2 Samuel 6:21
... I will celebrate before the LORD.

— 2 Samuel 6:21 (NIV)

Thoughts on Today's Verse...

David was ridiculed for his exuberance as he rejoiced with dancing at the Ark of the Covenant's return home. He refused, however, to be deterred by such criticism. This was a great day. His God was the only great and true God. He would celebrate before the Lord!

My Prayer...

Lord God Almighty, full of grace and mercy, awesome in power and holiness, you are my joy, my hope, and my future. I rejoice in you as the only One, and the only thing, worthy of all glory, honor, and praise. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

Romans 6:23
For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

— Romans 6:23 (NIV)

Thoughts on Today's Verse...

If we get paid what we deserve, we're not going to like our wages. On the other hand, God, who is rich in mercy and grace, gives us his gift because of the sacrifice of Jesus and not what we deserve. I don't know about you, but that surely does make me want to serve him more passionately and faithfully!

My Prayer...

Glorious and gracious Father, holy and perfect in every way, thank you that your sacrificial grace bridges the great gulf between your righteousness and my imperfection. Thank you for the gift of eternal life. May my mortal life be holy and pleasing to you. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

Genesis 6:22
Noah did everything just as God commanded him.

— Genesis 6:22 (NIV)

Thoughts on Today's Verse...

Noah was described as a righteous man, blameless in his generation, who walked with God and did all that the Lord commanded him (Gen. 6:9, 22). Can you think of a higher honor? I'm not sure what they will write on my headstone when I pass from this life to be with Jesus, but I surely would love to be worthy of what was said of Noah in this verse! How about you?

My Prayer...

Holy God, I fully acknowledge that I am saved by your grace and not because of any great or righteous thing that I have done. At the same time, Father, I surely do want to honor you with my life and show others the difference your loving kindness makes in the life of your children. Bless me please, dear Father, to be more worthy of this description of Noah. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

Ephesians 6:24
Grace to all who love our Lord Jesus Christ with an undying love.

— Ephesians 6:24 (NIV)

Thoughts on Today's Verse...

Ephesians makes some of the greatest declarations in the entire Bible about the grace of God. This one, however, may be the very richest. Grace is offered to us whether we accept it or not. But, grace is with us in rich abundance and blessing as we love Jesus and hang on to his love with a grip of faith that is unwavering.

My Prayer...

Holy Father, I do love you and your Son Jesus with all my heart. Forgive me when my display of this passion dims and my communication of his grace to others lags. Rekindle in me an unquenchable desire to show my love for Jesus in all that I do and say. In his name, Jesus, your Son, I pray. Amen.

Matthew 6:25
"Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more important than food, and the body more important than clothes?"

— Matthew 6:25 (NIV)

Thoughts on Today's Verse...

God gives beauty to the flowers and life to grass. In the grand scheme of things, these are transitory and insignificant. He sent his Son from Heaven to save us. So, he most definitely is going to give us what we need until we go home to live with him!

My Prayer...

Loving Father and Almighty God, forgive my distraction over temporal things. I do believe that you have given me everything I need in Jesus and in the gracious abundance of your blessings. In the precious name of Jesus I pray. Amen.

Daniel 6:26-27
"I [Darius King of Persia] issue a decree that in every part of my kingdom people must fear and reverence the God of Daniel. For he is the living God and he endures forever; his kingdom will not be destroyed, his dominion will never end. He rescues and he saves; he performs signs and wonders in the heavens and on the earth. He has rescued Daniel from the power of the lions."

— Daniel 6:26-27 (NIV)

Thoughts on Today's Verse...

If a foreign King in the days of the Old Testament can recognize how grand and glorious our God is, surely those of us who have received his grace through Jesus can rejoice in him and give him praise!

My Prayer...

Father God, you are glorious and awesome. Your rule is true, righteous, and eternal. You keep your promises and generously send forth your blessings. You alone are truly holy, awesome in your splendor and might. I praise you and thank you in the name of Jesus my Lord. Amen.
