PUBLISHER’S NOTE
August Break Next Week
Fortunately, Congress has adjourned for its August recess, though the din of the Beltway Demo/Leftmedia rancor1 will take no holiday. Because The Patriot Post operates on a very tight budget, both in terms of manpower and financial resources, our content and quality would suffer if we were a man down for many weeks throughout the year in order to provide individual staff leave time. Thus, as we all need a break from the rigors of relentless publishing deadlines, we pause our operations for a week in August so all of our editorial staff can take the same week off.
Of course, our Right Opinion2 and Top Headlines3 sections will be updated throughout the coming week, and our Patriot Humor edition will be delivered on schedule Monday, and you’ll hear from Mark Alexander Wednesday. (If you’re not subscribed to Patriot Humor or Alexander’s Column, log in to your account4 and select those options.) We’ll be back on our regular publication schedule on Monday, Aug. 12.
THE FOUNDATION
“When Men are employ’d they are best contented. For on the Days they work’d they were good-natur’d and chearful; and with the consciousness of having done a good Days work they spent the Evenings jollily.” —Benjamin Franklin (1771)

IN TODAY’S EDITION
U.S. economy remains strong, so leftists attack it.5
Another report debunks the idea of pervasive racism among police.6
Daily Features: More Analysis7, Columnists8, Headlines9, Opinion in Brief10, Short Cuts11, Memes12, and Cartoons13.
IN BRIEF
Strong Economy Continues as Dems Warn of Collapse14
The jobs numbers for July indicate that the country is continuing to enjoy a robust economy. The number of jobs added hit Wall Street’s expectation at 164,000. That’s not a massive number, though with the labor force hitting a record 163.4 million, many economists see it as an indicator of the economy nearing full employment. Another good indicator for the current healthy economy is wage growth15, which has now risen 3.2% over last year. That number slightly beats expectations of 3.1%. Finally, the U6 rate (real unemployment) has dropped to 7%, the lowest since December 2000.
Meanwhile, the trade war with China (that Trump didn’t start16) shows little sign of ending anytime soon, as Beijing’s puppet North Korea this week launched more test missiles. President Donald Trump responded by slapping a new 10% tariff on $300 billion worth of Chinese goods. The Federal Reserve then cut interest rates by a quarter of a percent, a measure aimed at ensuring the U.S. economy maintains its current strength through this trade war. Clearly, China aims to wait out Trump, in the hopes that he will lose in 2020. Trump is tightening the screws in the meantime.
Speaking of the election, Joe Biden seems to have been asleep these last two years, as he declared on Thursday that “the economy as well as the soul of this country is collapsing because of this presidency.” But Biden is not the only Democrat presidential candidate out deriding the economy. Sens. Bernie Sanders, Kamala Harris, and Elizabeth Warren have all claimed that Trump and Republicans are leading the country to certain economic disaster.
However, the “solution” Democrats are offering — a Big Government socialist takeover of the economy — is the opposite of what most Americans want or need. A recent Rasmussen/Harris poll found that the “Majority of Americans Believe Big Government Is the Only Factor Holding Economy Back,” reports17 The Washington Free Beacon. In fact, even Big Labor is warning Democrats not to assume it has union workers’ support, which is indicative that workers see Trump’s economy as pretty good and Democrats push to import an endless supply of cheap, illegal labor as being in direct conflict with their own economic interests.
If the economy continues at its current strength under Trump’s leadership, he will be difficult for any Democrat presidential contender to unseat. Democrats know this, which is why they are hoping for the very economic collapse18 they are so loudly warning against.

No Epidemic of Racist Cops19
Democrat presidential candidates aim to placate the “social justice” crowd by regurgitating the false “cops are racist” narrative, as well as advance their plans to bring about “real” criminal-justice reform. (Because, evidently, the reform President Donald Trump spearheaded20 won’t do.) Joe Biden claims that blacks will finally be able to “walk the streets of America” without fear of being harassed — or even worse, shot — by the police. Pete Buttigieg once noted the equitable idea that all lives matter only to later walk it back by asserting that the country needed to “move policing out from the shadow of systemic racism.” Beto O'Rourke has also parroted the anti-police talking point, arguing that the reason cops shoot blacks is “solely based on the color of their skin.”
The Left’s narrative is as devoid of logic as it is of facts. A recent study published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences provides yet more evidence that contradicts the popular smear that white police officers are more likely to shoot black suspects than white suspects. In fact, the data makes a case for just the reverse. We must’ve missed the White Lives Matter protesters.
This latest study comports with earlier studies that have also found no evidence of rampant systematic racism against blacks within law enforcement. But facts aren’t likely to deter the Democrat presidential hopefuls. They insist on promoting racial identity-based policing reforms based on the false idea that matching the composition of police departments to the racial diversity of their communities will produce “better” police.
In fact, it has proven detrimental. As the Manhattan Institute’s Heather Mac Donald explains, “This effort to increase minority representation will not reduce racial disparities in shootings, concludes the PNAS study, since white officers are not responsible for those disparities; black crime rates are. Moreover, lowered hiring standards risk bad police work and corruption. A 2015 Justice Department study of the Philadelphia Police Department found that black officers were 67 percent more likely than white officers to mistakenly shoot an unarmed black suspect; Hispanic officers were 145 percent more likely than white officers to mistakenly shoot an unarmed black suspect. Whether lowered hiring standards are responsible for those disparities was not addressed.”

