And...yet you're taking the time to tell us how you don't want to spend any time discussing it!  Grin Grin  Grin Lips Sealed

Yes, the indirect reference to God. That kind of began to disturb me recently when one day I said that phrase and then thought, "Why am I saying this? I'm not sure I like what this implies, now that I think about it!" But it's much funnier to ask what a gosh is than to pull out a soapbox and share my gnawing discomfort over the phrase. You see, uncomfort is uncomfortable. But funny is, well, funny. Grin

I'm with you, TL! I could use some humor here. Smiley

It's alot like Gees Wiz, which is an alteration of another name and I don't mean Cheese Whiz.  All of these are merely attempted sanitizations of terms or phrases we know to be improper.  As George Carlin put it shoot is just sh*t with two O's.

Even Holy Cow, Holy Mackrel, Holy Toldeo are all attempt to soften the shared intensity of the emotion behind them.

Depending on the emotion elicited there can be sin in them there words.  Even sin against the first commandment.

I believe that if there is enough emotion or anger associated with any phrase, especially one that so clearly represents a mere adulteration of the terms, there can be a taking of the Lord's name in vain.  After all it is the intent behind the action that is the true sin anyway.

In the 2004  "OH My Gosh" resulted in ...a commendation!

Air Marshal Leaves Gun in Airport Restroom

CHICAGO (Reuters) - A federal air marshal accidentally
left her gun in a restroom beyond the security checkpoints
at Cleveland Hopkins International Airport, officials say.

The weapon was discovered by a passenger who alerted
an airline employee.

The marshal remained on the job after Thursday's incident
when she visited an airport restroom and inadvertently left
her gun behind, Dave Adams, spokesman for the Federal
Air Marshal Service in Washington, said Saturday.

The restroom was beyond security checkpoints, airport
spokeswoman Pat Smith said. So the risk was that someone
could have discovered the gun and taken it onto a flight.

"Right now we're still doing the investigation," Adams said.
"It will determine what disciplinary action will be appropriate."

He declined to identify the marshal for security reasons,
but said her "work in the past had been outstanding."

Huh ?
An air marshal is somebody who gets free flights all over
the place, has to act like a normal passenber but carry a
concelaed gun. The "work" is showing up for the flight on
time. Since no air marshal has ever had to use their gun,
or do anything except showing up on time, how can they
say one air marshal's work was "outstanding" ?
Are the rest even worse ?

The United States deploys armed air marshals disguised
as passengers on thousands of flights each week as part
of security measures implemented after the Sept. 11,
2001 hijacked airliners attacks that killed about 3,000
people.

Smith said the incident occurred about 4 p.m. on Thursday
when the air marshal went to the restroom. While washing
her hands, she placed her gun on a shelf, but forgot to take
it with her when she left the room.

The reason for taking her concealed gun out of her purse,
in order to wash her hands, has not been announced yet, but
it probably has something to do with her being outstanding.

Soon afterward, a passenger found the gun and informed
an airline employee, who removed it and told police.
The gun later was returned to the marshal. They just knew
that the gun must be hers.

She remained on the job, but it is not known if she washed
her hands when using the washroom on the plane .....

Did somebody maybe mis-translate "out-to-lunch" into
"outstanding"  ?

Another question about security. How well are they doing the background checks on these people? Will there be racial profiling for arabs? Before we had no guns, and now we certainly have guns. Whether this is good or bad depends entirely on the person carrying it.
