighted many of his administration’s policies by weaving those successes and objectives together with the story of gallery guests, some of whom can be viewed here: SOTU Gallery Guests22.

Those guests included: Juan Guaido, “the true and legitimate President of Venezuela.” Stephanie and Janiyah Davis from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where Janiyah is stuck in a failing school, though Trump is pushing for school choice to help her. Kelli and Gage Hake from Stillwater, Oklahoma, were there to represent Gold Star Families after Army Staff Sergeant Christopher Hake was killed while serving his second tour of duty in Iraq. Jody Jones from Farmersville, California, lost his brother, who was brutally murdered by an illegal alien. Iain Lanphier from Scottsdale, Arizona, wants to join the Space Force, and he’s the great-grandson of Tuskegee Airman Charles McGee. Carl and Marsha Mueller from Prescott, Arizona, lost their daughter, Kayla, to the brutal jihadi Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi. Deputy Chief Raul Ortiz from Del Rio, Texas, has helped protect America’s homeland for nearly three decades. Tony Rankins from Cincinnati, Ohio, served in the Army in Afghanistan. Due to PTSD, he became addicted to drugs and ended up losing his job, family, and home. He now works in an Opportunity Zone and has overcome addiction, rejoining his family. Robin and Ellie Schneider from Kansas City, Missouri — Ellie was born at 21 weeks, six days, and is one of the youngest premies to survive in the U.S. Amy Williams works full time for the Army and devotes hundreds of hours to helping military families, all while raising her two children as her husband — Sergeant First Class Townsend Williams — serves on his fourth deployment. The Williams Family, of Fort Bragg, North Carolina, were reunited at the Address.

Cue Democrats sitting on their hands, failing to acknowledge most of these grassroots Americans or the administration’s policies that have greatly benefited “Democrat” constituencies.

The President appealed to minorities, highlighting their contributions to America and offering to help them escape the generational entrapment of bad social policies. Again, cue Democrats sitting on their hands.

A few additional parts of Trump’s remarks our editors thought were most noteworthy:

“Following NAFTA’s adoption, our nation lost one in four manufacturing jobs. Many politicians came and went, pledging to change or replace NAFTA … and then absolutely nothing happened. But unlike so many who came before me, I keep my promises. … Socialism destroys nations, but always remember: Freedom unifies the soul. … The only victories in Washington are victories that deliver for the American people. … We must always remember that our job is to put America first. … No parents should be forced to send their child to a failing government school. … If forcing American taxpayers to provide unlimited free health care to illegal aliens sounds fair to you, then stand with the radical left. But if you believe that we should defend American patients and American seniors, then stand with me and pass legislation that would prohibit free government health care for illegal aliens. … The United States of America should be a sanctuary for law-abiding Americans, not criminal aliens. … My administration is also defending religious liberty, and that includes the constitutional right to pray in public schools. … So long as I am president, I will always protect your Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms. … These are warfighters that we have, the best in the world, and they either want to fight to win, or not fight at all.”

Here are fact sheets with more details of the administration’s achievements and proposals:

President Trump closed with these observations:

“As the world bears witness tonight, America is a land of heroes. This is a place where greatness is born, where destinies are forged, and where legends come to life. This is the home of Thomas Edison and Teddy Roosevelt, of many great generals including Washington, Pershing, Patton, and MacArthur. This is the home of Abraham Lincoln, Frederick Douglass, Amelia Earhart, Harriet Tubman, the Wright Brothers, Neil Armstrong, and so many more. This is the country where children learn names like Wyatt Earp, Davy Crockett, and Annie Oakley. This is the place where the pilgrims landed at Plymouth and where Texas patriots made their last stand at the Alamo.”

“The American nation was carved out of the vast frontier by the toughest, strongest, fiercest, and most determined men and women ever to walk on the face of the Earth. Our ancestors braved the unknown; tamed the wilderness; settled the Wild West; lifted millions from poverty, disease, and hunger; vanquished tyranny and fascism; ushered the world to new heights of science and medicine; laid down the railroads, dug out the canals, raised up the skyscrapers. And, ladies and gentlemen, our ancestors built the most exceptional republic ever to exist in all of human history, and we are making it greater than ever before.”

