IN BRIEF
President Trump Did NOT Miss the Armistice Day Ceremony1

Mark Alexander

This past weekend, President Donald Trump2 was in France to mark the 100th anniversary of Veterans Day3, still known in Europe as Armistice Day. On Sunday, he joined other world leaders for a solemn ceremony4 at Suresnes American Cemetery outside of Paris. That site is the final resting place for 1,541 Americans.

In his remarks, the president observed, “In that treacherous forest and the surrounding fields, American Marines, Soldiers, and Allied forces fought, and they fought through hell, to turn the tide of the war. We fought well together.” He concluded, “It is our duty to preserve the civilization they defended and to protect the peace they so nobly gave their lives to secure one century ago.”

But you would be hard-pressed to find coverage of that ceremony.

According to saturated “news” reports by Leftmedia outlets5 Sunday, Trump missed the 100th anniversary ceremony — at least that was the confusing message they delivered in mass. In fact, by Sunday night, headlines like The Hill’s “Trump criticized after White House cancels cemetery visit in France over weather” dominated the news, numbering what seemed like 100-1 over reports about the actual Veterans Day ceremony the president did attend. ABC breathlessly proclaimed, “Trump’s rain check on honoring Americans killed in WWI prompts backlash.” Of course, The Washington Post led with “Critics pile on after Trump cancels visit to U.S. military cemetery.”

This disgraceful disinformation campaign comports with a now-familiar pattern the mainstream media uses to undermine the truth, and indeed, such reports do constitute a formidable “enemy of the people6.” It was a more offensive media charade than most because it politicized a lie that then overshadowed the truth about solemnly honoring WWI Veterans on Sunday. The only “backlash” about the Saturday ceremony that was missed because of weather was generated in the MSM echo chambers, where they constantly endeavor to be rainmakers.

Typical of the follow-on social media posts was this from Barack Obama’s7 national security advisor, Ben Rhodes, who declared Trump was “blowing off honoring American servicemen who died for us,” which is the first time Rhodes or any other Obama administration hack found a reason to honorably mention our Patriot Veterans.

In fact, because of weather Saturday, for safety reasons, Trump’s 50-mile flight from Paris to Aisne Marne American Cemetery aboard Marine One was canceled. While Chief of Staff John Kelly and Joint Chiefs Chairman Gen. Joseph Dunford made the trek by motorcade, it was the right call not to put the president in a cross-country motorcade through unsecured areas in a nation that has, regrettably (even according to some French leaders), been overrun by Muslims — among whom are many Islamists. It was more polite and diplomatic for the White House security team to just cite the weather and leave it at that.

As for the MSM coverage of the actual Veterans Day ceremony Sunday, that was universally focused on leftist French President Emmanuel Macron’s tasteless diversionary remarks pointed at Trump’s “America First” trade policies: “Patriotism is the exact opposite of nationalism. Nationalism is a betrayal of patriotism by saying, ‘Our interest first; who cares about the others?’” Recall that in October, Trump declared8 of his administration’s trade and security policies, “You know what I am? I am a nationalist, okay? I’m a nationalist.” (Earlier in the week Macron’s abject idiocy shined with this remark: “We have to protect ourselves with respect to China, Russia, and even the United States of America.”)

Macron’s assertion notwithstanding, the root definitions of “nationalism” and “patriotism” are very similar. And for the record, the national security opinion of French leaders has not served the best interest of Liberty9 since the American Revolution, and only then because they hated the British.

SNL Apologizes for Denigrating a Veteran’s Sacrifice10

Mark Alexander

There was a very rare example of making peace last Saturday, just ahead of Veterans Day.

As you may recall, last week we called out SNL “comedian” Pete Davidson for mocking a photo11 of now congressman-elect Dan Crenshaw (R-TX), who wears an eye patch. LtCom Crenshaw was a former Navy SEAL who lost an eye in an IED explosion during his third combat tour in Afghanistan.

Davidson said, “There are some pretty gross people running for office this year,” and then commented on the Crenshaw photo: “You may be surprised to hear he’s a congressional candidate for Texas and not a hit-man in a porno movie. I’m sorry. I know he lost his eye in war — or whatever.”

Amid the outrage that followed, Crenshaw was quick to say last week that he did not think Davidson should be fired, but added, “Good rule in life: I try hard not to offend; I try harder not to be offended. That being said, I hope @nbcsnl recognizes that vets don’t deserve to see their wounds used as punchlines for bad jokes.”

