“The same prudence which in private life would forbid our paying our own money for unexplained projects, forbids it in the dispensation of the public moneys.”“ —Thomas Jefferson (1808)

The Green New Deal would cost more than the world economy is worth.1
Senate Democrats register their support for infanticide.2

$93 Trillion Green New Deal Means National Bankruptcy10

Thomas Gallatin

The American Action Forum (AAF) released its study11 of Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s (AOC) widely panned ”Green New Deal12“ (GND) as it sought to calculate the actual cost of her plan. Sen. John Barrasso (R-WY), chairman of the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works, put it bluntly13: "The Green New Deal would bankrupt the nation.” He added, “On the upper end, every American household would have to pay $65,000 per year to foot the bill. The total price tag would be $93 trillion over 10 years. That is roughly four times the value of all Fortune 500 companies combined. That’s no deal.”

The AAF broke down the 10-year cost of implementing the GND’s major goals. The following is a list of some of those goals and their estimated total cost and cost per household:

Low-carbon Electric Grid: $5.4 trillion; $39,000

Net Zero Emissions Transportation System: $1.3 to $2.7 trillion; $9,000 to $20,000

Guaranteed Jobs: $6.8 to $44.6 trillion; $49,000 to $322,000

Universal Health Care: $36 trillion; $260,000

Guaranteed Green Housing: $1.6 to $4.2 trillion; $4,000 to $12,000

The Washington Examiner’s Tiana Lowe observes14, “Even without killing all the farting cows and eliminating every last car on the road, the Green New Deal will cost anywhere from 2.5 to 4.5 times the amount of the entire United States GDP.” In fact, global GDP is estimated to be less than $80 trillion.

One of the glaring ironies with the GND and AOC’s loudly expressed alarm over climate change — the “Millennials’ World War II15,” as she has bloviated — is the absence of any promotion of the most practical, reliable, efficient, and lowest-cost source for green energy: nuclear power. As Barrasso argued, “Instead, we should promote innovation to reduce carbon-dioxide emissions. Promising new technologies like advanced nuclear power, carbon capture, and carbon utilization held the key to significant emissions reductions. We can lower our emissions without crashing our economy.”

The truth is that the goal behind the GND push is not actually fighting climate change; rather it’s an attempt to usurp America’s free-enterprise system and replace it with totalitarian socialism. That’s why leftists like AOC love to promote “free” stuff but never freedom. Individual Liberty presents the biggest threat to their lust for power.

Senate Democrats Support Infanticide16

Lewis Morris

Such is the sad state of affairs in our nation’s capital that we have to actually force United States senators to go on record as to whether they support the murder of newborn babies. Senators voted yesterday on the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act17, a bill sponsored by Republican Ben Sasse18 of Nebraska and co-sponsored by 49 more. The bill requires doctors to provide medical care to infants born during attempted abortions and forbids doctors from killing newborns.

“This should be frankly the easiest vote we ever cast in this body,” Sasse declared.

Just three Democrats voted for it. Three. Thus, it failed to reach the 60-vote threshold.

One wouldn’t think that we need a federal law on the books that explicitly compels doctors to do their jobs (i.e., to “do no harm”), yet recent state laws have significantly rolled back infant protections. New York’s law19 claims to expand women’s rights, but it really just allows abortion as an option right up to labor and effectively negates born-alive protections.

Sasse first tried to pass his bill by unanimous consent, in large part to prove that there was no such consensus for the country’s newborns. Sen. Patty Murray (D-WA) became the Dems’ lightning rod and opposed the move, claiming it was redundant because there are already laws against infanticide. Well, there are also plenty of laws on the books regulating gun purchases and ownership, yet Murray and her Democrat cohorts are still heaping retread proposals onto that pile every time a useful murder hits the news.

There is no federal law to protect newborns in the context of abortion, and state protections can be shoved aside, as New York and seven other states have proven.

Seeing that the redundancy argument didn’t work, Democrats switched tactics and smeared the bill as restricting women’s access to abortion. (See how quickly they turned this from meaningless and redundant to a mortal threat to women’s rights?) Sasse’s bill does nothing to restrict access to abortion. Instead, it makes doctors culpable for allowing born infants to die from lack of medical care and grants women who receive abortions protection from prosecution. As noted in National Review20, this bill will also force Democrats to “choose between rejecting infanticide and arbitrary beliefs about who gets to live.”