“This is our glorious and magnificent inheritance. We are Americans. We are pioneers. We are the pathfinders. We settled the New World, we built the modern world, and we changed history forever by embracing the eternal truth that everyone is made equal by the hand of Almighty God. America is the place where anything can happen. America is the place where anyone can rise. And here, on this land, on this soil, on this continent, the most incredible dreams come true. This nation is our canvas, and this country is our masterpiece. We look at tomorrow and see unlimited frontiers just waiting to be explored. Our brightest discoveries are not yet known. Our most thrilling stories are not yet told. Our grandest journeys are not yet made. The American Age, the American Epic, the American adventure has only just begun.”

“Our spirit is still young, the sun is still rising, God’s grace is still shining, and, my fellow Americans, the best is yet to come. Thank you. God bless you. And God bless America.”

It was a good evening for President Trump, his administration, and the American people.

But the final image from the evening was that of Nancy Pelosi shredding his speech. According to Pelosi, the remarks were “dirty”: “I tore it up. I was trying to find one page with truth on it. I couldn’t.” Notably, that would include the names of great American Patriots on those pages, living and deceased, and the names of Americans in the gallery — and she denigrated each of them.

Democrats Panic After Iowa33

Thomas Gallatin

With the Democrats’ Iowa caucuses fiasco dragging on into its third day — no official winner has yet been announced — there are clear indications that party leaders are panicking. Longtime Democrat strategist and former Bill Clinton campaign manager James Carville wondered why Tom Perez was still leading the Democratic National Committee. “The polling averages have not been very good the last 10 days and I’ve some pretty good polls that show enthusiasm among Democrats is not as high as we might like it,” Carville observed. “This is not going particularly well so far. And why is Tom Perez still the chairman of the Democratic National Committee? I have no idea. This party needs to wake up.” He added, “I know these donors and they’re not going to give a popsicle to the DNC right now. I can promise you that.”

Carville isn’t the only high-profile Democrat sounding the alarm. David Axelrod, former senior advisor to Barack Obama, bemoaned, “However bad the handling the count has been, the Iowa’s Democratic Party’s handling of the messaging around it has been an abject disaster. It should be taught in classrooms as an example of what not to do in a crisis.”

Then there’s the growing specter of election malfeasance34, which will only further complicate the DNC’s future efforts of getting its base to coalesce around the party’s eventual nominee, let alone gin up voter enthusiasm.

Speaking of coalescing, the divide within the party between hard-left socialists and non-socialists has Carville even more concerned. “I mean, I’m 75 years old. Why am I here doing this? Because I am scared to death, that’s why,” he complained. It’s more than an image problem, Carville argues. “All the Sanders people were taking pictures wishing Jeremy Corbyn the best. … The press corps went AOC crazy. … We got to decide what we want to be. Do we want to be an ideological cult or do we want to have a majoritarian instinct to be a majority party? … The urban core is not going to get it done. What we need is power. You understand? That’s what this is about. Without power, you have nothing. You just have talking points.”

Back to Iowa, Joe Biden may be in real trouble. It appears that he will have mustered only a fourth-place finish and is likely to see a repeat of that in New Hampshire. The clear frontrunners are now Bernie Sanders and Pete Buttigieg, though both candidates have significant issues garnering broad appeal. While Sanders, with his pie-in-the-sky socialism, appeals to college youth, he struggles in attracting the 40-plus crowd (the segment that proves most faithful in voting). Buttigieg’s homosexual-minority status appeals to women, yet he glaringly lacks support among racial minorities. This may explain why Michael Bloomberg is now doubling his ad spending — he sees an opening to exploit.

Final observation: It looks like the Democrats’ impeachment gambit is blowing up in their faces. Thus far, impeachment has only succeeded in damaging Biden and bolstering President Donald Trump. The latest Gallup poll35 has him at 49% — his highest approval rating since he took office. And it’s not just Trump who’s up; the Republican Party as a whole has seen its favorability rating rise to 51% from 43% in September. Meanwhile, just 45% of Americans have a favorable view of Democrats, which is down from 48% in September. With numbers like this it’s little wonder that Carville is “scared to death.”

