Accepting Jesus as your Savior is most important but are you? You can't accept Jesus if you don't know him or call him a liar. Therefore you must:

Acknowledge that Jesus is Son of God and God in flesh
Believe the Trinity. God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit
Believe God created everything in 6 literal days
Acknowledge that Jesus died for all sins. Past, present and future
God forgives all sins
Believe that good works or being good doesn't get you saved
Must believe in the Rapture

Going against any of these will not gain you salvation

Actually my dear Brother, it's all in John 3:16 most of the rest will follow and maybe some will preceed that to get to that point.  You don't however have to believe in the Rapture to be saved.  However those that do, know their Bible and are blessed.

It's not at all necessary to believe much of that before salvation. An unbeliever can't be expected to believe all that. All that's necessary is (1) Admit and accept that you're a sinner. (2) Call upon the Lord and confess being a sinner who can't save him/herself. (3) Believe that Jesus saves, and there's NO other way but Him. (4) Ask His forgiveness and ask Him to save you, while repenting of your sins.

Jesus told the woman that washed His feet that it was he faith that saved her.

Luk 7:50  And he said to the woman, Thy faith hath saved thee; go in peace.

Jesus told the blind man who He restored his sight that it was his faith that has saved him.

Luk 18:42  And Jesus said unto him, Receive thy sight: thy faith hath saved thee.

We are told in Ephesians that it is our faith that saves us.

Eph 2:8  For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
Eph 2:9  Not of works, lest any man should boast.

In Romans we see a number of places that tell us it is through faith that we are saved.

Rom 1:17  For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith.

Rom 3:22  Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference:

Rom 3:25  Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God;

Rom 3:27  Where is boasting then? It is excluded. By what law? of works? Nay: but by the law of faith.

As grammyluv said John 3:16 tells us "that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life". How do we believe? By faith.

If we truly believe then we will believe His words and those other things that you have listed will become a part of those beliefs but they are not a requirement of salvation but rather a result of salvation.

Joh 5:46  For had ye believed Moses, ye would have believed me: for he wrote of me.
Joh 5:47  But if ye believe not his writings, how shall ye believe my words?

I realize I am in error, so I am fixing it

Acknowledge that Jesus is Son of God and God in flesh. You are not accepting Jesus if you deny he is God
Believe the Trinity. God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit. Again, not accepting if you deny
Believe God created everything in 6 literal days. You can't be a Christian and an evolutionist

I will agree with the statement that to deny His word is to deny Him and Jesus did teach a literal 6 day creation, not evolution, He also taught that He was the son of God and that He was very God come to us in the flesh.

Thanks PR for saying what I meant.  I was thinking that in my case, I was raised in church and so I knew of the Trinity and whole lot more before I actually became a Christian.  I know that many are saved that have never stepped foot in a church before.  It's different for everyone and like you said and I was trying to say that the other stuff (knowledge) will come.
I think I'm rambling again but that's okay, I've had grandkids for most of the last 8 days and am only getting myself back together today!

Grandkids can have that effect on a person but it's a whole lot of fun anyway.

Hello Ravenloche and All!

I saw the word "grandkids", so my attention was drawn to this post.

I'll share a little story with you. My wife and I just had a conversation about grandkids. My daughter called today and asked if there was any way we might be able to babysit our three grandsons  several days in November. I can't even remember why my daughter and her husband needed to be gone now, but we've already said yes. YES - we will buy airline tickets to go babysit in St. Louis in November for however long they want us.

So, my wife and I just don't understand why so many people go crazy over their grandkids!  (NOT! - We understand perfectly and go crazy over them frequently.) If they live some distance away and you don't get to see them very often, I think that the level of insanity increases. We just plan to have fun and make sure they get the best of care. Our little guy is learning how to talk right now, and the other two are changing so fast that we can't keep up with them.

Love In Christ,
Tom

When a person turns their life over to Christ.......they are indwelt by the Holy Spirit.  This leads to very great love for God.

"For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit.  For to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.  Because the carnal mind is enmity against God;  for it is not subject to the law of God, nor indeed can be.

"So then, those who are in the flesh cannot please God.  But you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, IF INDEED THE SPIRIT OF GOD DWELLS IN YOU.  Now if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he is not His.

"And if Christ is in you, the body is dead because of sin, but the Spirit is life because of righteousness.  But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you.

"The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God."      Romans Chp 8

Having the Spirit...........Christ becomes your first love.  It just happens.

Jesus:    "He who loves father or mother more than Me is not worthy of Me.  And he who loves son or daughter more than Me is not worthy of Me."    (Matthew 10: 37)

Romans 10:17 KJV  So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

John 3:16-18 KJV  For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.  17  For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.  18  He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.

Romans 10:8-10 KJV  But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach;  9  That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.  10  For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

Ephesians 2:8-10 KJV  For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:  9  Not of works, lest any man should boast.  10  For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.

Titus 3:4-7 KJV  But after that the kindness and love of God our Saviour toward man appeared,  5  Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;  6  Which he shed on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Saviour;  7  That being justified by his grace, we should be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life.

I'm a 'newbie', so forgive me for replying to such an old thread. The topic line caught me and 'grandkids' grabbed me. I enjoyed so much reading your posts and agree with the statement that we do go crazy over our grandbabies. And yes, distance does tend to increase the level of craziness. I only have one at the moment, one I waited patiently for, for five years. The minute I held him in my arms, I heard my grandmother say "it's a circle.." One of her favorite sayings that I just never got completely, until now. Another of her sayings comes to mind as well: "Your grandchildren are twice yours."  Finally, finally...I get it! And it's so true too, that our children are our reward. Our patience in raising our 1st children are seen in the 2nd ones, especially when you hear those sweet words from your 1st: Mom/Dad....you were right! Praise God, they really were listening!

Smiley I also enjoyed the topic line. I'm glad I joined up with you folks, it was time I stopped studying the Word alone.

Hello TreeBug,

You're most welcome to open any thread you want to, regardless of how old it is. Most of the regulars here are grandparents, so that's a topic of joy.

My wife and I have a fourth grandson since this thread was active. The little guy turned 1 a few days before Christmas. They live closer to us now and we get to see them more often.

Congratulations on your first grandchild. It's all exciting on each one and watching them grow up.

The thief upon the cross did not have the opportunity to go through all that. All he could say was "Jesus, Remember me when you come in your kingdom!" (Luke 2:42). That was it for him! The Lord replied "today you will be with me in paradise." Being born again is a spiritual regeneration which in time to come yields outward and inner manifestations.
"Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new." (2 Corinthians 5:17). I will suggest a book entitled "Born Again"
