I'm reading: Tested by Fire: The Fruit of Suffering in the Lives of John Bunyan, William Cowper and David Brainerd by John Piper at the moment.

I've never read the Pilgrim's Progress   I have a copy though, but I took against Bunyan years ago. I've read Lewis' Pilgrim's Regress though.

May I suggest that you read Bunyan, Broken.  After all he has a rather long established record.  Maybe you will then be "mended."   It is rather like saying you read "Herald Tribune" when one is asked to read " New York Times"

I'll probably get around to reading Bunyan someday I just always thought....what a dreary guy. & I can't say I'm over-fond of his way of expressing himself. As its a classic, I will probably read it soon - once I've got through the book I'm reading at the moment and then I've got some weird book I picked up somewhere about the dance of God or something like that.

Further North, though in the same region. Bede was from just down the road, Cuthbert to the left. I'm from Northumberland (as it was before Margaret Thatcher decided to change the county boundaries)

Northumberland is miles north of Whitby or as the Yanks say, "An hour's drive."  LOL

Whitby is part of the old kingdom of Northumbria

Thats why Caedmon wrote his hymn in Northumbrian OE.

Between Lance and Broken I am certainly becoming acquainted with the history of English Literature (as not taught in the States).
Alas - I fear that even if I went out and found the forementioned works I wouldn't understand a word.  Has it been translated to basic Texan?

  i am reading "the Burning Heart" by richard toney
it is an interesting book of poetry. i heard about this author @ a library where i read. it is an ineterseting style he uses almost as if you are listening to a conversation with him and God. it is quite an easy read for those who are into poetry

Pilgrims Progress, an excellent book. I wish more people would read it. It realy makes you think, if you allow it. Enjoy

When I was a kid Paul Bunyan was a storybook from the library, not a cartoon (maybe it became one, and that's too bad because they are never like the original books). The story of a giant lumberjack with a blue ox named babe.