A (Carter) Page Turns in the Annals of the Deep State36

John J. Bastiat

Last week brought news that former Trump campaign adviser Carter Page has filed suit in federal court against Perkins Coie, the Democratic National Committee (DNC) law firm, and a number of others responsible for catalyzing the FBI’s unconstitutional witch hunt against Page. Recall that justification for the surveillance warrant executed against Page was based on the now-infamous “Steele dossier.”

Alluding to the Steele dossier, the lawsuit states the defendants “used false information, misrepresentations and other misconduct to direct the power of the international intelligence apparatus and the media industry against [Page] to further their political agenda.” The suit further alleges, “Defendants leveraged these fabrications within the FBI and the United States Department of Justice, leading these agencies to present false applications to the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court (‘FISC’).” Yep, that all sounds about right.

Page’s attorneys stated that this initial suit is merely “the first of multiple actions in the wake of historic” Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) abuse and that it “is a first step to ensure that the full extent of the FISA abuse that has occurred during the last few years is exposed and remedied.” Page attorney John Pierce further explained, “Defendants and those they worked with inside the federal government did not and will not succeed in making America a surveillance state.” Pierce added, “This is only the first salvo. We will follow the evidence wherever it leads, no matter how high.”

Setting aside for a moment the question of whether Page has a hope-in-hell chance of succeeding in court against those infesting the very core of the deep state, we applaud this valiant attempt nonetheless. That said, the battle will most certainly be uphill. For instance, we recently reported37 about the appointment of former Obama-era Justice Department official David Kris to “clean up” these matters, by the FISC’s new presiding judge, James Boasberg. The Reader’s Digest version of that report: Kris is a feckless shill. As House Intelligence Committee Ranking Member Devin Nunes (R-CA) summarized: “The FBI lied to the FISC, and to help make sure that doesn’t happen again, the FISC chose an FBI apologist who denied and defended those lies. The FISC is setting its own credibility on fire.”

To think this kind of thing is a fluke or happens rarely is to completely misapprehend the magnitude of the deep-state problem and threat. A more accurate picture derives from contemplating the chilling prospect that, but for Donald Trump’s wrench-in-the-gears upset of presidential-heir-apparent Hillary Clinton’s enthronement, the most sophisticated intelligence and state law-enforcement agencies on the planet would still be arrayed against any and all enemies of the deep state. As it stands, although progress has been made, the war against the deep state is far from over and the winner — republican government or the deep state — has yet to be determined. And make no mistake: At-risk sleazy shadow-lurkers will pull out all the stops to ensure the truths behind their motives and acts never see the light of day in a court proceeding.

A bellwether in determining which side has the upper hand in this battle thus far is to observe whether Page’s suit reaches the “discovery” stage of proceedings, because it is this stage in which both sides are compelled to disclose a great deal of information in preparation for the trial. “Discoverable” information could include, for example, emails evidencing the DNC’s intent and acts regarding the Steele dossier, as well as a host of communications between the entities coordinating the conspiracy against Page and other targeted parties. In other words, the discovery stage is a powder keg waiting on a spark. Whether the keg’s fuse is lit or water is thrown on it will ultimately be determined by the relative strengths of the sides in this battle. For our part, of course, we’re hoping for fireworks.

Barr Defends Religious Liberty Against Militant Secularists38

Louis DeBroux

No man in America today is more hated by progressive secularists than President Donald J. Trump, but, arguably, no man is more feared by them than Trump’s attorney general, William Barr. Why? Because, after decades of attacks on religious freedom, progressives have an intelligent, articulate, determined foe in Barr.

Last October, Barr infuriated the secular Left when he called them out, asking, “Among the militant secularists are many so-called progressives. But where is the progress?”

Lack of progress is bad, but regression is worse. As Barr pointed out, “The secular project has itself become a religion39, pursued with religious fervor. It is taking on all the trappings of religion, including inquisitions and excommunication. Those who defy the creed risk a figurative burning at the stake — social, educational, and professional ostracism and exclusion waged through lawsuits and savage social-media campaigns.”

