It's about staunching the decay of the institution that undergirds everything else in our society. To enshrine same sex marriage is to endorse the idea of marriage as adult fulfillment. Marriage is much more than that. "No crisis should go to waste, an eternal truth highlighted in bold by a purported climate change apocalypse that is now the target of actions newly proposed by President Obama. This so-called 'crisis' will flood not various coastlines, but instead the front pages, replacing other, less flattering political headlines for the administration. ... Whatever the weakness of the evidence on greenhouse gases (GHG) and climate effects, the real goal of carbon policy is a regional redistribution of wealth.... In the president's speech there appears the phrase 'carbon pollution' no fewer than 30 times. In the Orwellian language of the environmental left, 'carbon pollution' is carbon dioxide -- a natural substance that is not toxic to humans at many times greater than current ambient concentrations and that protects plants from various environmental stresses. It is unlike any other effluent regulated by the EPA for which less is better. Too little carbon dioxide would make life difficult, and in the extreme case, the Earth uninhabitable. That obviously will not be the result of the president's proposals if implemented. "A breathlessly exonerative narrative swept the news media [last] week: that liberal groups had been singled out and, by implication, abused by the IRS, just as conservative groups had been. Therefore, the scandal wasn't a scandal but a mere bungle -- a nonpolitical series of unhelpful but innocent mistakes. The problem with this story is that liberals were not caught in the IRS dragnet. ... The case isn't closed, no matter how many people try to slam it shut. On Wednesday Russell George, the Treasury inspector general whose original audit broke open the scandal, answered Rep. Sander Levin's charge that the audit had ignored the targeting of progressives. ... 'We did not find evidence that the criteria you identified, labeled "Progressives," were used by the IRS to select potential political cases during the 2010 to 2012 timeframe we audited.' One hundred percent of the groups with 'Tea Party,' 'Patriot' or '9/12' in their names were given extra scrutiny. ... The revenue-gathering arm of the federal government appears to be politically biased, corrupt in its actions, and unable to reform itself. "The FBI announced it will be pulling ads featuring wanted terrorists off Seattle-area buses, due to complaints that they stereotype Muslims. ... Sixteen photos of wanted terrorists are featured beneath the heading, 'Faces of Global Terrorism.' Below the photos, the tagline reads, 'Stop a Terrorist. Save Lives. Up to $25 Million Reward.' ... King County Metro had received six complaints about the ad on its customer information line. FBI Special Agent Fred Gutt said the pullback was 'a result of our continued engagement with the community and the feedback we are getting.' ... Actually, according to a 2011 National Counterterrorism Center (NCTC) report published in 2012, Muslims are the face of global terrorism. The report reveals that Sunni Muslims were responsible for 'about 70 percent' of the 12,533 terrorist murders committed in 2011. This compares to 1,926 murders committed by 'secular/political/anarchist' groups, 1,519 by 'unknown' factions, 170 by a category described as 'other,' and 77 by 'Neo-Nazi/Fascist/White Supremacist' groups. ... Islamists, like their leftist allies, have become well-versed in both newspeak and incrementalism. Grievance politics frees them to promulgate intolerant jihadism, even as those who challenge them are tarred as religious bigots. ... Re: The Left

"When we use terms like 'obligation' and 'claim' we are using the language of individualism. But almost no one on the left who writes about inequality believes in individualism. They're all collectivists. What they really believe in is collective decision-making. So what you see happening in post after post is an ethical bait and switch. You get hooked in by the language that is personal and that most of us can identify with. And before you know it you are being asked to agree to something that is completely impersonal -- transferring power and money to government bureaucrats. ...
