Fair enough.  So I guess no-one is going to be censured for testing the limits?

Oklahoma Howdy to Ebia,

Nobody said that.

Being reasonable is the key to keeping the Debate Area. Testing the limits will simply get the Debate Area removed.

I think (hope?) you misundertand me.  What I meant is that, since the boundaries a bit vague at the moment, if someone oversteps where you think they are, they'll be told to reign it in, and hence the boundaries will become clearer.  Rather than "you've broken the forum rules - off you go".

I wasn't for a moment suggesting that people try it on.

Oklahoma Howdy to Ebia,

Grin  You had me worried there for a time. I was wondering how many fingers of mine would be chopped off by ADMIN. Yes, I did misunderstand you.  Grin

Yes, what you said is correct. We are hoping that those who like to debate will set their own reasonable boundaries that everyone can live with.

I like the idea of a buffer zone, suggesting indirectly where boundaries may be nearing.

The zone I'm thinking of so far, in increasing significance:

"Principle's Office"   Grin

"Detention"   Grin

"Probation"   Grin   and

"Jail"

There could be variations--say  "Solitary", or "The Guillotine"(for when people actually get thrown off the site--with reason why.  I think this would be helpful to all.  And might lesson the "arbitrariness" implications?...??)

And for basket cases, "The Men in White", or "The Padded Cell"...    Cool

Maybe if we treat people humorously, with "affection", we might be able to lasso a few of the more difficult ones?  They put up a big show that they're just here to troll or vandalize;  a humorous buffer zone might intercept them unexpectedly--and some of them are lonely individuals, searching?

When they see their name in Jail or worse, it might be for them a different way of looking at things.  If they persist, then show them the door(but again, posted, like under Guillotine, or "Lethal Injection"( Grin)--with reason why).

I think Jesus was always doing that--that is, an unexpected twist to things?

But, while this is a "good" idea, it would be much too much for a volunteer.  For it to succeed, it would have to be a paid position, I think, at least in some way.

It could be very effective, I think.

Oklahoma Howdy to Symphony,

Grin  I like the idea of humor to get someone's attention and possibly keep some of the trolls from destruction long enough to give them THE GOSPEL.

Brother, I'm perplexed about why you skipped some of the more popular forms of corporal punishment and went directly to lethal injection and beheading.   Grin

Oklahoma Howdy to Sincereheart & Shylynne,

The original idea was to reserve the majority of the forums for Christian fellowship and peace. SIGH - back to the drawing board.

Oklahoma Howdy to Sincereheart,

I'm an optimist, so I'll consider that to be a positive thing.   Cheesy

I just hope and pray that most of the combatants eventually stop long enough to see what was actually accomplished. I think that all of us need to:

I apologize for my part in being one of the combatants.
I try not to make personal attacks, but sometimes my fingers get the best of me.

It is ok. To disagree is one thing. We need to talk out difference with open minds, to decipher truth from fiction, and to better understand our fellow man. But for To many of these Zealots, their emotions have got the better of them, and what was once honest desire is now vicious abuse, and I can not for the life of me figure out why Admin would allow this to continue.  Angry

Oklahoma Howdy to Justme & Tibby,

Justme,

Our war was going long before you got here. I actually believe that you and others who are thinking about this are part of the solution. We can choose to ignore war threads and they will die by themselves. We can and should all pray about how we treat each other, Christians and non-Christians. It is obviously more difficult to communicate with each other in Christian love, but that is what Jesus commanded us to do. We will all fail from time to time, and then it would be time to pray for some more for guidance and wisdom. Justme, I can assure you that I've failed many more times that you have. We can also pray for each other.

Tibby,

I don't think that we can write a rule for everything. The rules would be a 500 page manual if you left plenty of gaps.   Cheesy  I think the easiest solution is for all of us to pray about what fuel we add or remove from potential fires. You may not be old enough to have heard the old saying, "It takes two to fight". Another analogy might be creating a bonfire when one person has the matches and another person has the logs. Once you have a fire, three to five more people adding logs to it can make a pretty big and hot fire. I'm positive that debate is possible without name calling, hate, humiliation, and a 40 foot bonfire.   Cheesy   It is more difficult, of course.

Love In Christ,
Tom

But then he'd also need to make a rule about anti-Protestantism and anti-Baptism and then you'd be affected... Grin