But this is no accident, says Barr. Speaking to Cardinal Timothy Dolan last week, Barr argued, “Today, religion is being driven out of the marketplace of ideas and there’s an organized militant secular effort to drive religion out of our lives. … To me the problem today is not that religious people are trying to impose their views on nonreligious people; it’s the opposite. It’s that militant secularists are trying to impose their values on religious people and they’re not accommodating the freedom of religion of people of faith.”

That is undeniably true40.

In a New York Times hit-piece on Barr, Katherine Stewart is furious that Barr is using the power of the Justice Department to restore equality under the law for churches and religious institutions. She complains about DOJ lawsuits over denial of federal funding for religious schools, even when providing the same services as secular schools receiving taxpayer funds — an unconstitutional discrimination against religion.

Like so many progressives, Stewart’s words drip with contempt and derision for people of faith. She uses scare quotes when referring to “religious liberty” and “religious freedom,” claiming those phrases are “rhetoric of today’s Christian nationalist movement.” Stewart references the First Amendment’s clause forbidding Congress from establishing a national religion, yet she completely omits the critical end of that clause, which states “…or prohibiting the free exercise thereof.”

It has been popular in recent years for secular progressives to rewrite the religious history of the United States, claiming essentially that the Founders tolerated religion so long as it did not exercise any power or influence in the realm of government. Some even falsely paint the Founders as men who were mostly agnostic or even atheistic.

Such claims could not be further from the truth. Most of the Founders were men of deep Christian faith. Even the two men commonly noted as the least religious of the Founders, Benjamin Franklin and Thomas Jefferson, were highly laudatory of Christianity.

In June 1777, with the Constitutional Convention crumbling before his eyes, it was Franklin who gave a speech calling for daily prayers in the convention, for “God governs in the affairs of men. And if a sparrow cannot fall to the Ground without His notice, is it probable that an Empire can rise without his Aid?” The following year, Franklin wrote to the French ministry, declaring, “Whoever shall introduce into public affairs the principals of primitive Christianity will change the face of the world.”

As for Jefferson, while rejecting what he saw as perversions of Christ’s doctrine by religious leaders, he created a book comprised solely of the words of Jesus from the Bible, declaring it the most “beautiful or precious morsel of ethics” he’d ever seen, and “a document in proof that I am a real Christian, that is to say, a disciple of the doctrines of Jesus.” Doctrinal debates aside, again, that is highly laudatory.

Attorney General Barr, in his speech, referenced a quote from another Founding Father, John Adams, who said, “Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.”

It is no accident that freedom of religion was the very first of all liberties enumerated in the Bill of Rights. In coming to the defense of religious liberty against the attacks of the anti-religious, progressive secularists, AG Barr has joined the pantheon of America’s most noble leaders in securing the blessings of Liberty for ourselves and our posterity.

Twitter Democrats Are Most Extreme Leftists41

Thomas Gallatin

Twitter-using Democrats are more likely to hold hard-left and less tolerant political views than their non-Twitter-using compatriots, a recent study42 from Pew Research Center concluded. Twitter-using Democrats were also less inclined to find common ground with Republicans than Democrats not on Twitter. The survey found that 45% of Twitter Democrats supported presidential candidates running on an extreme leftist platform as compared to 34% of non-Twitter Democrats.

“A breakdown of support for Democratic nominees also shows distinctions between supporters on Twitter versus those who are off,” National Review reports43. “Former vice president Joe Biden — who polls well among older demographics — has the largest support of those off Twitter with 26 percent, while progressives Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren receive high levels of on-Twitter support with 29 percent and 21 percent, respectively.”

Furthermore, the study noted that 74% of leftist Democrats from the ages of 18 to 49 had participated in some type of political activism on social media — more than twice the percentage of conservatives. Unfortunately, much of the mainstream media looks to social media as a barometer for determining Americans’ political opinions, which might explain why predictions for the 2016 election were so wrong. The lesson here is that of the squeaking wheel — it may get most of the attention, but that’s because it’s messed up. A few loud mouths on social media don’t define a nation.

