FEATURED ANALYSIS12

Dems’ Iowa Caucus Comedy13

Thomas Gallatin

And the winner of the Iowa Democrat caucuses is… President Donald Trump. That’s right, no Democrat Iowa victor is known following Monday’s debacle. After touting their “transparency” rule changes and a new app that was supposed to deliver voting results with greater efficiency and accuracy, Democrat Party officials were left Monday night bumbling for answers amidst a sea of confusing reports, a dysfunctional app, and caucusing numbers that didn’t add up. One thing’s for certain — they’ll have a hard time blaming the Russians for this mess.

The official start to the Democrat presidential primaries couldn’t have gotten off to a worse start. The party claiming to know how best to lead the country into the future couldn’t even run its own first state caucus without things falling into disarray. After witnessing this disaster, who would trust these clowns with running a circus, let alone the country? Seeking to put the best spin on this embarrassment, Democrat Party leaders offered concerns over “quality control” and “an abundance of caution” as the excuse for delaying the results. Ironically, no matter who ends up being declared the winner, the DNC has effectively invited the very charge Chairman Tom Perez was seeking to fend off: accusations of a rigged system that erupted in 2016 after the DNC shenanigans favoring Hillary Clinton over Bernie Sanders came to light.

From what little information has been gleaned from precinct reporting, it appears that both Sanders and Pete Buttigieg had strong showings, followed by Elizabeth Warren. It also appeared that support for Joe Biden was weaker than expected, particularly notable given the time he had to campaign there while his rivals were stuck in a Senate impeachment trial. Could Biden’s poor showing be the real reason for the delay? Perhaps the “quality control” is that Sanders actually won and party officials are panicking.

The most telling statistic of the evening was the turnout. Around 172,000 Iowans showed up, which is nearly the same as the 2016 turnout and significantly less than the 2008 number of 240,000. It’s an ill omen for Democrats if voter enthusiasm isn’t as high as they need it to be to defeat Trump in November.

Meanwhile, the Republicans’ Iowa caucuses went off without a hitch. Trump easily won 97% of the vote, with the remaining 3% split between Bill Weld and Joe Walsh. Thus, as Turning Point USA’s Charlie Kirk quipped, “Donald Trump became the first president to win both the Democrat and Republican caucus.”

Final Countdown to Acquittal14

Nate Jackson

With President Donald Trump’s State of the Union Address set for tonight at 9:00 p.m. Eastern time, Democrats managed to accomplish one thing: They drug out the Senate impeachment trial to delay acquittal until after his speech.

Nevertheless, acquittal is a foregone conclusion, as it has been since the House was still suffering through Adam Schiff’s bad acting. After insisting that their charade was both important and urgent, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi delayed sending the articles of impeachment to the Senate for weeks, making plain to all but the blindest partisans that this was a farce from the beginning. Democrats failed to make their case that Trump’s behavior — poor and ill-advised though it was — did not rise to an impeachable offense, and they were thus never going to win enough Republican votes for conviction and removal.

In fact, while Mitt Romney and Susan Collins are the only Republicans reportedly considering conviction, three Democrats — Joe Manchin, Doug Jones, and Krysten Sinema — are all weighing acquittal. “Never before in the history of our republic has there been a purely partisan impeachment vote [against] a president,” Manchin said. “Removing this president at this time would not only further divide our deeply divided nation but also further poison our already toxic political atmosphere.” Manchin has instead pushed for censure.

It will be amusing if the only bipartisan side in the Senate, as with the House, is Trump’s.

Monday’s closing arguments didn’t move the needle one iota. Perhaps that’s because Schiff can’t help but be so over the top. “Trump could offer Alaska to the Russians in exchange for support in the next election,” Schiff warned, “or decide to move to Mar-a-Lago permanently and let [son-in-law] Jared Kushner run the country.” Again, we’d laugh if this weren’t so serious an abuse of power by congressional Democrats.

White House counsel Pat Cipollone reiterated, “At the end of the day, this is an effort to overturn the results of one election and to try to interfere in the coming election that begins [Monday] in Iowa.” And continues today in Iowa because Democrats bungled that, too.

After acquittal, Democrats promise15 to continue investigating, probing, and obstructing the president. “Hate Trump16” is all they’ve got.

Growing Transgender Political Power17

Lewis Morris

The Rainbow Mafia is following a tried-and-true leftist tactic in its war on American culture by going after the young and impressionable. And it has found some willing allies in the fight.

Just last week, Democrat presidential candidate Elizabeth Warren declared18 that she would only nominate a secretary of education who was prescreened by a “young transgender person” to demonstrate that the nominee could create a “welcoming environment, a safe environment, and a full educational curriculum for everyone.” This was in response to a question about how she would address the lack of “LGBT” history and sex education in public schools.