Good rule in life: Don’t denigrate the service and sacrifice of decorated veterans.

SNL and Davidson invited Crenshaw onto the show and apologized, albeit under duress, saying, “On behalf of the show and myself, I apologize. … I mean this from the bottom of my heart: It was a poor choice of words. The man is a war hero, and he deserves all the respect in the world.”

For his part, setting aside a humor layup, Crenshaw told the SNL audience: “There are a lot of lessons to learn here, not just that the Left and Right can still agree on some things, but also this: Americans can forgive one another. We can remember what brings us together as a country and still see the good in each other.”

Crenshaw added: “This is Veterans Day weekend, which means that it’s a good time for every American to connect with a veteran. Maybe say, ‘Thanks for your service,’ but I would actually encourage you to say something else: Tell a veteran ‘never forget.’ When you say ‘never forget’ to a veteran, you are implying that as an American, you are in it with them, not separated by some imaginary barrier between civilians and veterans, but connected together as grateful fellow Americans. We’ll never forget the sacrifices made by veterans past and present.”

FEATURED ANALYSIS
Democrats’ Estrogen Resistance34

Robin Smith

“White women we are so gross it’s f—ing embarrassing and we need to f—ing stop.”

“When they will understand the damage that they do, and not just to themselves?”

“White women gonna white”

“There are white women voting against their own best interests to preserve a patriarchy.”

Those are just a few of the angry diatribes from Democrat women convinced that all American voters born with a uterus should conform to vote as a gender bloc to ride the blue wave ashore in the November 2018 midterm elections. No greater aspect of the 2018 elections exhibits the blame and shame of Democrats who view the American electorate through the lens of identity politics.

Democrats don’t ever lose because of failed ideas — policies that have been proven only to grow government, not empower individuals — or messaging and behavior that’s appealing to only a very homogenous group motivated by anger and crisis. Oh, no, Democrats fail because of oppression, prejudice, and whatever -ism they conjure up to fit their narrative to rationalize the rejection of their platform by voters.

According to exit polling, in U.S. House races, white women split evenly between Republicans and Democrats, 49% each. But in the Georgia gubernatorial race that’s still being delegitimized by Oprah’s pick, Stacey Abrams, 75% of white women voted for Republican Brian Kemp. Clearly, in this critical race between a white, southern man and a black, professional, and educated woman, the only reason these while women voted for the archnemesis of Democrat women is because they’re all racist.

Yet Robert Francis “Beto” O'Rourke, the latest Democrat candidate who has reporters swooning, lost to incumbent Senator Ted Cruz with the backing of almost 60% of white women and a treasury that outspent Cruz by up to $30 million. How could these supposedly racist white women vote for a Hispanic man whose family immigrated to this nation legally with a story of the American Dream?

In the case of the Caucasian Chick Caucus going for Cruz, angry feminists spewed that white women were “foot soldiers of the patriarchy.” By now, we hope that these hundreds of thousands of female voters have had their apron strings untied and they’re released from their caveman husbands. While the Women’s March of the Left Ladies hoists the banner of feminism high, what they’re peddling is anything but feminism. The women on the Left seem to be a mass of malcontents who view every man through some experience of betrayal dripping with anger toward all who don’t echo the same sentiments.

Feminism was originally the theory that both sexes are equal in their political, economic, and societal rights and function. It was and is supposed to be about the advocacy of feminine independence and the fair treatment of women. Well, the only modern women who use that approach are on the Right side of the political spectrum.

When a progressive gal talks about reproductive rights and free birth control, the female voters on the right hear, “I want abortion on demand and the government to be my caretaker with free contraception and abortion services.” When angry Democrat females verbally assault men as privileged oppressors, the women on the Right have the capacity to bring to mind most men they’ve known through life — husband, father, brother, friend, co-worker, etc. — to understand that, while there are certainly some scoundrels with XY chromosomes, most have roles of personal and professional significance that just don’t fit the truly despicable portrayal by the Left.

It’s a serious miscalculation for leftists to make feminism and progressivism mutually exclusive. In the Brett Kavanaugh trial by pitchfork and torches, Democrats broadcast to the world that “all women” were in solidarity with their despicable tactics. That strategy yielded Republican gains in the Senate.

Democrats can only redefine feminism to fit their politics, not reality. It often works because it’s based on emotion and rooted in the hatred of Donald Trump. It’s especially effective among college-educated women living in urban-suburban areas — women who subscribe to this perverted observance of feminism that demands that the government serve as source and sustenance while marginalizing almost all men.