Meanwhile, the Trump administration is affirming life by ending one federal handout Planned Parenthood has been receiving for years. A new rule21 issued Friday by the White House prohibits federal family-planning money under Title X from being provided to institutions that make abortion referrals or perform abortions at the same facilities that provide other family-planning services such as birth control or medical checkups.

Planned Parenthood will survive without that particular $50-60 million every year because congressional Republicans continuously fail to stop shoveling another $500 million to the abortion mill every year. Moreover, much of its government funding comes from state Medicaid programs. However, it’s very easy for a gift to become a handout and soon to become expected. Planned Parenthood, having received so many taxpayer dollars over the years, insists it’s entitled to that money. It has promised to sue to block the order. If that fails, then the organization has vowed to drop out of Title X altogether rather than give up providing abortions.

In sum, the macabre Democrat Party of today fights tooth and nail against any move to restrict abortion any more than China or North Korea do22, while demanding that American taxpayers foot the bill. “Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness,” indeed…

Kids Shovel Driveway for a Newly Widowed Woman27
“How’d you spend your snow day? Two kids in Silver Spring decided to help shovel out a neighbor who recently found herself in need of some extra helping hands. When you ask why they decided to help, though, they’ll say ‘just for the heck of it.’ However, nine-year-old Clara Dixon and 10-year-old Tommy Doherty aren’t quite telling the whole story. They decided to shovel this particular driveway, because their neighbor lost her husband the week before Christmas.”

“After long journeys to Vietnam, U.S. President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un are in place for their second summit Wednesday to address perhaps the world’s biggest security challenge: Kim’s pursuit of a nuclear program that stands on the verge of viably threatening targets around the planet,” reports30 the Associated Press. Keep in mind that trade negotiations with China are all wrapped up in this chess match.

“House Democrats will vote Tuesday to terminate President Donald Trump’s national emergency proclamation to build the border wall, presenting their opening salvo in a battle that’s expected to drag into the next presidential campaign, both in the courts and on Capitol Hill. … The resolution to terminate the national emergency is expected to pass the House before the Senate considers the measure in the coming weeks. The showdown sets up a potential presidential veto if the measure clears both chambers. So far there doesn’t seem to be enough support on Capitol Hill — two-thirds majorities in both chambers — to override a veto.” (ABC News31)
Judicial clampdown: “The Supreme Court answered a question Monday that, surprisingly, hasn’t been resolved before: If a judge dies after voting on a case but before the decision is announced, does the judge’s vote count? The liberal lion of the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, Stephen Reinhardt, died March 29, 2018, but his vote was counted in a decision that came out shortly afterward. … But the Supreme Court said Monday it’s ‘generally understood that a judge may change his or her position up to the very moment when a decision is released.’ In order for a vote to count, a judge must be actively serving on the court when a ruling is rendered. Holding otherwise would have ‘allowed a deceased judge to exercise the judicial power of the United States after his death.’” (NBC News32)
“A federal judge in Washington state on Monday rejected a challenge to the Trump administration’s ban on so-called bump stocks, the device used to kill 58 people and injure nearly 900 people in Las Vegas in 2017. In a 64-page decision, U.S. District Judge Dabney L. Friedrich said the plaintiffs who brought the challenge failed to prove their case. The ban, issued on Dec. 18 by the Justice Department, is set to go into effect on March 26.” (NBC News33)
“For more than 90 years, a huge concrete cross has dominated part of Bladensburg, Maryland, a Washington, D.C. suburb. On Wednesday, the U.S. Supreme Court will be asked to decide whether it stays, raising a question that has vexed the justices for decades: What is the proper place for religion in American public life? … Completed in 1925, it was built to commemorate 49 servicemen who died in World War I. Their names are on a bronze plaque at the base. Private funds paid for the cross, but a state commission took it over in 1961 as well as the land it sits on, which is now in a busy traffic interchange. In 2012, the American Humanist Association filed a lawsuit, claiming that its presence on public land violates the Constitution, amounting to a government establishment of religion.” (NBC News34)
The hoaxes35 just keep on coming: “In 2017, prominent Michigan LGBT activist Nikki Joly, a transgender man, was the victim of an apparent hate crime: An unknown arsonist burned down his house, which had two dogs and three cats trapped inside. Some presumed the act was retaliatory — a response to Joly’s successful campaign to persuade the government of Jackson, Michigan, to adopt an anti-discrimination law, for which a local newspaper declared him ‘Citizen of the Year.’ Now the police finally have a suspect in custody: Joly.” (Reason36)
“Cubans have overwhelmingly ratified a new constitution that enshrines the one-party socialist system as irrevocable while instituting modest economic and social changes, according to the national electoral commission. … Dissidents, who were divided between those who advocated a ‘no’ vote and those who called for abstention so as not to legitimize a process they deemed a fraud, reported a few incidents across the country of members being temporarily detained or harassed.” (Reuters37)
Humor: Nation breathes sigh of relief as Ocasio-Cortez comes out against having children (The Babylon Bee38)
Policy: The Washington Examiner explains39 the importance of “a unanimous Supreme Court [decision] that law enforcement can no longer make grossly disproportionate seizures of property, even from people who owe money after being convicted of crimes.”
Policy: The Daily Signal’s Amy Swearer reveals “8 Serious Flaws in the New Background Check Bill40.” Swearer infers, “Instead of passing this tortured bill, Congress should look at ways to shore up the enforcement of existing laws, which do address the underlying realities of criminal firearm activity.”

