Home schooling a viable option; it may be easier than you think, says attorney

An advocate for the removal of children from secular, public schools says parents who truly desire to get their children away from homosexual indoctrination, drugs, violence and other anti-biblical influences should seriously consider home schooling -- because it's much easier to home school than most people think, he counsels.

Bruce Shortt, an attorney who has written volumes on the ills of the public school system, advocates pulling all children out of the secular, government-run schools, and placing them in Christian schools or home-schooling them. According to Shortt, the common objection to home schooling is a fear of not knowing how to teach. He acknowledges home schooling may have been a challenge 20 or 30 years ago -- but argues that is not the case today.

"Today, with all of the curriculum that's been developed, it's really quite easy. Not only is it quite easy, one of the biggest problems I have is selecting what I want to do from the wealth of resources that are available," says Shortt.

According to the Christian attorney, those resources include everything from innovative ways of teaching your child a specific subject, to complete turnkey curricula. "For example, Bob Jones University provides, by satellite feed, classes right into the home. ABeka provides DVDs, with classes your child can watch. Other providers have interactive Internet approaches to education," he explains.

Shortt says one of the goals of home education should be to turn children into independent thinkers, instead of lecturing them. He says many parents would be pleasantly surprised to learn they can give their children a top-notch education at home -- without the negative cultural influences of the public schools.
