Mugger Beating 85-Year-Old Woman in Elevator
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Has anyone else noticed that alot of these big, bad, cowardly, thugs are targeting the elderly?? To bad she wasn't one of them pistol packing grannies. Grin  He evidently hasn't run across someone capable of turning the tables on him. I know here in Arizona, one did the other day and made the thug call 911. She held him at pistol point, till the cops arrived. Grin Grin
YES - some criminals these days are complete COWARDS. We've had quite a few cases over the last few years where the elderly victim did turn the criminal into a victim instead. Two from our city stand out in my mind. One was a 1st degree burglar breaking in on an elderly woman through her kitchen window. YES - he knew she was there. She was up in her 80's, calmly shot him twice, watched him leave from the same window, called 911, and calmly waited for police on the front porch with her rifle. She only had one question for the police when they got there, "Did I get him?" YES, she got him with both shots, and he was found a short distance away hollering for medical attention. The second one had like circumstances, but the elderly woman only had a baseball bat. He came through the front door, and she was still beating him with that bat when the police arrived. Both of the suspects lived, but I would imagine they might choose a different line of work.   Grin
On the other side of the coin, most elderly victims don't win and are scarred for the rest of their life in many ways. At the very least, they never feel safe again. Some of the crimes are also very violent, and the elderly victim must have constant care from then on. Depending on the crime, it's almost impossible to imagine how horrible it is for some of the elderly victims. Their lives are literally turned inside-out, and their remaining days are in horror. For these reasons and others, able-bodied people should watch out for their elderly neighbors and do their part in trying to keep them safe. The same is true for the children. We live in evil days that are getting worse.
Yup, I'm not surprised that the sickening lifestyle of gays is allowed to be 'broadcast from the rooftops' while the message of the Gospel is silenced. If I feel like express myself with a shirt, I will. This is the United States, not China!!
Brother, the day could come soon when things are just as bad here as they are in China. I also plan to fully exercise my rights under the law and the Constitution for the remainder of my days. Those rights will continue to exist until due process and a vote of the people removes them. Otherwise, they're etched in granite. In the meantime, there are many peaceful things we can do to preserve our way of life. We can also use our heads and MAKE the system work the way it was designed to work.
Couple Offered Sex With Girl, 5, for Used Car
Sunday , August 24, 2008
SAN ANTONIO —
A San Antonio couple is accused of trying to trade sex with the woman's 5-year-old daughter for an apartment, a used car and child care for her 10-month old daughter.
Jennifer Richards, 25, and her married boyfriend, Sean Michael Block, 40, appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge Nancy Stein Nowak on Friday. Richards is charged with using interstate facilities to transmit information about a minor. Block is charged with distributing child pornography.
Nowak ordered Block held. Richards' detention hearing was delayed until Tuesday, the San Antonio Express-News reported Sunday.
According to an affidavit unsealed last Tuesday, the investigation began when an informant told the FBI about a text message allegedly sent by Block reading: "Nice piece 5 yrs old belongs to my gf and she wants to sell it."
Richards and Block crafted a deal that, in addition to the apartment and used car, included child care for Richards' 10-month-old daughter, whose sexual service the couple intended to sell later, Rex Miller, the FBI's lead agent on the case, testified.
The couple had also hoped to blackmail the informant, Miller said.
Richards "was of the belief that these sexual interactions would be a positive experience for (her daughter) and that Richards would receive sexual gratification" from watching, according to the affidavit.
Authorities said both children are no longer in Richards' custody and that neither child was sold for sex.
After reviewing computers the couple used and listening to taped conversations, Miller determined Block and Richards were making further plans to abduct, rape and "carve up" a teenage runaway.
Block allegedly sent an e-mail with a link to a Russian child pornography site, according to the affidavit.
Ronald Guyer, Block's lawyer, acknowledged the severity of the charges. But Guyer told the judge that there was no evidence that the behavior progressed beyond Block's fantasy.
"There has been no action on his part," Guyer told Nowak.
Richard's attorney did not immediately return a call or e-mail left Sunday by The Associated Press seeking comment.
The couple worked at the Cheesecake Factory at North Star Mall, where he was a bartender and she was a waitress.
Court records show that Block's now-estranged wife Sarah Block filed for a protective order earlier this week on behalf of the couple's 14-month-old child. Her lawyer said she filed for divorce Friday.
A New Moral Code For The United States
Barna Update
American society has become more intrigued by moral issues in recent years, as evidenced by the fact that 55% of adults discuss moral issues with others during a typical week. But a nationwide survey by The Barna Group indicates that Americans have also redefined what it means to do the right thing in their own lives.
Researchers asked adults which, if any, of eight behaviors with moral overtones they had engaged in during the past week. The behaviors included exposure to pornography, using profanity in public, gambling, gossiping, engaging in gotcha146 with someone to whom they were not married, retaliating against someone, getting drunk, and lying. A majority of adults had engaged in at least one of those eight behaviors during the past week.
Cussing is Common
The most common of the eight behaviors evaluated was using profanity in public. Nearly three out of every ten adults (28%) admitted to using such language. Two out of every ten adults (20%) had gambled in the past week (including the purchase of a lottery ticket) and almost as many (19%) admitted to intentional exposure to pornographic images. Slightly more than one out of every ten adults had gossiped (12%), gotten drunk (12%), or lied (11%).
The least common of the activities tested were having gotcha146 with someone to whom the respondent was not married (9%) and 8% said they had engaged in some form of retaliation during the prior seven days.
The survey showed that admission of adultery was far less common than was admission of sex among unmarried adults. Just 1% of married adults said they had sex with someone other than their spouse during the past week. In contrast, 21% of single adults indicated they had sex with someone during the prior week.
Young Adults Ignore Traditional Morality
One of the most stunning outcomes from the Barna survey was the moral pattern among adults under 25. The younger generation was more than twice as likely as all other adults to engage in behaviors considered morally inappropriate by traditional standards. Their choices made even the Baby Boomers - never regarded as a paragon of traditional morality - look like moral pillars in comparison.
For instance, two-thirds of the under-25 segment (64%) had used profanity in public, compared to just one out of five Boomers (19%). The younger group - known as Mosaics - was nine times more likely than were Boomers to have engaged in sex outside of marriage (38% vs. 4%), six times more likely to have lied (37% vs. 6%), almost three times more likely to have gotten drunk (25% vs. 9%) and to have gossiped (26% vs. 10%), and twice as likely as Boomers to have observed pornography (33% vs. 16%) and to have engaged in acts of retaliation (12% vs. 5%).
Liberals Differ from Conservatives
On average, adults who describe themselves as "mostly liberal" on sociopolitical issues were twice as likely as those who describe themselves as "mostly conservative" to participate in activities that conflict with traditional moral perspectives. In particular, liberals were five times more likely to participate in unmarried sex (20% vs. 4%), more than three times as likely to view pornography (30% vs. 8%), more than twice as likely to lie (21% vs. Cool and to get drunk (17% vs. 7%), and twice as likely to engage in retaliation (13% vs. 6%) and gossip (17% vs. 9%).
Men Behave Differently Than Women
Men were significantly more likely than women to engage in six of the seven behaviors evaluated. The biggest gaps between the genders related to getting drunk (22% of men had done so in the past week, compared to 3% of women), use of profanity in public (33% vs. 24%), and gambling (23% vs. 15%). Men were also twice as likely to have had gotcha146 in the past week with someone to whom they were not married (13% vs. 6%).
The only behavior more common among women was gossip. However, the margin of difference was not statistically significant.
The Influence of Faith on Morality
Examining people’s faith perspectives revealed that evangelicals were the group most likely to follow traditional morality while atheists and agnostics were the faith segment most likely to reject those ways.
Among evangelicals, profanity (16%) and pornography (12%) were the most common transgressions. Fewer than 5% of evangelicals had engaged in gossip (4%), inappropriate sex (3%), gambling (2%), lying (1%) or drunkenness (less than one-half of one percent).
In contrast, among skeptics (atheists and agnostics) participation in the eight behaviors ranged from a low of 11% (retaliating) up to a high of 60% (using profanity). While evangelicals averaged 6% participation in each of the eight behaviors mentioned, skeptics averaged five times that level (29%). Other common acts among skeptics included exposure to pornography (50%), gossip (34%) and drunkenness (33%).
People associated with faiths other than Christianity were twice as likely as evangelicals to engage in the behaviors explored. They were most likely to use profanity (33%), view pornography (32%) and lie (18%).
Within the Christian community, there were few differences between Protestants and Catholics in relation to the moral behaviors tested. Catholics were somewhat more likely to gamble (25% vs. 18%) and to get drunk (16% vs. 7%).
A New Moral Code
According to George Barna, who directed the survey, the results reflect a significant shift in American life.