Stephen Moore: “Ironically, liberals like [Andrew] Cuomo who argued for years that businesses don’t make location decisions based on taxes in their states are now forced to admit that the cap on the state and local tax deduction (which primarily affects the richest 1 percent) is depleting their state coffers. The rich change their residence by moving for at least 183 days of the year to low taxers such as Arizona, Florida, Tennessee, Texas and Utah. We advised Cuomo and other blue state governors to immediately cut their tax rates if they wanted to remain even semi-competitive with low-tax states. They are doing the opposite. Connecticut, Illinois and New Jersey have led the nation in tax increases on the rich over the last three years, while ‘progressives’ have cheered them on. … There is also a useful warning for the soak-the-rich crowd of progressives in Washington. If a rise in the state tax rate from 8 percent to 13 percent can have this big and immediate negative impact, think of the economic carnage from doubling of the federal tax rate from 37 percent to 70 percent as some want to do. The wealthy would relocate their wealth and income in low-tax havens like Hong Kong, the Cayman Islands and Ireland. That would do wonders for the middle class living in those countries.”

Upright: “We can come to the aid of innocent, voiceless, defenseless little babies who’ve just taken their first breaths by protecting him and her from mistreatment and neglect. This should be frankly the easiest vote we ever cast in this body.” —Ben Sasse on his defeated Senate measure16 to protect infants born alive after attempted abortions

Braying Jenny: “On a more serious note, to put it mildly, [this] is why Hitler was actually elected, and he was elected and he campaigned against abortion. I mean, that was — he padlocked the family planning clinics. Okay, so that is still relevant in the terms of the right wing.” —Gloria Steinem (Hitler was a National SOCIALIST. And he used abortion and sterilization to contain certain elements of the population. None of that is remotely similar to the American pro-life movement.)

Family squabble: “You can see why [Hillary Clinton is] one of the most disliked politicians in America. She’s not nice. Her people are not nice. [Bernie Sanders] busted his tail to fly all over the country to talk about why it made sense to elect Hillary Clinton and the thanks that [we] get is this kind of petty stupid sniping a couple years after the fact. … It doesn’t make me feel good to feel this way but they’re some of the biggest a—holes in American politics.” —Michael Briggs, spokesman for Sanders’s campaign, on reported leaks42 from Clinton’s team on Sanders’s posh private-jet arrangements in recent years

Alpha Jackass: “Why would we be surprised that a self-proclaimed nationalist would not speak out against a self-proclaimed white nationalist? … And these are [Trump’s] people, alright? And he’s not going to stop them and thank law enforcement. He’s probably not happy about what law enforcement did.” —former RNC Chairman Michael Steele on the arrest of domestic terrorist Christopher Paul Hasson43

And last… “A new study finds that Ocasio-Cortez’s Green New Deal would cost $93 TRILLION — or $600K per household. You’d need a 100% tax rate on every household earning $30K or more to get enough revenue. Remember: Every top 2020 Dem supports this socialist plan.” —GOP Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel
