The word earthquake is in two of those books but it is pretty well hidden. The verse you gave though does not talk about dividing of the land. That is the dividing of the water that is on or in the earth from the water above the earth.

I may have the other one:

Numbers 16:30-32  But if the LORD make a new thing, and the earth open her mouth, and swallow them up, with all that appertain unto them, and they go down quick into the pit; then ye shall understand that these men have provoked the LORD. And it came to pass, as he had made an end of speaking all these words, that the ground cleaved asunder that was under them: And the earth opened her mouth, and swallowed them up, and their houses, and all the men that appertained unto Korah, and all their goods.

In my Bibles (Amplified Bible, & KJV) that is the only one thats comes close. The others talk about dividing the land for the tribes, but doesn't say how the land was divided.

That was a very good try, Eva. Since this is an especially hard one I'll give a few additional hints.

A persons name that is given means earthquake.

The key words are "earth" and "divided".

How about...

Genesis 10:25  And unto Eber were born two sons: the name of one was Peleg; for in his days was the earth divided; and his brother's name was Joktan.

That and:

1Ch 1:19  And unto Eber were born two sons: the name of the one was Peleg; because in his days the earth was divided: and his brother's name was Joktan.

These verses do cause some confusion and differences of opinion amongst Biblical scholars. Some think that it means just a division of the continents and others think that it means a division of the tribes. Much of this confusion comes from the translation of the word Peleg in some Bible versions to earthquake and in others to the word division. The word Peleg means earthquake and is also used to mean a rill (that is, small channel of water, as in irrigation): - river, stream. Those that translate Peleg to mean division do so just because it "sounds similar" to the Hebrew word for divided, pâlag, when they are two different words with totally different meanings.

Another part that causes confusion is the fact that the Tower of Babel takes place in Genesis 11, the dividing of the people into nations which also takes place during the life time of Peleg. In the story of Babel we not only see that the Lord confounded the language of the people but that He also scattered them across the face of the earth. He put division between them both of language and geographically.

1Kings 18:4  For it was so, when Jezebel cut off the prophets of the LORD... Hope this mean she had them put to death?

GrammyLuv and PR, you are both so knowledgeable about God's Word.  You both offer challenging questions, which cause me to seek out the correct answer.

Many Thanks, as we know God's Word never comes back void, even when we are having fun playing Bible Trivia.

God Bless you both.

OOPS! Forgot 1Kings 18:13  Was it not told my lord what I did when Jezebel slew the prophets of the LORD, how I hid a hundred men of the LORD's prophets by fifty in a cave, and fed them with bread and water?

Speaking on Jezebel, did you hear that archaeologists have uncovered a seal that belonged to Jezebel. Just another one of many things that corroborate the Bible.

A few more questions on Jezebel.

How did she die and who predicted this manner of death?

Where do we see mention of Jezebel besides in 2 Kings?

She died by a type of stoning:

2 Kings 9:33  And he said, Throw her down. So they threw her down: and some of her blood was sprinkled on the wall, and on the horses: and he trod her under foot.

Elijah predicted her death:

1 Kings 21:23  And of Jezebel also spoke the LORD, saying, The dogs shall eat Jezebel by the wall of Jezreel.

She is also mentioned in Revelations:

Revelations 2:20  Notwithstanding I have a few things against thee, because thou sufferest that woman Jezebel, which calleth herself a prophetess, to teach and to seduce my servants to commit fornication, and to eat things sacrificed unto idols.

Thanks for the challenge.  I just love these.