The irony, of course, is that the more Democrats promote this law-enforcement smear, the more they end up hurting the very communities most plagued by violent crime. Just look at Baltimore21.

Correction
In yesterday’s article titled “California’s Voter Suppression22,” there’s an important distinction that we failed to make. California’s law is specifically directed to the primary ballot, not the general-election one, which renders discussion of the Electoral College largely moot.
However, as the LA Times notes, “Should California’s law remain on the books, it would force Trump to choose: Reverse course on his steadfast refusal to provide tax information or risk that California’s 172 delegates to next year’s Republican National Convention could go to a long-shot GOP challenger. The new California law does not, however, apply the same rules to a write-in candidate — a possible backup plan for Trump, though one that might not do enough to help Republican candidates for legislative and congressional offices who are depending on the party standard-bearer to help drive voters to the polls.”

TOP NEWS EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
ILLEGALS FREED: “A total 218,400 people who either illegally entered the country or showed up without proper documentation at a port of entry along the southwest border were let go from Immigration and Customs Enforcement custody and set free in the U.S. between Dec. 21, 2018 through July 28,” according to the Washington Examiner30. “All of those released were family units, which means each person arrived at the U.S.-Mexico border with a child or parent. Adults sometimes travel with children they are unrelated to and claim to be a family.” Speaking of which, The New American31 reports, “The Border Patrol has apprehended nearly 6,000 fake families at the southwest border, and now devotes upwards of 60 percent of its manpower in high-crossing areas on what amounts to babysitting.”
NUKE PACT NUKED: “The United States formally withdrew from a landmark nuclear missile pact with Russia on Friday after determining that Moscow was in violation of the treaty, something the Kremlin has repeatedly denied. … 'The United States will not remain party to a treaty that is deliberately violated by Russia,’ Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said in a statement about the U.S. withdrawal.” (Reuters32)
AFGHAN WITHDRAWAL? “The Trump administration is preparing to withdraw thousands of troops from Afghanistan in exchange for concessions from the Taliban, including a cease-fire and a renunciation of al-Qaeda, as part of an initial deal to end the nearly 18-year-old war, U.S. officials say. The agreement, which would require the Taliban to begin negotiating a larger peace deal directly with the Afghan government, could cut the number of American troops in the country from roughly 14,000 to between 8,000 and 9,000, the officials said.” (The Washington Post33)
BUDGET APPROVED: “The Senate on Thursday passed a two-year budget and debt-ceiling deal, sending the bill to President Trump, who has indicated that he will sign it. The bill, which passed 67 to 28 with bipartisan support, is projected to add approximately $1.7 trillion to the deficit over the next ten years. It will lift the debt ceiling until 2021, set a $1.37 trillion limit on agencies’ annual budgets for fiscal year 2020, and raise that limit in fiscal year 2021. It will also essentially end the automatic spending cuts put in place by the 2011 Budget Control Act.” (National Review34)
COMEY DODGES: “The Justice Department has decided against prosecuting former FBI Director James Comey for leaking classified information following a referral from the department’s inspector general, sources familiar with the deliberations told Fox News. … Comey penned memos memorializing his interactions with President Trump in the days leading up to his firing. He then passed those documents to a friend, Columbia University Law Professor Daniel Richman, who gave them to The New York Times. Comey admitted to that arrangement during congressional testimony.” (Fox News35)
CUMMINGS’S HOME BURGLARIZED: “Baltimore Police are investigating after the home of Rep. Elijah Cummings was broken into early Saturday morning. … This was several hours before President Donald Trump tweeted criticizing Cummings and his district including Baltimore.” (CBS Baltimore36)
HAPPENSTANCE, OR MACHINATION? “A redesign of the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation website will make it harder for voters to inspect Sen. Kamala Harris’s controversial record as the state’s top cop. The department removed public access to a number of reports on incarceration in the state, including when presidential candidate Kamala Harris (D.) was California’s attorney general.” (The Washington Free Beacon37)

