From an article at Netscape this morning:

Should Lust Really Be a Sin?

Lust is one of the seven deadly sins first identified by Pope Gregory the Great in the 6th century. He nailed them all: Lust, anger, envy, gluttony, sloth, pride, and greed. It's a cornucopia of bad living.

But hold on! A leading philosopher at Britain's Cambridge University says lust has been wrongly branded as a vice and should be "reclaimed for humanity" as the life-affirming virtue that it is.

Professor Simon Blackburn told the London Sunday Times that lust has gotten a bad name from bad ideology that has hindered its "freedom of flow." His quest is to rescue lust, arguing it has been wrongly condemned for centuries. And he has a prestigious backer: The Oxford University Press, which will publish Blackburn's project on the modern relevance of the seven deadly sins, including lust.

This is the link this morning, for more of the article, at Netscape(but for some reason it doesn't seem to work):

"reclaimed for humanity"

That seems to be a popular “buzz-word” secular humanists use.

Personally – I would like to “reclaim” the word “gay” to its original, intended meaning.

I think the link is here.  For some reason the end of the link didn't get into the hyper link.

I see this as sad and it reminds me of a retired Anglican Bishop named John Shelby Spong who thinks we should bring Christianity into the 21st century.  Here is a link to his new 'theses' that he wants to see inacted: http://www.dioceseofnewark.org/jsspong/reform.html
Some of you may have heard of him before but it is hard to imagine a more foolish set of theses.

It goes to remind me that the new morality is just the old immorality and the modern intellectual take on religion is just complete rejection of faith.

Thanks,
Nathan

When they first made the 7 Deadly sins, Lust wasn’t just sexual, but the “desire to control others.” It could have been sexual, or some form of blackmail, etc, etc. Simon Blackburn, living proof a PhD doesn't make you smart.

The Home page opening statement of this website; says it all;

"Welcome to our web pages! We're Episcopalians in the Diocese of Newark, which covers northern New Jersey, USA. Through these pages we reach out to people -- Episcopalian and not, churched and unchurched, those comfortable in their faith journeys and those seeking reconciliation with religion or its institutions."

Where is Jesus at this place?

I guess it depends what the object of their faith is??

As for Lust, what a ridiculous statement..............

Lust is the root cause of any of the original seven or whatever number of sins one considers original.

But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed.
Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death. (James 1:14-15)

Lust is defined by the Word itself at Rom 7:7, it is a sin of attitude, which caused death when acted upon.

It is a desire for anything or any experience which is against Gods known will.

This fellow Stong, no doubt is a revered reverend in this organization known as the espiscal church, what a sad state of affairs, when men possessing as christians are allowed to teach contrary to what is written.