"We are witnessing the development and acceptance of a new moral code in America," said the researcher and author, who has been surveying national trends in faith and morality for more than a quarter-century. "Mosaics have had little exposure to traditional moral teaching and limited accountability for such behavior. The moral code began to disintegrate when the generation before them - the Baby Busters - pushed the limits that had been challenged by their parents - the Baby Boomers. The result is that without much fanfare or visible leadership, the U.S. has created a moral system based on convenience, feelings, and selfishness.
"The consistent deterioration of the Bible as the source of moral truth has led to a nation where people have become independent judges of right and wrong, basing their choices on feelings and circumstances. It is not likely that America will return to a more traditional moral code until the nation experiences significant pain from its moral choices."
I must add that the decline is rapid and appears to be like a runaway train going downhill as we speak. We can look at numbers of all kinds and see that the devil is now winning in many Christian families. In fact, it's many times difficult to tell the difference between a lost person and many self-proclaimed Christians today. The big question is, "Are they really Christians, or are they just paying lip service?" Only GOD knows. Regardless, they are a horrible testimony for CHRIST. They are also quickly viewed as hypocrites and make a good excuse for rejecting CHRIST as LORD and SAVIOUR. It's all very sad and probably a sign of the times. False and cold or luke-warm Christians add to the growing confusion in this evil and dying world. False religions, false cults, and false prophets are easier to believe, and it really doesn't take much to deceive people in the midst of such CONFUSION!
NOW more than even, real Christians need to rededicate their lives to GOD. They can and should be of use in these possible End Days of the Age of Grace. They could be helping their families and friends at a time when the world is still in desperate need of THE GOSPEL OF THE GRACE OF GOD. Believe it or not, the time does grow shorter, and the time to accept CHRIST will run out. The time runs out for people every day in many unexpected ways. Maybe they were thinking about accepting CHRIST, but they had a heart attack or a car accident today. IT'S TOO LATE NOW! GOD won't accept any excuses - JESUS CHRIST IS EITHER YOUR LORD AND SAVIOUR, OR HE ISN'T! The difference is where and how you will spend Eternity.
GOOD NEWS!
1:  Romans 3:10 NASB  as it is written, "THERE IS NONE RIGHTEOUS, NOT EVEN ONE; THERE IS NONE WHO UNDERSTANDS, THERE IS NONE WHO SEEKS FOR GOD; ALL HAVE TURNED ASIDE, TOGETHER THEY HAVE BECOME USELESS; THERE IS NONE WHO DOES GOOD, THERE IS NOT EVEN ONE."
2:  Romans 3:23  NASB  for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,
3:  Romans 5:12  NASB  Therefore, just as through one man sin entered into the world, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men, because all sinned--
4:  Romans 6:23  NASB  For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
5:  Romans 1:18  NASB  For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men who suppress the truth in unrighteousness,
6:  Romans 3:20  NASB  because by the works of the Law no flesh will be justified in His sight; for through the Law comes the knowledge of sin.
7:  Romans 3:27  NASB  Where then is boasting? It is excluded. By what kind of law? Of works? No, but by a law of faith.
8:  Romans 5:8-9  NASB  But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from the wrath of God through Him.
9:  Romans 2:4  NASB  Or do you think lightly of the riches of His kindness and tolerance and patience, not knowing that the kindness of God leads you to repentance?
10:  Romans 3:22  NASB  even the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ for all those who believe; for there is no distinction;
11:  Romans 3:28  NASB  For we maintain that a man is justified by faith apart from works of the Law.
12:  Romans 10:9  NASB  that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved;
13:  Romans 4:21  NASB  and being fully assured that what God had promised, He was able also to perform.
14:  Romans 4:24 NASB  but for our sake also, to whom it will be credited, as those who believe in Him who raised Jesus our Lord from the dead,
15:  Romans 5:1  NASB  Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ,
16:  Romans 10:10  NASB  for with the heart a person believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation.
17:  Romans 10:13  NASB  for "WHOEVER WILL CALL ON THE NAME OF THE LORD WILL BE SAVED."
Thanks be unto GOD for HIS unspeakable GIFT!, JESUS CHRIST, our Lord and Saviour forever!
Italy horrified by 'Clockwork Orange' assault on monks
August 28, 2008
Richard Owen in Rome
Italians have been left shocked by a ferocious assault on Franciscan monks by hooded thugs at a monastery in the foothills of the Alps, which has been compared to incidents seen in the film 'A Clockwork Orange'.
Father Sergio Baldin, 48, the guardian of the San Colombano Belmonte monastery near Turin, and three elderly monks from the Franciscan order of Friars Minor, were having their evening meal when they were attacked by three hooded men who gagged and bound them before punching, kicking and beating them with clubs.
Father Baldin suffered severe head injuries but also has "serious respiratory problems" because he choked on his food while being assaulted, doctors say. He has had brain surgery and was in a coma.
Father Salvatore Magliano, 86, Father Emanuele Battagliotti, 81, and Father Martino Gurini, 76 suffered less serious injuries, but were still being treated in hospital today.
Speaking from his hospital bed, Father Battagliotti said the monks had been eating "a dish of spinach" when they heard noises outside.
"I got up to have a look, but the moment I got to the door I was attacked - suddenly, immediately. I was struck on the head with a blow which made me totter," he said.
"Father Sergio (Baldin) came to my aid. He put himself in front of me to try and defend me, but he too was knocked down without mercy. They hit him until he stopped crying out. Then they beat Father Salvatore and Father Martin as well. It was terrible."
Cardinal Severino Poletto, the Archbishop of Turin, who visited the victims in hospital, said the attack was "beyond comprehension". The only possible explanation was that the assailants had been "either drugged or possessed, or both", he said.
Police said the motive appeared to robbery, although the monks only had "small amounts of money". A spokesman said: "Presumably the attackers thought they would find riches at the monastery."
Italian media compared the attack to A Clockwork Orange, Anthony Burgess's story of violent young thugs, filmed in 1971 by Stanley Kubrick.
Father Gabriele Trivellin, provincial head of the Friars Minor, said the assault amounted to "mindless, savage and gratuitous violence". He said the hooded men had carried on beating the monks even though they offered no resistance.
Colonel Antonio De Vita, head of the Carabinieri in the province of Turin, said a manhunt was under way for the perpetrators, with road blocks set up in the area of the monastery.
Defending Islam, hacker defaces thousands of Dutch websites
by Andreas Udo de Haes
August 28, 2008, 09:54 AM —  WebWereld Netherlands —
A 'hacktivist' has hijacked numerous Dutch sites in retaliation for the anti-Islamic short film "Fitna" which was made and released earlier this year by the Dutch right-wing politician Geert Wilders.
Over the last six weeks an activist hacker by the name of 'nEt^DeViL' has hacked many Dutch Web sites and posted ideological statements on their home pages. Such an attack is known as a website defacement.
The hacked sites feature an embedded YouTube video dubbed "Anti-Fitna", which the hacker states is "[a] Response to the Fitna Movie by 'Geert Wilders' Cow !" "This hax0ring is to defend ISLAM - The Religion of [ Abraham, Moses, Jesus & Muhammad ( Peace Be Upon Them All ) ] that Insulted by a Cow ! from Netherlands !"
Zone-H.org, a website that tracks website defacement attacks worldwide, has documented thousands of compromised websites over the last months. Zone-H reports that 'nEt^DeViL' has hacked 18,157 websites as of Thursday, August 28.
From July 15 on, the hacker specifically targeted sites in The Netherlands, the home country of politician Geert Wilders. A number have since been restored, but numerous others still feature the forcefully injected ideological messages.
Arnout Veenman of the Dutch hosting providers association ISPConnect, speculates that the hacker exploited a recently published vulnerability in the Joomla content management system (cms). On August 14 the Joomla.org website was defaced after it failed to properly install a security patch. "A lot of the compromised Web sites run on Joomla, so that is a likely attack vector", Veenman told Webwereld, and IDG affiliate. "Web site owners should urgently update their CMS system."
Geert Wilders, leader of the Dutch political party PVV an member of parliament, caused international uproar last March when he posted a video montage criticizing Islam. The video was posted on LiveLeak.com and denounced allegedly violent and warmongering passages in the Koran. The video led to political outrage and street protests in the Middle East.
The controversy surrounding the film is reminiscent of the uproar over cartoons featuring the Prophet Mohammed with a bomb in his turban in a Danish newspaper in 2006. This event also triggered a mass defacement attack on Danish Web sites. At that time, several hundred sites were compromised.
Do they truly expect non-muslims people to take these histrionics seriously?? Their kindergarten temper tantrums would be funny if they didn't lead to such horrific endings. Maybe it would help if some of what they said made an ounce of sense!!
After 1,500 years, pagans plan Acropolis prayer
By NICHOLAS PAPHITIS, Associated Press Writer Thu Aug 28, 3:18 PM ET
ATHENS, Greece - A small group of pagans pledged Thursday to hold a protest prayer among the ruined Acropolis temples, more than 1,500 years after Christians stamped out worship of the ancient Greek gods.