KAVANAUGH COMPLAINT DISMISSED: “A panel of federal judges dismissed complaints against Justice Brett M. Kavanaugh Thursday, saying the process for deciding on misconduct allegations against a Supreme Court justice is outside its reach. The complaints stemmed from Justice Kavanuagh’s confirmation battle last year, when he was accused of sexual misconduct and angrily denied the allegations and denounced some of those who made them.” (The Washington Times38)
BIRTH FIGURES: “The births of white babies outnumbered those of minorities by a hair, according to new U.S. Census Bureau data that also showed that the most common age for whites is 58 versus 11 for Hispanics. The latest census data, covering up to 2013, showed that there were 2,943 more white babies born than minorities out of a total of 3,942,783. Census had expected minorities to overtake white births, but the data shows that it hasn’t happened as fast as expected, according to a Pew Research Center analysis of the data.” (Washington Examiner39)
FIRST AMENDMENT RESTITUTION: “The University of Florida (UF) agreed … to pay their Young Americans for Freedom (YAF) student chapter $66,000, and amend their school policy to allow conservative groups to have access to more financial resources. In December of last year, the UF student YAF chapter filed a lawsuit against the school for allegedly violating students’ First and Fourteenth Amendment rights.” (The Daily Caller40)

OPINION IN BRIEF
Tucker Carlson & Neil Patel: “Modern progressives are different. Progressivism isn’t about helping the people beneath you; it’s about establishing your moral superiority. Democrats support the status quo in Baltimore. It doesn’t bother them. That’s not surprising. They created modern Baltimore. The city hasn’t had a Republican mayor in more than 50 years. Things really began to fall apart after the 2015 riots. The Obama administration imposed a consent decree on the city’s police department that radically restricted its ability to protect citizens. Not surprisingly, crime exploded. [Rep. Elijah] Cummings, by the way, praised that consent decree. He’s very much part of the problem. From her taxpayer-funded vacation in Italy, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi defended Cummings — and Baltimore. Pelosi grew up in the city. Her father and her brother were mayors of Baltimore. But like most rich progressives, Pelosi herself is long gone. She’s got a winery in Napa now. She’s not interested in going back to Baltimore. Like most Democrats, she finds it easier to just lecture other people about it.”
SHORT CUTS
Insight: “Of all tyrannies, a tyranny exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive… To be ‘cured’ against one’s will and cured of states which we may not even regard as disease is to be put on a level with those who have not yet reached the age of reason or those who never will; to be classed with infants, imbeciles, and domestic animals. For if crime and disease are to be regarded as the same thing, it follows that any state of mind which our masters choose to call ‘disease’ can be treated as a crime; and compulsorily cured. Even if the treatment is painful, even if it is life-long, even if it is fatal, that will be only a regrettable accident; the intention was purely therapeutic.” —C.S. Lewis (1898-1963)
For the record: “Baltimore was one of the best places to visit when I broke into the league in ‘95. And, at the end, we didn’t really, like, enjoy going back. I could tell toward the end it started getting a little scarier.” —former Major League Baseball star Johnny Damon
Re: The Left: “You’d think someone [on the Democrat debate stage] would pop out with, 'Jake, let me tell you why America doesn’t constantly make me want to throw up in my mouth.’ Or, ‘Dana, I’ve actually met a few Americans and we’re painting them a little darkly here.’” —Peggy Noonan
Observations: “Hands down, Joe Biden’s greatest accomplishment is creating the justification to block Merrick Garland from being appointed to the Supreme Court.” —Eddie Zipperer
Non Compos Mentis: “President Trump has turned it upside down economically. People are hurting badly. There’s no response. We faced a different problem ten years ago when the economy collapsed because of Republican policies. Now we face a problem that the economy, as well as the soul of this country, is collapsing because of this presidency.” —Joe Biden
The BIG Lie: “I hope the next debate we can talk about how we can fix the things Trump has broken, not how Obama made all these mistakes. He didn’t.” —Joe Biden
Race bait: “Have you ever noticed the popularity of white robots? … The reason for these shades of technological white may be racism, according to new research.” —CNN
And last… “There are no good Democrat politicians. Not Tulsi. Definitely not Marianne. Not any of them. They are all members of the most morally and intellectually deranged political party in the country. There is not one good apple in the bunch.” —Matt Walsh