In reality, the authentically independent women who are treated as equals are leading on the Right. These are the candidates and elected officials who articulate economic policy that focuses on free markets, individual empowerment, and attainment with an emphasis on self-reliance, not becoming more dependent upon the government for any list of government-funded and controlled services.

It’s Republican women like UN Ambassador Nikki Haley, Senator-elect Marsha Blackburn of Tennessee, Governor-elect Kristi Noem of South Dakota, and Congresswoman-elect Carol Miller of West Virginia who focus on real policy issues. None of these women ran on the treadmill of tired identity politics that beats down men while, essentially, clamoring for the government to be their key provider.

Election cycles will come and go. The 2020 elections are sure to contain higher stakes, louder rhetoric, and even more hate coming from the ever-aggrieved Left. But a critical difference will always remain between Democrats and Republicans, both male and female: Leftists strive for equality at the finish line with blame and shame as key ingredients for failure. Republicans strive for equality at the starting line with the expectation that the outcomes are best when self-determined and fueled by personal responsibility. Both men and women can appreciate that.

OPINION IN BRIEF

Ken Blackwell: “The current Broward [County] supervisor of elections, Brenda Snipes, was appointed in 2003 to fix an office beset with problems — the year before it failed to open the polls on time. Yet Snipes has done little better. A former elections inspector, Benjamin Bennett, complained, ‘Every election there is a snafu of some type.’ Noted the Naples News: ‘It’s not unusual for Democrat Brenda Snipes … to find herself facing questions about bungled elections.’ In the 2004 presidential election, thousands of Broward absentee ballots disappeared. Her office transported them in private cars without observers and opened absentee ballots in private. Two years ago, the office was placed under state supervision after it violated both state and federal law by destroying ballots subject to a lawsuit. … There was a problem sending out absentee ballots this year. After the election, Snipes was unable to say how many ballots remained to be counted. Three days after the election, her office had not even counted all ‘early’ votes. Her office opened provisional ballots without approval by the canvassing board and mixed valid and invalid provisional ballots. In a suit filed by Republican Senate candidate Rick Scott, a Florida court found that the election supervisor violated the state constitution and law by failing to release information on the count. Incredibly, there are more registered than eligible voters in Broward. … It’s hard to know how many ballots are improperly cast when Democrats and their political allies resist every attempt to improve election security. Even a few votes cast mistakenly or fraudulently can change the results. … Election controversies hurt all Americans. Fixing the system should be a bipartisan priority.”

SHORT CUTS

The Gipper: “There is no limit to what a man can do or where he can go if he doesn’t mind who gets the credit.”

For the record: “Now Democrat lawyers are descending on #Florida. They have been very clear they aren’t here to make sure every vote is counted. They are here to change the results.” —Sen. Marco Rubio

Non Compos Mentis: “Ruth Bader Ginsberg can have my ribs. And my kidneys and a lung. And anything else she needs. She can even have my husband on Thursdays.” —Alyssa Milano

Braying Jenny: “What if someone with an unstable mind loaded a gun and drove to Washington? What if that person went looking for our girls? Donald Trump, with his loud and reckless innuendos, was putting my family’s safety at risk. And for this I’d never forgive him.” —Michelle Obama (Somebody did just that but it was a Bernie Sanders supporter looking for Republicans.)

Braying Jenny II: “The new Democratic House will confront the #CultureOfCorruption in the Administration, just as the Constitution requires.” —Nancy Pelosi

Braying Jenny III: “[Trump was] the first person, Republican or Democrat, who refused to say that he would respect the results of this election. Now, that is a direct threat to our democracy.” —Hillary Clinton on the “threat to democracy” when candidates refuse to accept election results

Braying Jenny IV: “Whatever else he was, the man had charm.” —former Planned Parenthood president Cecile Richards’s on Fidel Castro

Alpha Jackass: “You mock those who lost loved ones because if you gave it any thought at all you would never walk away from any of these [mass shootings] without figuring out a better way to deal with them. And prayer — you think leaving it to God is the answer? We pray for strength. We pray for wisdom. For resolve. But we clearly don’t want to act on any of those here, so what are you praying for?” —CNN’s Chris Cuomo

And last… “From the article below35: ‘98% of mass public shootings in the United States since 1950 have occurred in places where guns are banned.’ Thousand Oaks included. This gets little media attention.” —Brit Hume
