A question about salvation

I have a book, written by a Baptist pastor,  which has helped me a great deal.  However, there is one part that puzzles me. The author says, " If a Muslim asks God to save him and he uses Jesus' name, God will save him.  If  a Shinto priest uses that name, God will save him."  Now, I realise that he is just making his point that salvation comes from Jesus, but it would also follow that  someone practising a different religion would immediately stop that practice, wouldn't it?

They should immediately repent as Jesus instructed. Whatever it took, no matter what the cost, those who were false god worshippers should stop.

About two thousand years ago, Jesus, then living on earth in human form, spoke to a multitude of people who had gathered to hear Him on a mountainside along the Sea of Galilee.

Today we refer to the words He spoke that day as the “Sermon on the Mount.”

His teaching was simple and easy to understand. He used everyday objects to illustrate His points. Today, however, many think that we need someone who has a Ph.D. to interpret what Jesus said. And unfortunately the basic premise of some of those interpreters is that Jesus couldn’t have meant what He said. We have had a few here with that attitude.

Matthew 5:1-12
“Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.
Blessed are the gentle, for they shall inherit the earth.
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied.
Blessed are the merciful, for they shall receive mercy.
Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.
Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God.
Blessed are those who have been persecuted for the sake of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are you when people insult you and persecute you, and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of Me. Rejoice and be glad, for your reward in heaven is great; for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you”

There are many stories that can be found on the internet and in several books of Muslims that have come to know Jesus. Yes, it has been a life changing experience for them. These individuals have moved away from their false religions and followed after Jesus. I have also seen as well as heard of those from other false religions doing the same. If these individuals truly believe in Jesus and have repented and turned to Christ alone then yes they will give up those false religions.

Thaks, Pastor , you have answered my question. I think I was confused more by the way the author expressed himself than by his point. It was just that it sounded as though he meant that the Muslim and the Shinto priest could continue in those faiths while at the same time calling on, and being saved by, Jesus. I wanted to clear up that point because I want to lend the book to non-Christian friends.

Sister, I am not familiar with that book or it's author. I gave you an answer from the Bible. There are some verses from the Bible that I would like to point out to you on this subject. They are some wonderful verses and speak some wonderful truths. They are ones that I give to non-Christians.

Rom 1:16  For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.
Rom 1:17  For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith.

Salvation, salvation from death under the law by God's perfect grace.

Rom 3:10  As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one:
Rom 3:11  There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God.
Rom 3:12  They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no, not one.

Rom 3:23  For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;

Rom 5:12  Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:

Rom 6:23  For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Rom 1:18  For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness;

Rom 3:20  Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin.

Rom 4:24  But for us also, to whom it shall be imputed, if we believe on him that raised up Jesus our Lord from the dead;

Rom 5:1  Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:

Rom 10:10  For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

Rom 10:13  For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

"knowing Jesus" means nothing.... "trusting and putting your Faith in Jesus" IS EVERYTHING!!!