Group spokeswoman Doretta Peppa said the worshippers would pray Sunday to Athena — goddess of wisdom and patron of ancient Athens — to protect the 2,500-year-old site. Peppa said followers of the old religion object to the removal last year of hundreds of sculptural masterpieces from a tiny museum on the Acropolis to a large new building under the citadel.
In a statement, her group, Ellinais, described the landmark glass and concrete structure as "an incredible architectural monstrosity that insults (Greece's) cultural heritage."
The $190 million building is where Greece hopes one day to display the Elgin Marbles beside the other Parthenon sculptures. Greek officials have said it will open next month, displaying some 4,000 artifacts. The Elgin Marbles were removed from the Parthenon temple by Scottish diplomat Lord Elgin in the 19th century, when Greece was still an unwilling part of the Ottoman empire. The British Museum has repeatedly rejected Greek calls for their return.
Peppa told The Associated Press she would prefer the Acropolis sculptures to have stayed at the ancient temples — from where they were removed by Greece over the past 30 years to stop erosion from Athens' polluted air.
"But even if we accept a new museum was needed ... it should be in a style close to that of the ancient buildings," she said. "It's not a museum of modern art."
Peppa's Athens-based group, Ellinais, is campaigning to revive ancient religion and has defied Culture Ministry bans to hold prayers at several ancient temples.
She said she would not seek state permission for the ceremony, to be held near the ancient Parthenon temple, built between 447-432 B.C. in honor of Athena.
"We will just sing three hymns. It won't be a big ceremony," Peppa said. "I don't know how many of us will be there. People are afraid. The fact is that we are subject to religious persecution."
Christianity took hold in Greece in the 4th century. Roman Emperor Theodosius wiped out the last vestige of the Olympian gods when he abolished the Olympic Games in 394 A.D. The Parthenon was converted into a Christian church in the 5th century A.D.
Designed by U.S.-based architect Bernard Tschumi in collaboration with Greece's Michalis Photiadis, the new Acropolis museum has been criticized for its bulk and modern style.
Architects and conservationists have denounced government plans to enhance its view of the Acropolis by demolishing two elegant, early 20th-century houses — one of which belongs to Oscar-winning composer Vangelis Papathanassiou.
Brother Bob,
I'm sad to say that it appears many people are more determined than ever to disrespect, disobey, and reject CHRIST. We can keep praying for them and keep trying, but it appears their hearts are hardened like stone. However, we also know that GOD can do whatever HE pleases in Heaven and on earth.
Love In Christ,
Tom
'RNC Welcoming Committee' weapons stash meant to disrupt GOP in Twin Cities
Posted: August 30, 2008
6:30 pm Eastern
By Drew Zahn
© 2008 WorldNetDaily
Police in Minnesota raided a building in St. Paul and several homes in Minneapolis last night, confiscating materials believed to be stockpiled for protests, vandalism and riots by an anarchist group calling themselves the RNC Welcoming Committee.
Five people were arrested and more than 100 handcuffed, questioned and released when a Ramsey County police force – assisted by the FBI, Hennepin County, and Minneapolis law enforcement – executed a search warrant against a group considered a threat to launch violent protests during this week's Republican National Convention.
Ramsey County Sherriff Bob Fletcher read from a statement this morning, describing the RNC Welcoming Committee as "a criminal enterprise made up of 35 self-described anarchists who are intent on committing criminal acts before and during the Republican National Convention.
"These acts include tactics to blockade and disable delegate buses, breaching venue security and injuring police officers," Fletcher said.
Fletcher's statement also included a list of items found in the searches, including PVC pipe, chicken wire and duct tape – believed by police to be intended for locking protesters together in human barricades called "sleeping dragons" – five-gallon buckets of urine, throwing knives, flammable liquids, homemade caltrops (devices used to puncture tires, presumably bus tires), bolt cutters, sledgehammers, protective padding, and plastic buckets cut into shields.
A video claiming to advertise for the RNC Welcoming Committee's upcoming protests was posted on YouTube, showing a masked female running through streets to the lyrics, "One way or another, I'm gonna find ya, I'm gonna getcha," and distributing riot gear and homemade bombs from materials such as those found in last night's raids. The group did not respond to WND's request that it confirm authorship of the video, though the group's name and website are featured prominently throughout.
Both the video page and the group's website link to another group's stated plan for disrupting the RNC, which includes establishing blockades around St. Paul's Excel Center (where the convention is to take place), immobilizing delegates' buses and blocking the bridges that connect Minneapolis to St. Paul.