In other words, a presidential candidate has just admitted she is going to turn to a minor who suffers from gender dysphoria — and child abuse at the hands of his or her parents — for advice in filling one of her cabinet positions. Warren also pledged recently that she would fill half her cabinet with women and “non-binary people.” So much for choosing someone based on qualifications. Then again, if the Democrat primary process keeps going in the direction it has been recently, Warren won’t have to worry about choosing any cabinet members.

Also on the side of the Rainbow Mafia is the American Library Association (ALA), which has thrown its full support behind the so-called Drag Queen Story Hour. This initiative is specifically designed to expose young children to the LGBT lifestyle and indoctrinate them to the leftist worldview.

Drag Queen Story Hour19, which is exactly what it sounds like, began in San Francisco in 2015. It features men dressed up in bawdy female attire reading stories in libraries to children ages 3-8. The stories frequently feature gender-confused characters and are supposedly designed to explore “gender fluidity” through “unabashedly queer role models.”

The ALA fully supports the program and is encouraging its spread through its nationwide network. A spokeswoman stated that the ALA “strongly supports the rights of libraries to host whatever programming they decide fits the needs and interests of their communities.” Unless, of course, that program doesn’t comport to woke social standards, in which case, gird your loins for battle.

Exposing children at that young age to quack concepts like “gender fluidity” in a highly sexualized setting is nothing short of child abuse, and parents in several communities are fighting back. The ALA and the groups that have supported Drag Queen Story Hour have pushed the narrative that it has grown organically and is in demand around the country. Nothing could be further from the truth. The story hours have been backed by corporate and ALA funding to launch pilot events in libraries around the country, not at the request of local communities as they frequently claim. It is coordinated and well funded.

The good news is that pushing back works. The Family Policy Alliance20 and the Child Protection League21 have helped organize protests in several cities and several public libraries and bookstores have been forced to cancel events that aim to sexualize and indoctrinate young children. Parents need to know what is being taught to their children, because there is a concerted leftist effort to use these programs to split up families and convert children into the next generation of useful idiots. Don’t let it happen.

But just as a reminder: Whoever wins the presidential election in November will choose the next secretary of education. That’s not story time; it’s time for action.

100-Year-Old WWII Vets Honored at Super Bowl Coin Toss22

“Four 100-year-old World War II veterans were honorary captains for the Super Bowl. Fitting, for the finale of the NFL’s 100th season. The men participated in the coin toss before the game on Sunday in Miami between the Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers.”

“Colonel Charles E. McGee, did the official flip, joined by Staff Sergeant Odón Sanchez Cardenas, Lieutenant Colonel Samuel Lombardo and Corporal Sidney Walton.”

“This year marks the 75th anniversary of the end of World War II. McGee is a former Tuskegee Airman who flew 136 flights over Nazi Europe, and then served in Korea and Vietnam.”

SHORT CUTS42

Insight: “Powers once assumed are never relinquished, just as bureaucracies, once created, never die.” —Charley Reese (1937-2013)

For the record I: “The party that wants to take over your healthcare and economy could not even kick off their presidential election season with competence. Perhaps whoever planned their impeachment charade planned the caucuses. What a waste of time.” —Erick Erickson

For the record II: “The party that thinks the Russians are stealing elections did a hell of a job running their election last night. Who needs the Russians when you have Team Clinton hacks building apps.” —Erick Erickson

Observations: “It’s completely unsurprising that the party that invented the collusion hoax, the whistleblower hoax, and the hoax impeachment ‘crimes,’ invented an election app that crashed on the day of the election.” —Dan Bongino

Belly laugh: “Have we tried unplugging Iowa and plugging it back in?” —Casey Mattox

Alpha jackass: “Ask yourself this simple question: Is the world a better place or a worse place with Rush Limbaugh in it?” —religious scholar Reza Aslan on Rush’s announcement of advanced lung cancer

Braying jackass: “I do not ask you to convict him because truth or right or decency matters nothing to him, but because we have proven our case and it matters to you. … You are decent. He is not who you are.” —Rep. Adam Schiff

Grand delusions: “If abuse of power is not impeachable … then a whole range of utterly unacceptable conduct in a president would now be beyond reach. Trump could offer Alaska to the Russians in exchange for support in the next election or decide to move to Mar-a-Lago permanently and let Jared Kushner run the country, delegating to him the decision whether to go to war. Because those things are not necessarily criminal, this argument would allow that he could not be impeached for such abuses of power.” —Adam Schiff

And last… “Donald Trump became the first president to win both the Democrat and Republican caucus.” —Charlie Kirk