Wishing Black History Weren’t ‘Black’44

Grassroots perspective by Willie Richardson

It’s about that time of year when pictures of prominent black inventors, physicians, abolitionists, and judges are displayed in the hallways of schools and churches. The month where black people feel a certain way about themselves. A time when black celebrities and athletes pay homage to the person who broke color barriers in their field of sports and entertainment. As a child, I remember there were three people you would definitely hear about during Black History Month: Dr. King, Malcolm X, and a tie between either Rosa Parks or Harriet Tubman. From “I Have a Dream” to not giving up a seat on the bus to a white man.

Unfortunately, Black History is ghettoized from mainstream American history. Segregation still exists within the present day “Black History” celebration. It’s not the separation of color and history, but an apartheid of context and history. History does not see color, yet this is the way our schools and churches investigate it. Must we continue telling history from a hue perspective instead of a human one?

First, let’s examine the origins of Black History Month. It was known as African American History Month, which came from “Negro History Week.” Historian Carter G. Woodson created this brainchild along with other prominent African Americans. In 1926, national Negro History Week was always the second week of February to celebrate the birthdays of Abraham Lincoln and Frederick Douglass. Isn’t that something?

This entire Black History Month “celebration” was centered between a white Republican president and a black Republican abolitionist. Even the NAACP was founded on February 12, 1909, the centennial anniversary of the birth of Abraham Lincoln.

As it relates to history, you cannot celebrate Lewis Latimer without including Thomas Edison. You cannot teach about Robert Peary and the North Pole without including Matthew Henson, an explorer of the North Pole. You cannot celebrate Colonel Charles Young without including Major John J. Pershing and the Punitive Expedition. You cannot celebrate Frederick Douglass without appreciating the contributions of William Lloyd Garrison.

Black History Month disconnects American history, culture, and ideals, and, worst of all, it disconnects blacks from whites.

This nation has witnessed the blood, sweat, and tears of both whites and blacks and that story should be told as one. I wish Black History weren’t “black” but a call to freedom, excellence, triumph, and hope. These ideals have no color; they are American. Welcome to American History.

SHORT CUTS61

For the record: “Trump stands accused, in essence, of making substantive U.S. foreign policy decisions based on his desire to be reelected president. No president has ever been impeached for this.” —Paul Mirengoff

Pretty much: “I felt that the House managers really took our Constitution, threw it on the ground, drove a bus over it, then for good measure backed up over it again.” —Sen. Joni Ernst

Nailed it: “We saw Nancy Pelosi ripping up a speech just like Adam Schiff and Nancy Pelosi and others have been trying to rip apart America for the last three years.” —Rep. Mark Meadows

Pretty dumb, ain’t it? “The same Democrats who want to take over everyone’s healthcare and micromanage the entire economy couldn’t even organize their own traditional Iowa caucuses?” —Mitch McConnell

Friendly fire: “The Democrats can’t even get a three-car funeral organized or whatever you want to call it.” —MSNBC’s Chris Matthews on the Iowa debacle

Race bait: “The Iowa caucus is essentially the perfect example of systemic racism. Ninety-one percent of the voters in Iowa are white. The reason why you see a drop in turnout, I’m just speculating here, it could be perhaps that white children are not in the cages. So when you’re talking about the tangible pain that black and brown people are feeling, they feel a sense of urgency because their kids are being put in cages, right? So if you have 91% white electorate, that sense of urgency may not be reflected in the turnout numbers. I’m not saying that’s the reason for this. It could be a factor.” —MSNBC’s Zerlina Maxwell

Braying jenny: “The manifesto of mistruths presented in page after page of the address tonight should be a call to action for everyone who expects truth from the President and policies worthy of his office and the American people. The American people expect and deserve a President to have integrity and respect for the aspirations for their children.” —Nancy Pelosi in a statement following the State of the Union, which she tore in half at its conclusion

Braying jackass: “This was a state of the base speech, not a state of the union speech. The state of the Trump base is strong. The state of the union is deeply divided.” —CNN’s Jim Acosta

And last… “It really is remarkable how many reporters, not just pundits, have been praising Pelosi for several months as a strategic genius and the only thing she’s done is gotten the President’s approval rating to a record high.” —Erick Erickson