"Those plugging into this strategy," the plan states, "will be free to shape their actions as they see fit, using the tactics they consider appropriate."
The RNC Welcoming Committee released a statement late Friday, criticizing the police action.
"The police may claim that the raid was executed according to protocol – however, the violence inherent in this action may only be a hint of the violence to be expected on Monday and beyond, and is only a hint at the violence perpetrated daily by the police," the group said.
RNC Welcoming Committee member Tony Jones read from a statement calling the raids and effort to "derail RNC protest organizing efforts and to intimidate and terrorize individuals and groups converging on the Twin Cities to exercise what are supposed to be their basic civil rights."
St. Paul City Councilman Dave Thune, whose district includes the building rented by the RNC Welcoming Committee, joined the criticism.
"This is not the way to start things off," Thune told the Minneapolis Star-Tribune. "This is sending the wrong message. Regardless of how you feel about these people … they have a right to be here."
"To me," Thune told the St. Paul Pioneer Press, "this smacks of preemptive strike against free speech."
St. Paul Mayor Christopher Coleman, however, defended the motivation behind the police action.
"We have worked very, very hard to make sure we've protected people's right to exercise free speech," Coleman told the Pioneer Press. "To pick up a protest sign, that's fine. If you're here to pick up a brick or some other instrument, there's a problem."
The Pioneer Press reports that the five people being held in jail are under arrest on suspicion of conspiracy to riot, conspiracy to commit civil disorder and conspiracy to damage property and that the St. Paul building that the RNC Welcoming Committee was leasing, found following the raid to be in violation of fire code, has since been turned back over to the property owner.
Michael Moore: Hurricane Coming During GOP Convention 'Proof There Is a God in Heaven'
Controversial filmmaker admits he's delighted to see a natural disaster potentially interfere with the Republican event.
Sometime you really have wonder at what cost some are willing to see their political ideology advanced.
To liberal documentary filmmaker Michael Moore, the bounds are seemingly endless. Moore has made a recent career out of attacking President George W. Bush, bashing conservatives and criticizing business. His latest outrage occurred on MSNBC’s August 29 “Countdown with Keith Olbermann” and when he commented about the coincidental timing of an unfortunate disaster – the potential for Hurricane Gustav to make landfall at the beginning of the Republican National Convention in St. Paul, Minn.
“I was just thinking, this Gustav is proof that there is a God in heaven,” Moore said, laughing. “To have it planned at the same time – that it would actually be on its way to New Orleans for day one of the Republican Convention, up in the Twin Cities – at the top of the Mississippi River.”
After that comment, Moore backed off a bit and did say he hoped nobody got hurt and he hoped everybody is taking cover. However, he failed to make note of the $43.625 billion in damage the last hurricane to strike New Orleans caused – Hurricane Katrina in 2005 – and the billions of dollars the storm cost taxpayers.
Moore also took the opportunity to take a dig at President George W. Bush and the presumptive Republican presidential nominee Sen. John McCain.
 “I can’t see what you showed,” Moore said to “Countdown” host Keith Olbermann about a video clip including Bush and Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz. celebrating McCain’s birthday. “I don’t know if you showed the cake there that they had there, three years ago today – with McCain and Bush. When Marie Antoinette – when she said, ‘Let them eat cake,’ I think she was speaking figuratively. They literally were while New Orleans was drowning – eating cake. So, it’s, um, I don’t know – let’s hope things get better.”
Olbermann, whose opinions tend to fall on the same far left end of the ideological spectrum as Moore, said it was even weirder than Moore observed. Olbermann said “one of” Focus on the Family preachers connected to Chairman Dr. James Dobson’s was allegedly calling for everyone to pray for rain during Sen. Barack Obama’s Democratic convention speech.
Moore told Olbermann he feared McCain would continue the wars that we are in and would start a new one with Iran. He defended Iran’s aggressive tactic with nuclear weapons by suggesting that if Iran invaded Mexico and Canada, as we had with Iraq and Afghanistan, even he and Olbermann would “build whatever we could do defend ourselves.”
Both Olbermann and Moore were full of praise for Obama’s speech and Moore chalked McCain’s selection of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin to cynicism on part of the Republican Party.
Moore has been a crusader for socialized health care in the United States, especially with his 2007 documentary “SiCKO.” Moore depicted the health care systems used in Canada, France, the United Kingdom and the communist nation of Cuba as what the United States should have – an expensive taxpayer-funded health care system.
Michael Moore has made so much money from those idiotic movies. But, I'm praying that he actually comes to know Jesus before it's to late.
What is sad, Michael Moore is he is excited about a natural disaster hurting a political party's convention and could care less about the people who could be killed or hurt by this storm. Michael Moore is a sad, pathetic, arrogant, self-centered, excuse for a human being!! He is so blinded by hatred and anger he is willing to see his fellow citizens hurt just to make a political statement.  Cry
I believe his reference to God is an empty word......... Simply the outflow of the septic water from the well of his blacken heart.
Gustav could just as easily mean that there is a Satan on this earth, who doesn't want the convention to happen.
Though, Michael Moore's statements aren't much worse than the Christians who said that Hurricane Katrina was God's judgment against those of us who lived in it's path back in 2005. The biggest difference is the Christians are supposed to act like they belong to Christ. I was heartbroken over the ones that seemed to take delight in saying Katrina was Gods judgment on an evil city. If some of you remember, I was there with members of my Church.
California plans to drug depressed patients to death
'Nothing in the bill prohibits this horror'
Just as Democratic presidential nominee Sen. Barack Obama was in Denver preaching to a crowd of thousands of fans about the "change" he wants to see in the United States, his party compatriots in the California Legislature were making a "change," by approving a controversial plan that would allow nurses to assist terminally ill patients with suicide. Angry Angry
"AB 2747 allows a physician assistant or a nurse to opine that a patient is 'terminal,' and then push for unnatural death by 'palliative sedation,'" said Randy Thomasson, chief of the Campaign for Children and Families shortly after the vote.
"Depressed patients who succumb to this pressure will be drugged unconscious and die from dehydration, usually within five to 10 days. Nothing in the bill prohibits this horror," he said.
Forty-two Democrats in California voted in favor of the plan: 30 Republicans and two Democrats opposed the plan.
"AB 2747 pushes suicide through the back door at the hands of non-physicians taking advantage of depressed patients," Thomasson said. His organization has been alerting Californians to raise their concerns about the plan for sudden death with floor alerts, phone calls and e-mails.
"AB 2747 cheapens the value of human life by endorsing suicide as an option. Gov. Schwarzenegger should pledge to veto this very dangerous bill," Thomasson said, describing how the author, Assemblywoman Pattie Berg of Eureka, "deceptively changed" the bill to appear that "voluntarily stopping of eating and drinking" and "palliative sedation" no longer were on a list of "symptom management" options.
But the final bill "is broad enough to easily include these suicide techniques," Thomasson said.
The specific references to those treatments simply were changed to "other clinical treatments useful when a patient is actively dying."
According to the CCF report, Assemblyman Van Tran of Costa Mesa warned the bill has no protections for patients "who could be mistakenly diagnosed as 'terminally ill' but would have many, many full years of life ahead."
"The bill does not otherwise attempt to expressly define terminal illness that each of these health care professionals would have to diagnose to trigger the offer of counseling end of life options. It is not clear why nurse practitioners and physician assistants could make such a significant diagnosis. It is further not clear from the bill how making such significant diagnoses on a case-by-case basis can be done by such practitioners and assistants based on so-called 'standardized procedures and protocols' not further defined by the bill. The potential effect of AB 2747 is extremely broad and could cause irrevocable harm."
Added Republican Doug La Malfa of Yuba City: "We really go down a slippery slope when we contemplate the ending of life in such a way that it could be coerced. You have people in a very precarious situation, in a very awkward situation, that when thrust upon them with options to end their life, you have people that may feel like they have no use anymore. They feel like they're not of value anymore, and that taking one of these options, they may feel, is the only way out, that they've become a burden to their family or to someone else. I would hate to put people in that kind of position. They're already feeling vulnerable, and now, confronted with ways to end your life – this is a very delicate and, I think, dangerous idea here. You could have people like heirs that are anxious to get the estate started and quietly coercing people into making decisions like this."
"Total sedation (TS) – called by some 'terminal sedation,' 'palliative sedation,' or 'slow euthanasia' – is a protocol recently added to the lexicon of contemporary medical interventions and is a construct actively promulgated by the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization (NHPCO)," wrote Dr. Howard M. Ducharme, past chair of the philosophy department at the University of Akron. "It is defined as 'the application of pharmacotherapy to induce a state of decreased or absent awareness (unconsciousness) in order to relieve the burden of otherwise intractable suffering. However, any quick acceptance of TS would be ill-advised because of the many 'devils in the details.'"
That is MURDER, plain and simple!!
"AB 2747 pushes suicide through the back door at the hands of non-physicians taking advantage of depressed patients,"
I hope these people, and I use that term loosely, know they will have to answer to God, for their actions.
Murder, is still murder, no matter how you try and explain it away!!
I'm GLAD I have nothing to do with Kalifornia any more!!
Pastor uses cancer hoax to hide porn addiction
Churchman inspired hundreds of thousands of people with fight against terminal disease
Michael Guglielmucci
A popular pastor, songwriter and worship leader, whose hit song, "The Healer" – inspired, he said, by his own two-year struggle with aggressive terminal cancer – has confessed he never had the disease, a ruse he created to cover his addiction to pornography.
Michael Guglielmucci, who leads music at Edge Church International near Melbourne, Australia, has gone into hiding after his confession was read from the pulpit by his father, who is founder and head pastor of the church.
"Mike thought he could escape the pain by creating a diversion from his addiction to adult pornography, so he created the cancer scenario," Pastor Danny Guglielmucci said.
"We fully understand the questions, shock, disbelief and even anger you may feel, but Michael is struggling with a different kind of illness and is receiving professional help."
In a television interview, Guglielmucci said he had been "living a lie for a long time.
"I've been hiding who I am for so long. I can honestly say to you that the last two years have been hell for me physically, emotionally, but I never sat down and said ... let's try and fool the world."
While admitting that the disagnosis of terminal cancer was a hoax, Guglielmucci insisted the symptoms of vomiting, pain and hair loss were real – shame over his 16-year obsession with pornography manifesting itself with physical symptoms.
"This is who I am - I'm addicted to the stuff, it consumes my mind," he said.
"I'm sick and this is why I had to come up with some sort of explanation of what was happening in my body. I don't know how you can fake vomiting all over yourself night after night after night, I'm not that good an actor," he said.
But act he did.
Guglielmucci regularly performed "The Healer" wearing oxygen tubes and steadied himself with a cane. His wife, Amanda, 29, quit work to care for him, heating towels in the microwave in the middle of the night to "give him some relief in his back."
"I never questioned it, when you love someone you trust them. I had no reason not to trust him," she told the Sydney Daily Telegraph.
"Perhaps I feel a little bit foolish in this, hindsight's a fabulous thing ... but I'm trying not to beat myself up."
Guglielmucci would have his wife drop him off at the hospital for his medical visits, which she never attended with him. He also created phony doctors who sent e-mails to his family, updating them on his condition.
He spent two years playing Christian rock music to packed audiences, driving his anthem of healing and faith to No. 2 on the Australian Record Industry Association charts when it debuted as part of an album released by Hillsong Church in Sydney.
Police, however, are more interested in the pastor's Facebook page, "Praying Together for Mike Guglielmucci" - now removed - where donations were solicited.
Some donors have voiced their anger.
Alex Saint, 24, a former Edge Church International member, donated a small amount on the website, inspired by Guglielmucci's music, his strength in his disease and the recent loss of his own mother to breast cancer.
"I believed every word he said. I believed he was going through hell," Saint told the Adelaide Advertiser.
"My heart goes out to all the people who have been hurt ... to make all this up is extremely crushing for anyone who has gone through cancer. There's no better script than to be dying of cancer and giving glory to God in a Christian context ... it's the highest form of fraud."
Another donor, a grandmother identified only as Caroline, gave $800 she had saved to take her four-year-old wheelchair-bound grandson on a vacation because she thought more good would come from gifting the money.
"I feel like a real idiot," she said. "I saw Michael talk and sing and he's so very charismatic. ... but what a con."
Pastor Danny Guglielmucci has assured church members restitution will gladly be made "if people want their money back."
Guglielmucci's attorney told The Advertiser last week his client had no plans to report to police despite church officials advising him to reveal details of any cash raised.
Considering the impact of Guglielmucci's public ministry, it's no surprise the news of his fall has generated comment online among fans and foes.
"He will find peace behind bars I think," wrote poster allblackstorm on YouTube.
rastakim16333 was more forbearing, writing, "'Healer' song is God breathed ... I believe that ... and Mike Guglielmucci is one of the millions [of] Christians who are struggling with the same temptation ... I still believe in [Pastor] Mike and love him ... I am praying for him ... God will use this song to heal ... those who are hurting ..."
"Who are we to condemn him? God will forgive him ... Let's pray for his relationship with God instead of shouting stupid things," posted Hansie21, a sentiment echoed by Rev. Andrew Evans, a supporter of Guglielmucci.
"My gut feeling is that people will forgive him," he said.
